My Dad & I have owned this truck since 2008 and was daily driven till about two years ago when we decided to restore it.  105,000 original miles and never any rust.  Now it just sits and never gets driven, so we've decided to cut our losses and sell it.

We began by ditching the old 305 in favor of a 350, rebuilt by Billy Graham at Performance Machine here in Manhattan, KS.  Fairly modest rebuild, .030 over 10.5:1 Keith Black hypereutectic pistons, 268 duration, .477 lift Comp cam, springs, & lifters, HV oil pump, double roller timing chain, hardened valve seats.  That was all topped off with an Edelbrock 2701 Performer intake and 1405 600 cfm carburetor.  We also added a Tuff Stuff 100 amp chrome alternator with polished billet aluminum bracket, Weiand polished aluminum water pump, polished aluminum fabricated valve covers, and a Lokar dipstick.  An MSD Street Fire distributor with Accel header plugs & wires takes care of the ignition.  Also a new radiator, all belts & hoses, steering box, battery, and titanium-wrapped headers with all new 2-1/4" dual exhaust.  A/C does not work, but all components are there.

The 700R4 trans. was rebuilt before we got it, but was done at 85,000 miles.  I added a Hughes Performance 2400 or 2500 stall converter.

Next came the body, which was done with PPG basecoat/clearcoat.  Both inner fenders were painted & replaced, new left door & fender (they were dented), and tailgate.  All new chrome bumpers with new bolts, new headlights, new headlight bezels, new billet aluminum grille, new tail lights, new front & rear side markers, new wheel well arches & side moldings, new lock cylinders, door pins & bushings, windshield and NOS badges on the rear quarters.  All seals, gaskets, window felts, weatherstrips, etc. were replaced, even for the top, which was removed for painting.  The top was done with some flattener added to the paint for an original look.  The truck was torn down to the shell during the restoration process, so all the door jambs & back sides of panels could be painted.

We have yet to get to the interior; it will need total replacement.  Overall, all the hard work is done on the truck and it looks pretty good.  There are minor details left to be attended to on the exterior & engine, and the interior could be completed a piece at a time if you had to.  It's just almost there, but like I said, this is still a work in progress and has some minor issues that should be addressed.  A plug wire rides awfully close to a header, which I worry about burning, and there was a small antifreeze leak somewhere, but I think that has subsided.  A chrome air cleaner would go a long ways, too.  The remainder of badges would complete the exterior, as well as some touch-up paint.  Keep in mind that since the engine & body restoration almost two years ago, we've only put 303 (yes, 303) miles on this thing (hasn't even had its first oil change yet), so it's still very fresh.  85-90% tread left on 31x10.50 A/T tires.

The Blazer is actually located in Topeka, KS (66614).  Please e-mail, call or text (785  2493282) with any questions.  Thanks, Jason.

GM to add 1,200 workers at 2 Michigan factories

Sat, Feb 29 2020

DETROIT — General Motors is adding 1,200 jobs at two Michigan factories to build midsize SUVs and two new luxury sedans. GM said Friday that its Lansing Delta Township plant will get a third shift and 800 more workers to build the Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave SUVs, which have three rows of seats. The Lansing Grand River plant will get a second shift and 400 more workers to build two new Cadillac sedans, the CT4 and CT5. Employees laid off at other GM factories will fill the new jobs first, then workers will be added, GM spokesman Dan Flores said. The company has not determined yet how many new people will be needed, he said. Both additional shifts will start working sometime between April and June, the company said. Lansing Delta Township now employs about 2,500 salaried and blue-collar workers, while the Grand River plant has 1,400. GM sold more than 147,000 Traverse SUVs in the U.S. last year, a 0.4% increase from 2018. Enclave sales were up 3% to just over 51,000, according to Autodata Corp. Related Video:

