Survivor 1970 K5 Blazer 4x4 LS3/6L80E Twin turbo Flex fuel equipped
Body:the body on the truck is 90% ORIGINAL paint and 98% rust free.It has several dents and dings and shows its age accordingly. Most of the trim is dented up as well as are the chrome bumpers. To my knowledge the only body panel that is not original to the truck is the tail gate, but it has been painted and aged to match the truck almost perfectly. interior:Aside from the New Vintage gauge cluster, steering wheel from a 1992 GMC typhoon and a brand new Auto Custom Interiors rubber floor mat, the interior is 100% stock and in very good condition for its age.The passenger front seat has one small pin hole at the very front where you're legs would rest that is virtually un-noticable.The drivers seat as welll and the rear seat and all seat belts are very nice. Chassis:The frame is all original to the truck and 100% rust free. The front and rear differentials are original as well still retains lock out hubs that work perfectly, however, the front diff has been equipped with later model disk brakes, cross over steering and steering stabilizer all from a donor 1978 truck. Both front hubs have all new wheel bearings,seals,u-joints and ball joints. The rear diff retains the stock drum brakes but those too have been completely rebuilt/replaced.Its rolling on 15x10 factory GM rally wheels and bran new Mickey Thompson 31x10.5x15 tires Drive train:Late model engine and trans swap,40k mile LS3,and a 10K mile GM warrantied 6L80E auto transmission. The motor has been treated to a GM ZR1 camshaft, and PRC .675 lift dual spring valve springs,Holley High Ram intake manifold, welded smoothed and painted factory GM valve covers and a coil relocation kit.The radiator has been replaced with a new aluminum unit that supports the dual 4th generation Camaro fan assembly. The engine and trans perform flawlessly as they should and feed into a rebuilt NP208 transfer case which turns brand new front and rear drive shafts Turbo System:Twin Turbo System consists of 2 GM factory 2012 Camaro exhaust manifolds that have been welded and fitted with the correct flanges to bolt 2 GM Grand National turbos, which feed a Precision Turbo front mount air to air inter-cooler which then feed the C6 Z06 90mm throttle body to the intake manifold. All producing a very conservative and reliable 8 PSI of boost The truck is running on a factory 2007 Corvette computer with speed density tuning, and has been wired for a factory appearing and functioning Flex fuel system.Which means that there are absolutely no adjustments or changes needed to pump in either gasoline or E85 directly into the fuel tank. Odds and Ends: the fuel system consists of a 1992 Ford Bronco II gas tank that has been modified with a rear sump to feed the 2 walboro 255 fuel pumps and factory Grand National fuel filters before being wye'd together and feeding a set of Holley billet fuel rails. The motor was mounted using a Dirty Dingo replacement front cross member.while the trans was mounted using a slightly modified factory cross member. The exhaust system is 100% stainless steel dual 2.5" down pipes feeds into an SLP stainless 2 into 1, 3.5" tail pipe that exits on the drivers side and is probably quieter than the stock system this truck came with. The truck was built and tuned by Speed Incorporated out of Schaumburg IL,it made 491 rear wheel horse power on 93 octane and 525 rear wheel horsepower on E85.I bnuilt the truck to do it all, light off roading mostly at the Silver Lake dune are in MI,the occasional drag race but most of all to be a fun daily driver that I can hook my boat to an throw my dirt bikes in and just have fun.The truck is an absolute blast to drive and unless you are at wide open throttle or nearly it drives like a stock vehicle.I would not hesitate for one minute over driving this from coast to coast. I am the 3rd owner it spent all its life on the western sea board and that is the reason there is no rust on it.I spent the better part of last summer trying to find a truck that was a rust free as this one,and the payoff is here.I have quit a bit of original documentation from the previous owners that can trace it back to when it was new,or nearly new. more pics of the engine and entire turbo build can be seen at my photobucket account danimal95 is my account name the Blazer pics are on pages 4-6 recently installed center console and original 4 wheel drive selector lever that are not in the pictures I will not take low ball offers,by no means do I have to sell it an truthfully I'm not even sure I want to. Has less that 500 miles on current engine/transmission combination please fell free to email or call me with concerns, questions or other picture requests,I probably have another 50 pictures if interested please email me Dan 815-719-0756 more pics of the engine and entire turbo build can be seen at my photobucket account danimal95 is my account name the Blazer pics are on pages 4-6 |

Next-gen Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra may use carbon fiber
