The transmission is the only non original power train part. Was turboglide, now Powerglide. Basecoat/clearcoat paint in the original color. Brand new Ciadella interior. New front and rear glass. beautiful car ready for cruise or show. Some minor flaws in the paint and side window glass visible only up close."

This car was originally sold by Hastings Chevrolet in Santa Monica CA on July 30 1957.  I bought this car in 1978 from the second owner.  I do have most of her receipts for service up until that time as well as the original owners manual (not a repro).   I drove the car for about 6 months and then parked it along with several other cars on my "to restore" list.  Finally about two years ago I began the restoration. The car had been repainted blue so the first chore was to strip it completely and repaint it in the correct "Imperial Ivory".  The car ran but it had been sitting so long that I decided to rebuild the engine, carburetor, brakes, and transmission.  The engine code (F709GC) shows the car to  be a 220 hp power pack with a turboglide transmission.  I found in the stack of receipts that the trans had been changed to a powerglide in October 1974.  This is the only non original part in the powertrain of this car. The Generator and Power brake master cylinder were rebuilt and new wheel cylinders were installed along with new brake shoes.  A new fuel pump, and fuel tank were installed along with a new original style exhaust system.  The radiator was recored. The front bumper was rechromed and all the other chrome pieces were replaced with Danchuck parts.  The stainless trim was polished and reinstalled with new Danchuck brackets.  The windshield and rear window were replaced with new from Danchuck and the wiper motor was rebuilt. Other new parts include the light switch, dimmer switch, neutral safety switch and back up light switch.  The complete interior was purchased from Pete Ciadella (Tempe AZ) in the original trim code 670 colors and installed in San Diego by Ciadella's recommended shop. New tires were installed. The car is beautiful but not perfect.  I did not replace the side glass and they show some minor delamination, there are some very minor scratches and small dents in the stainless trim around the front windshield, and there are a few minor imperfections in the paint that can only be seen from very close inspection. The radio and clock do not work but everything else does.  The last two restored cars I sold both had their radios changed to something new fangled immediately so I didn't want to waste the money fixing them. All in all you will be proud to own this car and I believe it is priced well below the market. Here are the numbers on the car.  Engine: F709 GC, date code G37 (July 3rd 1957)  Cylinder heads #3731559  The VIN shows the car was built in Long Beach CA on friday July 19th 1957.  You'll note it has the California style one piece front bumper and the smooth frame.  I do not know why, but the owner that I purchased the car from changed the license plates in september 1975 to the current 466NCC from the original KRK853. The original plates should have been yellow with black letters  (not black with yellow letters like the 1960's)  I have receipts and paperwork for all of the above items and the car comes with a photo album showing the entire restoration.

Here is your chance to go back 56 years and see how it really was with an unmodified almost original 57 that looks and smells like it just came off the showroom floor. I would urge any bidders to come look at the car or have a professional inspect it. The car is for sale locally so I reserve the right to close the auction any time if my reserve has not been met.  The buyer must deposit $500 dollars within 24 hours of bid closing. (paypal or cash).  Full payment to be made within 7 days. I will accept wire transfer of funds, Cashiers checks, personal checks, or cash but checks must clear before delivery.  The title is clear, the car is licensed and insured, and awaits a new owner.

Peter Max staring down $1M lawsuit over Corvette collection sale

Wed, Dec 17 2014

Pop artist Peter Max recently sold off his collection of 36 vintage Chevrolet Corvettes – one each from 1953 to 1989 – for an undisclosed amount. The new owners have already announced plans to restore some of them and auction the models off sometime soon. Up until then, the sports cars had been languishing in various garages around New York City for decades and were caked in dust and grime. However, Max's end of the transaction has just become more complicated, because two men are suing the artist claiming he employed them to complete the deal first. The men allege that Max hired them to broker the sale of the 36 Corvettes in exchange for a 10-percent commission, according to the New York Post. They claim to have emails and text messages proving the existence of the deal, and are taking Max to court for $1 million over the squabble. The collection of Corvettes was amassed in 1989 as part of a prize package from the television network VH1, and Max bought the cars from the winner intending on using them for an art project. He never got around to it, though, and parked the sports cars around New York, until he finally sold them over the summer.

