1957 Chevy Bel Air 2 door post

The pictures say it all. This is a Northwest car that was sitting in dry storage for over 20 years.

Body and Chassis

Body is straight as an arrow. It has a fresh coat of black epoxy primer to prevent rust. The pictures of it in red coming out of the trailer were taken just last month, and you can see how straight it was then. The frame still looks solid, and the normal trouble spots were either addressed years ago or they are just remarkably well-preserved. I have most of the chrome, most of which is in really good condition. There are some minor rust issues near the door sills/pans (which look as if they have been repaired at some point), but in general, this is a super solid car that will make for a for a quick restoration.  I have all the glass for the car except the windshield and driver's glass.  That includes three vent windows (pics).  The glass is in good condition as well as most of the chrome trim.

 Engine and Transmission

It's exactly as it is in the pics - painted and super clean. It still has the dust from being in storage for all those years. Previous owner pulled this running, warmed-over 327 with a 4 speed tranny out of a 1966 Impala and dropped it in here (with new motor mounts). This 327 has an Edelbrock 4v intake and Edelbrock carb and already looks like its ready to show.. Check out the camel hump heads with matching paint in the finned aluminum valve covers. It still turns freely and has the drive shaft already installed. Save the money. If I put a few hours into this and had a runner/driver, the reserve price would be higher.

Interior

Not much to say here. If you're looking for old school original, this is it. Front seat has upholstery. The rear seat bottom is rough and it has the rear back frame.

Why buy it?

I NEED room in my shop and something has to go. This is the easiest, most complete project I have, so here you go. It's an easy build with a great head start. I was looking forward to building this tri-five. It's so complete, you should be driving it THIS summer. If you've always wanted that 57 Belair as your dream car, but didn't want to mess with exterior body work or rebuilding an engine/transmission, this is the car for you.

Terms and Conditions. Please note that all sales are binding and final. Cars are sold "as-is, where-is" with no warranty expressed or implied. Please carefully read the terms & conditions of the sale before bidding. Winning this auction does not entitle you to come inspect the car and decide if you want to buy it, but obligates you to complete the purchase! If you want to arrange for an inspection during the auction, I can recommend local professionals who will do so for a fee. All vehicles sold are either my personal property, or I may act as an agent for a personal friend, who has explicitly asked to have the vehicle listed and granted me the necessary POA to do so and complete the sale. Vehicle has a clear title. A $500.00 deposit via PayPal is due within 24 hours of the auction close ... NO EXCEPTIONS. At that point I have invested time in receiving bids, I will post negative feedback for non-payers. Coordinate directly with me for payment of the remaining balance. Selling price will determine which method I prefer. The vehicle MUST be shipped within seven (7) days of the conclusion of the auction. After that, I will have the option of terminating the sale at the forfeit of the deposit, unless you coordinate directly with me for additional storage. A storage fee of $25 per day then applies. Shipping is the exclusive responsibility of the buyer. Vehicles may be picked up with 24 hours prior notification during business hours and 10-3 on Saturdays. I strongly recommend professional shippers who use enclosed trailers. If you have ZERO feedback on eBay, you MUST call or message me to request authority to bid on a vehicle. I will cancel bids made without authorization. I do not release my reserve price, as this would be unfair to the other bidders, so please don't ask! Because I advertise elsewhere, I reserve the right to cancel any eBay listing at any time.