Thu, Dec 7 2017It's been generally accepted that the next generation of full-size GM trucks will use some sort of strong, lightweight material for the beds while retaining steel for the cab. While aluminum seems like the most obvious choice, according to Automotive News, the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra will incorporate both aluminum and carbon fiber in their beds. The publication cites sources from within GM, though it seems the introduction of this comparatively exotic material mix is still a few years off. While carbon fiber is both stronger and lighter than steel and aluminum, it takes significantly more time and money to produce, essentially relegating the material to small-volume cars. The main benefit for trucks is the resulting reduction in weight to improve fuel economy without sacrificing the tough, rugged capabilities truck buyers expect. The Ford F-150 made the switch to aluminum for the 2015 model year and it's proved highly successful. It seemed like it was only a matter of time before the competition followed suit. Automotive News says that the next-gen trucks will launch with aluminum beds and that it will take a couple of years before we'll see any carbon fiber incorporated into the design. Even then, only look for the composite material on higher-trim models, with a trickle down to lower-spec trucks possible further in the future. In 2011, GM announced it was working with Japan-based Teijin Limited on a carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic. There's a good chance that material's introduction will be on trucks. 24 Hours of Le Mans live update part three
Sun, Jun 19 2016We tasked surfing journalist Rory Parker to watch this year's live stream of the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans. What follows is an experiment to experience the world's greatest endurance race from the perspective of a motorsports novice. Parker lives in Hawaii and has an associates degree in dropping f-bombs. For Part One, click here. Part Two is here. Really hoped I'd be able to grab an hour or two of sleep before the sun rose over Le Mans. Dark dark dark, couldn't figure out what was going on. Commentators struggled at times as well. But I couldn't do it. Endurance racing is just too exciting. Grabs my attention with both fists. Screams, "watch these men DRIVE!" A neighbor invited me over for drinks. Told him, "Can't do it, gotta watch Le Mans!" Maybe not exactly. I'll admit, at times my attention wandered. I did a load of laundry. Ate some snacks. Half listened to the commentary. Threw a hump at my wife. I learned that Patrick Long, driving #88, is big brother to Kevin "Spanky" Long. Spanky's a bit of a legend in the skate world. Always weird how top notch talent can run in families like that. Kind of surprised I've never heard that before. Worked for a skate mag for a years, met Spanky a handful of times. Someone must've told me that he has an older brother who drives race cars. Dash cams at night are scary. High powered headlights in the P1s reach almost 300 meters. Cars outrun that distance easy. Seems like they're just steering into the black and hoping for the best. But that can't be the case. People'd be dropping dead let and right. Very amused by how the guys in GT are like, "Dude, stop flashing your fucking lights before you pass." But the LMP's are all, "Suck a dick! I do what I want." Top three stayed neck and neck nearly all night long. As the sun gets ready to creep back over the horizon the top three are separated by only eleven and a half seconds. Toyota 5 and 6, Porsche 2. Audi 8 is two laps behind Porsche, beleaguered 7 is dealing with constant trouble eleven laps from the front. GTE Pro sees Ferrari 82 in first, Ford 68 and 69 right behind. To win you've gotta drive perfect, build perfect. Fours cars retired so far. I'm beginning to appreciate the endurance aspect a little more fully. Only really considered the drivers at first. The mental and physical stress driving these cars at these speeds at length would inflict. But keeping the damn things running is the real deal. To win you've gotta drive perfect, build perfect.
Top horsepower-per-dollar cars in 2017
Tue, Feb 17 2015Bang for the buck. That quasi-scientific statistic is bandied about by motor heads everywhere from classrooms to barrooms, though the truth of the matter is that it's exceedingly complex to measure. A fair performance-per-dollar index would include something like cross-referencing MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) with point-to-point times on a track or driving route, which is obviously hard to do comprehensively. But, for the sheer joy of talking about cars and playing with a big spreadsheet, there's always the horsepower-per-dollar index, which is more straightforward, albeit hilariously flawed. There are vagaries even with this simple formula, of course: MSRP for vehicles can change at a moment's notice, to say nothing of the bottom-line shifting that happens with local deals or showroom negotiation. For this list we're running with the straight MSRP wherever possible, and as recently reported as we can get it. All the vehicles on this list are 2017 models, and all trims are reported where the lowest price and differing power levels intersect. Some choices were made for personal preference and some for sanity, avoiding things like all 48 trim levels of the Ford Transit, all with the same horsepower). If this list were a simple top ten, or even a top fifty, you'd be bored to tears with all the red, white and blue that is represented. Following perfectly with conventional wisdom, American cars really do lead the world where hp/$ is concerned. So, for the sake of variety (and the sheer joy of seeing a minivan 'win' one round of this thing) I've sorted out some top five and bottom five lists for broad power categories. Let's dive in. Less Than 100 Horsepower Okay, okay, this is hardly a category we'll grant you. But we've often tried to click off all the sub-100-hp cars on sale in the US, and making this list gave us an excuse. It also illustrates that none of these smallish vehicles bring cheap horsepower to the table - for that you'll need a motorcycle. The segment-leading Chevy Spark (above) asks just over $139 for each hp, and that Smart Fortwo Electric Drive has hp on sale for about the same price as its very distant family cousin, the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG (insert your favorite Smart joke here... we know you want to).