Best cars for snow and ice in 2023 and 2024

Tue, Jan 23 2024

What's the best car for snow? The real answer is "the one with winter tires." What do we mean by that? You could have the finest, most advanced all-wheel-drive system or four-wheel drive in the world, but if you're running all-seasons (the spork of tires), your fancy four-wheeler won't matter much. The odds are, any vehicle on the road running good winter tires will probably perform adequately in slippery, slushy and/or snowy road conditions. (Here's a more complete explanation of why winter tires are totally worth it). In other words, you don't really need any of the cars on this list. With a set of winter tires, countless others will do the job, and even these will be at their best with proper rubber. You can find a variety of winter tires for your car here at Tire Rack. Keep in mind that you will need a full set of four snow tires for safety and performance, no matter what you're driving. The days of your dad putting just two snows on the family truckster to get it moving in a straight line are long gone. Don't get us wrong, getting a car that performs well in snow and ice is still a worthy criteria for car buyers. According to the U.S. Transportation Department, 70% of Americans live in places that get snow and ice. And much of the country has been blasted with arctic air for much of the new year. So let's look at the cars. First, we're highlighting choices for a variety of buyers and price points. Second, we're not just considering snow; we're considering general wintery conditions people will experience driving to work or school. As such, these are all choices with advanced all-wheel-drive systems, usually with "torque-vectoring" systems that not only automatically shunt power front and back, but side to side between the rear axles. Most have extra ground clearance for getting through deep snow, and we prefer those vehicles with more responsive steering, throttles and transmissions that provide a greater sense of vehicle control in slippery conditions.    Acura RDX Read our Acura RDX Review Acura's Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system was one of the first to offer torque-vectoring, and besides often being touted for its ability to greatly enhanced dry-road handling, its benefits in the slick stuff can be profound. It's actually surprising that Acura hasn't leaned into this capability further by offering more rugged versions of its vehicles.

Chevy Volt 'acceptable,' Nissan Leaf 'poor' in new IIHS safety tests

Thu, Jul 31 2014

Ford C-Max Hybrid also scored "acceptable" rating. With US Nissan Leaf sales up almost 30 percent during the first half of the year, the only thing that might be able to stop the battery-electric vehicle is a good, stiff barrier. Unfortunately, thing's aren't always pretty when that happens in the real world, according to new tests from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Things with the Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in are a little bit rosier, though. The two plug-in vehicles were part of a batch of a dozen vehicles that just went through the IIHS's "small overlap" test, in which the driver's side front corner of the vehicle is crashed into a rigid barrier at 40 miles per hour. Out of the dozen, only the Mini Cooper Countryman was given a "good" rating. Five vehicles, including the Volt and the Ford C-Max Hybrid, were rated "acceptable," two were "marginal" and two, including the Leaf, were "poor." Plug-in vehicles are unique in the crash-test context because of their relatively large battery sizes. In the Volt's case, the driver had a "low risk" of injury, said the IIHS. But the Leaf's crash substantially pushed back the instrument panel and steering column, creating a scenario where the driver was "likely" to sustain leg injuries. The batteries in both the Leaf and the Volt passed safety tests specifically targeted at things like thermo and electrical properties and overall integrity. "Nissan is proud of the Leaf's 'Good' rating in all other IIHS tests, a 4-star NCAP rating from NHTSA and its IIHS Top Safety Pick rating in all previous years since the car's release," the company said in an e-mail sent to AutoblogGreen. "As for the performance of the 2014 Leaf in the 'small overlap frontal test,' Nissan will continue to review these and other results from the IIHS 'small overlap frontal test' as we seek opportunities for improvement." Check out the IIHS's press release and small car crash-test video footage below. Range of ratings: Small car ratings run the gamut in challenging small overlap front test The Mini Cooper Countryman is the only small car to earn a good rating among the latest group of 12 cars subjected to the Institute's small overlap front crash test. Two electric models and a hybrid also are in the mix, with varied results. The electric-powered Chevrolet Volt (with a gasoline engine "range extender") earns an acceptable rating, while its battery-electric rival, the Nissan Leaf, earns a poor rating.