Car owners getting more irritated with their repair experiences, study says

Thu, Mar 9 2023

The J.D. Power U.S. Customer Service Index Study (CSI) is a barometer of a vehicle owner's happiness with the service experience. While it wasn't all bad in the 2023 study, the overall owner satisfaction score dropped. This year's tally of 846 out of 1,000 is two points down from 2022, the 43-year-old study's first decline in more than 28 years, and one point down from 2021. However, the overall score remains well up from the pre-pandemic scores of 821 in 2018 and 837 in 2020. The study claims the stumbling block is the horde of BEV launches. The flood into the new energy space has created a recall rate among EVs that's more than double the rate for ICE vehicles. Furthermore, dealership service department knowledge of EVs isn't on par with internal combustion engine expertise, leaving EV owners less satisfied with service advisors compared to ICE owners. Chris Sutton, VP of automotive retail at J.D. Power, said, "As training programs for service advisors and technicians evolve, EV service quality and customer experience must address both the vehicle and the unique customer needs. The EV segment has the potential to spur massive convenience improvements in how customers service their vehicles — but weÂ’re not seeing the benefits yet." Matters are slightly worse for all owners, though, with labor and parts shortages contributing to longer wait times for service appointments. The CSI study surveys owners and lessees of one- to three-year-old vehicles to gauge their happiness with service at franchised dealer or aftermarket service facilities for maintenance or repair work. The criteria in order of importance are service quality (32%); service advisor (19%); vehicle pick-up (19%); service facility (15%); and service initiation (15%). Lexus retains the top spot for luxury brands, giving it three wins in four years. The Japanese automaker won in 2020 as well, its run interrupted by Porsche in 2021. Cadillac, Infiniti and Acura complete the luxury top 5.  For mass-market cars, Mitsubishi wins again after a victory in 2021 and falling to fourth last year. It's followed by Mazda, Buick, Subaru and Mini.  Considering the different service needs and service experience of different body styles, the study has broken results out by segment for the first time. Lexus earned a second victory thanks to winning the premium SUV segment, and Mitsubishi earned a second victory by winning the mass-market SUV/minivan category.

Hot air balloons caught in high winds drag fullsize SUV

Mon, Jul 20 2015

A sudden storm front whipped up enough wind to send some hot air balloons flying into the air in Wisconsin over the weekend. One ballon proved so energetic that it was able to drag a fullsize SUV across a field and into a stand of tents. The freak accident occurred at Balloonfest in Waterford, Wisconsin. Spectators were horrified as balloons dragged handlers to the ground and launched with terrified pilots clinging to their baskets. Organizers had started packing up the colorful balloons due to ominous storm clouds when the wind kicked up. "Happened just like that; it was crazy," Nathan Fricke, crew member, told Fox 6. Winds were clocked at 40 to 50 miles per hour. A balloon caught in the wind dragged a large SUV (we think a Suburban or Yukon XL) hundreds of feet and into a cluster of tents on the edge of the staging area where balloons were on display for festival goers. Considering that the SUV surely weighs well over 5,000 pounds, it's lucky that no one was injured in the incident. News Source: Fox6Now Weird Car News Chevrolet GM GMC SUV

GM executive chief EV engineer says reducing cost of plug-in vehicles is 'huge priority'

Mon, Mar 17 2014

As we know, another major automaker investing heavily in electrified vehicles is General Motors, and it's doing things much differently than rivals BMW, Ford or Nissan. The Chevrolet Volt extended-range EV is a modest seller at its $35,000 sticker price but a huge hit with owners. The Chevy Spark BEV, still in limited availability, puts smiley faces on its owners and drivers. The just-introduced Cadillac ELR, a sharp-looking, fun-driving $76,000 luxocoupe take on the Volt's EREV mechanicals, has admittedly low sales expectations. With this interesting trio in showrooms and much more in the works, the third vehicle electrification leader I collared for an interview at Detroit's North American International Auto Show (see #1 and #2) was Pam Fletcher, GM's executive chief engineer, Electrified Vehicles. ABG: Why do your EREVs need four-cylinder power to extend their range when BMW's i3 makes do with an optional 650 cc two-banger? "We designed [the Volt and the ELR] to go anywhere, any time" - Pam Fletcher PF: I get that question all the time: why not something smaller? You don't really need that much. You use the electric to its ability, then you just need to limp. But we designed those cars to go anywhere, any time, and we don't want their performance to be compromised. If you're driving through the mountains, we don't want you to be crawling up grades, or to be limited on any terrain. So it's optimized to be able to travel literally the biggest grades and mountain roads around the globe at posted speeds. Because what if you can't? Another good reason: when the engine is on, you have to run it wide open throttle, max speed, most of the time. And while we can do a lot with acoustics, and the ELR has active noise cancelation, a small-displacement, low cylinder-count engine at high speed, high load all the time isn't something you want to live with. That's how we came up with the balance we did among the key factors of performance, NVH [noise, vibration and harshness] and range. ABG: Where you go from here? Is the range-extender engine due for an update? PF: We know and love the current Volt, and there is still a lot of acclaim about it, so we think it's a good recipe. But we are heavily in the midst of engineering the next-generation car, which I think everyone will love and be excited about.