NHTSA investigating nearly 750,000 GM models over non-deploying airbags

Thu, Apr 15 2021

Nearly 750,000 vehicles built by Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac are the subject of a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigation due to non-deploying driver-side airbags. While the investigation is ongoing, the agency believes the issue is likely due to rust particles that form on the inflator's connection terminal interface. The list of nameplates included in the investigation includes Chevrolet's Silverado, Tahoe, and Suburban, GMC's Sierra, Yukon, and Yukon XL, plus Cadillac's Escalade, Escalade ESV, CT4, CT5, and XT4. All of the potentially affected vehicles are 2020 or 2021 models, according to a bulletin published on the NHTSA's website. Investigators launched the probe in April 2021 after 15 consumers reported airbag-related issues, including nine who said an airbag malfunction light appeared in the instrument cluster. More alarmingly, the NHTSA is aware of six accidents that caused significant damage to the car's front end yet didn't trigger the driver's airbag. It adds that there are no fatalities linked to the issue, but there are six crashes and eight injuries reportedly blamed on it. No evidence suggests this problem is related to the millions of potentially deadly Takata inflators recalled over the past few years. General Motors is aware of the defect. It sent a technical service bulletin (TSB) to its dealers in March 2021 to address the aforementioned warning light. The note explains the issue is due to "rust particles in the connection terminal interface of the driver's airbag inflator." The company hasn't issued a safety recall yet, however. Whether it will partially depends on the NHTSA's findings. It's currently looking into the scope and the severity of the problem, and it wants to understand its implications on driver safety. Investigators will decide whether General Motors needs to recall the 749,312 cars that are part of the probe when they close their investigation. General Motors has already spent a significant amount of money replacing defective airbag-related parts in its cars. In November 2020, it was ordered by the American government to recall nearly 6 million pickup trucks and SUVs equipped with potentially dangerous Takata airbag inflators. It repeatedly argued that testing proved the inflators were safe, and it petitioned the agency four times starting in 2016 to avoid a recall, which cost an estimated $1.2 billion (about a third of its net income in 2020).

Recharge Wrap-up: Range-extended EV taxis in London, 2016 Chevy Volt interior two years old

Fri, Feb 13 2015

The first Metrocab range-extended EV taxis are operating on the streets of London. The cabs use a 12.2-kWh battery and two 50-kW motors, as well as a 1.0-liter gasoline range extender. Fuel economy is 98 MPGe on the ECE101 cycle, and total driving range is over 348 miles before needing to charge or refuel. Cabbies can expect to save GBP20 to GBP40 (about $30 to $60) per day on average. "The cash savings on fuel are significant, the ride and comfort outstanding, and my first customers are thrilled with the new cab," says the first operator of the new EV taxi, Preston Morris. "With its air suspension providing unrivaled comfort, panoramic glass roof for views of the city and silent powertrain, what's not to like?" Read more in the press release below. Chevrolet has had the interior design of the 2016 Volt finished for two years already, according to GM interior designer John McDougall. Beginning around 2010, GM received sketches from designers worldwide before narrowing it down to a handful of designs. Then the top three choices were molded from clay. The chosen theme was then refined for up to 18 months. "Every little thing you can imagine goes into that," says McDougall. "The glare angle from the windows, the placement of the controls, the placement of the seat. You have to create something that's beautiful and functional." Read more at GM Authority and at Inside EVs. More details have emerged about the Second Life Batteries Alliance. Vattenfall has announced a research project in partnership with BMW and Bosch to use retired EV batteries for stationary, grid-connected energy storage in Hamburg, Germany. Over 100 lithium-ion batteries from BMW i3 and ActiveE vehicles will make up a two-mWh storage unit for grid balancing, enough to power 30 four-person households for a week. The system is "compact enough to fit in a small building," says Bosch. Such storage systems are especially fit for storing and moving alternative forms of energy, which often fluctuate in supply more than electricity from a traditional power plant. Vattenhall will operate the storage unit for 10 years, with Bosch managing the batteries, during which time the three partners hope to learn more about battery applications and their performance over time.
