2016 Chevy Camaro takes a walk on the wild side at SEMA
Tue, Nov 3 2015From highly modified restomods to tuned pickups, Chevrolet has over 20 custom vehicles at this year's SEMA Show. Given the popularity of the Camaro in the aftermarket, it's no surprise that the new, sixth-generation model gets in on that act with four modified examples. Thanks to a combination of concept parts and components on the way in early 2016, Chevy gives future owners an idea of what's possible for their new coupe. Among the group are two takes on the SS trim at opposite ends of the color spectrum. The Chevrolet Performance version is Summit White with red accents, and it uses a lowered suspension to hunker the body over conceptual 20-inch wheels. Alternatively, the Camaro Black wears darkened trim, tinted glass, and matching 20-inch wheels. Chevy beefs up their performance to fit the added style by equipping both customs with exhaust, air intake, and brake upgrades. By far the weirdest among Chevy's group of modded Camaros is the Krypton concept in a custom shade of eye-popping green. This wild paint is electroluminescent, and when the system is activated, illuminated bowties appear across the body. Headlights with matching trim and painted exhaust tips finish off this alien aesthetic. Finally, the Camaro Hyper concept is for those looking for just a little added style for their coupe. Based on the LT trim with the 3.6-liter V6, it features Hyper Blue Metallic paint with white stripes and rides on 20-inch wheels. For a little added performance, coupe uses Chevy's aftermarket exhaust and a lowered suspension. Chevy, Kid Rock in Confederate flag row with civil rights group
Mon, Jul 13 2015Two of Detroit's own are ensnared in controversy today. In an interview with Fox News' Megyn Kelly, mulleted musician Kid Rock told those protesting the Confederate Battle Flag to "kiss my ass." Now, Chevrolet, which is sponsoring Rock's summer concert tour, is under fire for its support. "We are committed to our sponsorship of Kid Rock's summer tour and are confident that he will provide his fans, many of whom are proud Chevrolet owners, with a spectacular concert experience that celebrates American Freedom," a Chevy spokesperson told The Detroit Free Press last week. The company also uses the Kid Rock anthem Born Free in its pickup truck advertising. The company's position is not sitting well with the Detroit chapter of the National Action Network, though, which has called on GM to pull its support for the embattled artist. "It's obvious to us that, by supporting [Rock], while he's making inflammatory statements, General Motors becomes an accomplice if they allow him their support to stand behind his statements," the Rev. Charles Williams II, NAN's Detroit chapter director, told the Freep. As controversial as Rock's comments are, it's not entirely clear when the last time he actually waved that flag was. The Freep reports that several concertgoers don't recall seeing the flag during his most recent tour, or even over the last few years of concerts. In a 2002 interview with the paper, Rock, real name Robert Ritchie, said that the flag had been used as a symbol of southern rock and a rebel spirit, saying: "It's not about hatred or being a racist. I like Southern rock music, and a lot of people died under that flag for beliefs they had, right or wrong. But it stands for rebel, and my love of Southern rock." Related Video:
GM ending stop-sale order on heavy-duty trucks
Tue, Apr 26 2022General Motors responded to an inquiry from Autoblog regarding a stop-sale order on its full-size heavy-duty pickup trucks. Here's GM's official statement. GM is committed to building the highest quality products possible. We paused delivery on a small number of HD pickups with the 6.6 liter Duramax engine last week to finalize an investigation into a potential quality issue. The investigation has been completed and the stop sale will be lifted for the small number of vehicles at dealerships.Customers can be assured GM’s heavy duty pickups are covered by a 5 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty. The original article continues below. General Motors has reportedly sent its Chevrolet and GMC dealers a stop-sale order that applies to some examples of the 2022 Silverado HD, the 2022 Silverado MD, and the 2022 Sierra HD. The units affected by the stop-sale order may develop an engine-related problem. Citing anonymous sources, website GM Authority wrote that the Duramax 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8 in the affected trucks can hydrolock, which means liquid could enter the cylinders and cause a substantial amount of damage. The report does not specify where the liquid would come from; hydrolocking can happen by driving through a deep puddle of water, for example, but a large amount of coolant can cause it as well. The publication adds that the stop-sale order was assigned internal reference number N222362910. It also notes that the trucks included in it can't be sold, delivered to buyers, traded with another dealer, sent to auction, or even used for demonstration purposes until further notice. Earlier in April 2022, GM Authority reported that General Motors planned to buy back an unspecified number of Silverado HD and Sierra HD trucks due to quality-related issues with the 6.6-liter V8. Details about the problems experienced by customers haven't been released; all we know is that each truck will be replaced, though the replacement may not have the same equipment due to the ongoing chip shortage.
