SELLER REMARKS

The 1957 Chevy is as popular today as ever, and they won't be getting more affordable in the future, so if you've been looking, perhaps this gorgeous blue hardtop will appeal to you. With traditional mods and a great cool look that's a treat for the eyes, this original Fuelie has just the right blend of performance and pedigree to be a winner.

Looking this bright blue hardtop over, it's hard to believe that the paint is 20 years old; it looks closer to two years old! You can scan through our inventory of 1957 Chevys and this blue car stands out simply because it's not red, but to be honest, that's really doing this car a disservice. The bodywork is in good shape and the paint shines up very nicely, erasing the years easily and making for a very attractive car from any angle. The choice of a single color and Bel Air trim makes it look sleek, and the 'Fuel Injection' badges on the front fenders aren't there simply because the builder thought they were pretty (we'll talk more about the engine in a bit). Chrome is always important on a '57 Chevy, and while it was also refinished back in the '90s, it's pretty nice today. A continental kit out back adds a certain upscale flair to the familiar '57 shape and it, too, shows off excellent chrome and brightly polished stainless trim.

Aside from the big wood-rimmed steering wheel, the interior looks quite stock, including the funk and attractive two-tone upholstery. The combination of colors and textures works wonderfully here, offering a wonderful 1950s look that will never go out of fashion. The carpets are in good shape, although they may show some light fading due to age, but nobody will complain. All the factory gauges are functioning and show off crisp markings and clear lenses, and while it's not everyone's cup of tea, that wood-rimmed wheel is attractive on its own. The radio has been removed, but that means it's ready for whatever system you'd like to have and the headliner is in good order. Pull the continental spare out of the way and open the trunk, and you'll find a correctly finished trunk with a reproduction rubber mat and good bodywork.

The 283 cubic inch V8 was originally fuel injected from the factory, and all those parts are included with the car if you'd like to take it back to stock form. But I'm guessing that after you drive this car the way it sits, you'll fall in love and it'll become a lot less important. Right now, there's an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, a solid lifter camshaft, and finned aluminum valve covers to give it a bit more oomph off the line and a period high performance look. Chevy Orange on the block stands out against the black engine bay and still looks great after all these years. You'll also find a correct generator with built-in power steering pump, a very welcome option on a '57 like this. The 2-speed PowerGlide automatic transmission shifts properly thanks to a rebuild in May 2014 and there's a new fuel pump and fresh battery, both of which were installed in April 2014. Fresh 215/70/14 blackwall radials were installed at the same time, wrapping around period Boyd Coddington wheels that suit this blue Chevy just fine.

A really nice older restoration, this is a wonderful driver-grade Bel Air that runs superbly and looks awesome. Call today!

The Army goes off-roading with a hydrogen Chevy Colorado

Sun, Nov 22 2015

The Chevrolet Colorado is joining the service. General Motors is working with the US Army Tank Automotive Research, Development & Engineering Center (TARDEC) to build a Colorado powered by a commercial hydrogen fuel cell stack, and the Army will use it in "extremes of daily military use for 12 months." TARDEC is the department that tests "advanced military automotive technology" and integrates them into ground systems. The aim is to see how well the benefits of a fuel cell vehicle can be adapted to the battlefield; hydrogen-powered vehicles are quiet, torquey, produce water, and can be used to provide electricity in the field. GM says the design sketch above "foreshadows" the Colorado that will go to boot camp and beyond, making it clear that this won't be the average midsize pickup. The press release below has more. Related Video: GM and U.S. Army to Demonstrate Extreme Off-Road Hydrogen Fuel Cell Chevrolet Colorado Agreement focused on proving unique utility and viability of fuel cell propulsion WARREN, Mich. 2015-11-19 – General Motors and the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development & Engineering Center (TARDEC) are modifying a Chevrolet Colorado midsize pickup truck to run on a commercial hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system and will expose the truck to the extremes of daily military use for 12 months. "Hydrogen fuel cell technology is important to GM's advanced propulsion portfolio, and this enables us to put our technology to the test in a vehicle that will face punishing military duty cycles," said Charlie Freese, executive director of GM's Global Fuel Cell Engineering activities. Fuel cell propulsion has very high low-end torque capability useful in off-road environments. It also offers exportable electric power and quiet operation, attractive characteristics to both commercial and military use. "The potential capabilities hydrogen fuel cell vehicles can bring to the Warfighter are extraordinary, and our engineers and scientists are excited about the opportunity to exercise the limits of this demonstrator," said TARDEC Director Paul Rogers. "FCVs are very quiet vehicles, which scouts, special operators and other specialties place a premium," he said. "What's more, fuel cells generate water as a by-product, something extremely valuable in austere environments." GM and TARDEC have fuel cell development and research facilities located 20 minutes apart in Pontiac and Warren, Mich.

GM recalls Colorado, Canyon, and Malibu for airbag problem

Wed, Mar 9 2016

The Basics: General Motors will recall and issue a stop sale on 1,740 total examples of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, Malibu, and GMC Canyon. This includes 1,579 units in the US and 161 in Canada. The Problem: The second stage of the driver front airbag inflator might not be present. If this happens, the airbag won't fill as quickly as it should in a high-speed crash, which could increase the risk of injury, according to Reuters. This is not related in any way to Takata's inflator problems, and these parts come from a different supplier. Injuries/Deaths: None reported. The Fix: GM will replace the vehicles' airbag assemblies. If You Own One: GM spokesperson Tom Wilkinson told Autoblog he wasn't specifically sure when recall repairs would begin but said it would be "shortly." He expects the fixes to happen "quickly" because of the small number of affected vehicles, and many of them are either in transport or already in dealer stock. More Information: GM recalled the 2015 Canyon and Colorado in 2014 for a completely separate airbag issue. In that case, a manufacturing error improperly wired the connectors. Related Video: GM Statement GM is recalling 1,579 MY 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Malibu vehicles in the United States and 161 in Canada to replace driver-side front airbags. The second stage of the airbag may not deploy properly in certain high-speed crashes. During a routine quality inspection, it was determined that a component required for a second-stage/high-output deployment was not loaded during the inflator build. Dealers will replace the driver-side front airbag assembly. There have been no reports of crashes or injuries related to this issue. This issue is unrelated to the ongoing Takata recalls.
