up for sale is my black 2007 chevy 2500 hd crew cab LT3. its being sold with a fisher 7.5 stainless steel extreme v minute mount snow plow. I am the original owner of the truck. u can see by the options that this truck came from the factory loaded and i spared no expense adding options or maintaining this truck. i added over $15000 worth of upgrades to this already loaded truck. anybody who knows these trucks, can see for themselves that this truck is well maintained and knows what they are getting. If you dont know about these trucks, i will tell you that this truck, with this set up and the stuff i added, makes it the cadillac of work trucks. this is strictly the bosses truck! the truck has 69k well cared for miles on it, 40k of those miles are all documented highway miles from my commute. even though she can pull a house, shes never been off road and never hauled or towed anything. she was strictly a daily commuter. shes barely broken in! it has the vortech 6.0 liter v8 motor that we all know is chevy's true powerhouse v8 motor thats capable of reliably getting 200k plus miles on her without a hiccup. when i say this truck is well cared for, i mean it! im kinda anal about preventative mint, i guess it a Marine thing! all regular service was performed and documented by GM dealer ie) lube, oil, filters, fluids, tires, inspections etc done every 3-6k miles. any in between service was performed by goodyear service. all upgrades were professionally installed and maintained. all original documents for purchases of added equipment, installation, and all service performed on equipment and truck is in a file for the new owner to take with the truck. your welcome. seriously, just look around and see if you can find a better low mileage, more decked out 2500  in this good of shape with all its regular service documentation anywhere near this price! (the cons) the only problem i have ever had with this truck other than the usual minor switch or bulb replacements, is recently it had a squeeky u joint which needed to be greased,  i brought it in and the mech recommended replacing the front u joint soon, which is common on these trucks. i had them replace both front and rear with upgraded stock at that time rather then wait till later. there have been no other mech issues! paint issues) although minor, i will list that there are a couple little dings and scratches here and there which are barely noticable and can be touched up or buffed out by someone who knows how to do it. i never bothered because after all, ts supposed to be a truck! you cant really notice them but its a black truck and im an honest guy!  so here goes.. 1) there is a small door ding in the pass door from some pinhead in a parking lot that doesnt know how to open a damn door! i tried to show it in pics but its small. 2) there is a small scratch / ding on drivers side rear bed panel just below the bedrail. that was from yours truly, lifting a picnic table into the bed. that too can be buffed out or touched up, but its not really that noticable either. 3) this one pissed me off at first but i got over it, i didnt notice till after the fact that GM doesnt use pads under the top rails of thier bedliners (brilliant).  needless to say the bedliner rubbed the paint on top rails! GM offered to touch up the paint on the top rails but i declined because i was going to get a spray in liner done anyways. long story short, i didnt get the liner done and if you lift up the liner you can see the paint is scratched on top rails. not really noticable unless you lift up liner and it can be touched up as well. come on guys, even though she's sexy, its still a mans truck and some scratches are to be expected! ok thats it for the cons now i will list some of the options but i only have limited room so feel free to ask any questions. 1) top of the line 7.5 fisher stainless steel extreme v snowplow with fishstick handheld control & mount, barely used 3 seasons. used only for personal use to plow 3 blacktop driveways, mine 100ft, parents 60ft, grandparents 70ft, in mint condition. 2) suspension leveling kit 3) GM snow plow prep pkg (bigger alternator, hd wiring, roof lighting wiring prep with dash switch) 4) GM trailering pkg with added elec trailer brake & mount 5) GM bug & rock hood deflector 6) GM full cab window vent shades 7) weathertech full cab molded floor mats 8) 2" drop adjustable reese hitch with 2 1/4 ball & master hitch lock 9) GM over the rail & tail bedliner 10) GM chrome tube steps 11) GM chrome bumper pkg 12) ext transmission cooler 13) in dash 6 disc cd changer stereo with bose speakers with rear aux controls and headphones for dvd hook up 14) portable sirius stiletto satellite radio with dash mount and headphones (yes portable sat radio, take it out of the truck and use it when going for a walk, riding your bike, on the job site or cutting your grass) its pretty wild. 15) power leather heated seats 16) power heated auto dimming & tilt mirrors 17) upgraded long range remote start with alarm and anti theft fuel shutoff system 18) oversized goodyear silent armor pro grade kevlar reinforced tires 19) 3x GM chassis undercoating 20) upgraded ultra bright headlights & plow lights 21) new upgraded u joints 4/18/13  22) new upgraded ceramic brake pads & rotors 2/10/13. there is literally a ton more options. like i said i spared no expense!  why am i selling? even though its going to be tough to part with my baby, i lost my job in this twisted economy and feeding my other two babies is a priorty right now. as much as i hate this saying, i guess my loss is really your gain!  as you can see i have reasonably priced this truck to sell quick, so read the listing, do your research and please skip the low ball offers!!   ASKING 30,000 OR BEST OFFER.    I will work with the buyer on arranging pick up of truck or on shipping the truck anywhere and anyway you would like but shipping is ON YOUR DIME..      thanks for looking   SEMPER FI

24 Hours of Le Mans live update part two

Sun, Jun 19 2016

We tasked surfing journalist Rory Parker to watch this year's live stream of the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans. What follows is an experiment to experience the world's greatest endurance race from the perspective of a motorsports novice. Parker lives in Hawaii and can hold his breath longer than he can go without swearing. For Part One, click here. Or you can skip ahead to Part Three here. I write about surfing for a living. If you can call it a living. Basically means I spend my days fucking around and my wife pays for everything. Because she's got a real job that pays well. Brings home the bacon. Very progressive arrangement. Super twenty first century. I run a surf website, beachgrit.com, with two other guys. It's a strange gig. More or less uncensored. Kind of popular. Very good at alienating advertisers. My behavior has cost us a few bucks. I'm terrible at self-censorship. Know there's a line out there, no idea where it lies. I still don't understand any of the technical side. Might as well be astrophysics or something. For contests I do long rambling write ups. They rarely make much sense. Mainly just talk about my life, whatever random thoughts pop into my head. "Can you do something similar for Le Mans?" "Sure, but I know absolutely fuck-all about racing." "That's okay. Just write what you want." "Will do. But you're gonna need to edit my stuff. Probably censor it heavily." So here I am. I spent the last week trying to learn all I can about the sport of endurance racing. But there's only so much you can jam in your head. And I still don't understand any of the technical side. Might as well be astrophysics or something. While I rambled things were happening. Tracy Krohn spun into the gravel on the Forza chicane. #89 is out of the race after an accident I missed. Pegasus racing hit the wall on the Porsche curves. Bashed up front end, in the garage getting fixed. Toyota and Porsche are swapping back and forth in the front three. Ford back in the lead in GTE Pro. #91 Porsche took a stone through the radiator, down two laps. Not good. The wife and I are one of those weird childless couples that spend way too much time caring for the needs of their pet. French bulldog, Mr Eugene Victor Debs. Great little guy. Spent the last four years training him to be obedient and friendly. Nice thing about dogs, when you're sick of dealing with them you can just lock 'em in another room for a few hours. You don't need to worry about paying for college.

It's time for Corvette to attack Porsche

Fri, Jun 26 2015

For most of its existence, Porsche was a smug little sports car company with a fairly limited lineup and small but steady sales. Any time the company strayed from its air-cooled, rear engine formula, the purists would turn their noses. The 944? The 948? "Not a proper Porsche," they'd sniff. And then came the greatest sin of them all: the Cayenne. To the purists, this was treason. Porsche making an SUV? Horrors! Of course, you all know how it turned out. Porsche grew to be a profit-generating juggernaut within the Volkswagen Group. And since one SUV wasn't enough they added another, the Macan. By the end of the decade Porsche will have quadrupled its global sales. You have to wonder what else it has up its sleeve. Couldn't this be a lesson for General Motors? It has a terrific sports car brand in Corvette. In fact, it's arguably the most iconic brand within GM's full-line portfolio. But for its entire existence that brand has been locked up within Chevrolet. Maybe it's time for GM to treat Corvette as a stand-alone company. Maybe it's time for GM to unlock that brand and treat Corvette as a stand-alone company. A Corvette SUV could be a killer first step. Since Porsche only makes two SUVs, maybe Corvette could make three. Small, medium, and large. And just as Porsche has the Panamera, an executive sedan from team Corvette could become an instant "gotta-have" for the yacht-buying jet set. Of course, the Corvette purists will cringe. And the biggest hue and cry will come from Chevrolet's US dealers. That's why the best place to launch the new Corvette brand would be far away from those franchisees: in China. Chinese consumers have no pre-conceived ideas that 'Vettes can only be sold in Chevy stores. And Chinese enthusiasts very much admire Corvette's historic pedigree. You've no doubt read about how Chinese authorities are cracking down on conspicuous consumption. That makes the timing even better. Corvette's selling point has always been that it is an amazing bargain for the performance you get. What a perfect way to undercut Porsche. In fact, pairing the Corvette brand with Cadillac in China could be just the shot in the arm that Cadillac's Chinese dealers need. Despite having very competitive cars, Cadillac lags far behind Audi, Mercedes, and BMW. What Cadillac dealers need is a lot more showroom traffic. And a jaw dropping lineup of Corvette-branded vehicles could bring in throngs of buyers.

Chevy Volt replacement battery cost varies wildly, up to $34,000

Fri, Jan 10 2014

There's a growing hubbub in the plug-in vehicle community over what looks like some ridiculously cheap replacement batteries for the Chevrolet Volt going up for sale. GM Parts Online, for example, is selling a replacement Volt battery with an MSRP of $2,994.64 but, with an online discount, the price comes down to $2,305.88. For the 16-kWh pack in the 2012 Volt, that comes to a very low $144.11 per kilowatt hour (kWH). But is it a real deal? How can it be, when a Chevy dealer may quote you a price of up to $34,000 to replace the pack? For a 16-kWh Volt pack, $2,305.88 comes to a very low $144.11 per kWh. But is it a real deal? Battery packs in alternative propulsion vehicles are usually priced by the kWh and, historically, they've been thought to be in the range of $500-per-kWh for OEM offerings. Since automakers are understandably secretive about their costs, we still don't know what the real number is today, but we do know it varies by automaker. Tesla, for example, has said it pays less than $200-per-kWH at the cell level but, of course, a constructed pack would be more. Whatever is going on, li-ion battery prices are trending downward. So, $144.11 certainly sounds great, but what's the story here? Kevin Kelly, manager of electrification technology communications for General Motors, reminded AutoblogGreen that GM Parts Online is not the official GM parts website and that, "the costs indicated on the site are not what we would charge our dealers or owners for a replacement battery. There would be no cost to the Volt owner if their battery needs replacement or repair while the battery is under the eight year/100,000 mile limited warranty coverage provided by Chevrolet." A single price tag also can't be accurate for everyone, Kelly said. "If the customer needs to have their battery repaired beyond the warranty, the cost to them would vary depending on what needs to be replaced or repaired (i.e. number of modules, which specific internal components need replacement, etc.)." he said. "So, it's hard for us to tell you exactly what the cost would be to the customer because it varies depending on what might need to be repaired/replaced. As a result, the core charge would vary." But, is the $2,300 price even accurate for anyone? Thanks to a reader comment, we see that this similar item on New GM Parts makes it look like the lithium-ion modules that Kelly mentioned – where a lot of the expensive bits are – are not included.
