Up for auction at NO RESERVE is a 1999 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4. Extended cab with 3rd door. 4.8 V-8, Automatic O/D transmission, 4-wheel drive. 165K well maintained miles. Runs & drives great!

This truck starts, runs, drives, shifts, turns, and stops exactly as it's supposed to. No unusual sounds or smells. No leaks. No unpleasant surprises here, just a good, dependable, honest pickup truck.

My wife and I have owned this truck for about 6 years and have never had a major problem with it. All maintenence has been performed on time. I just replaced the tires and wheels with brand new take-offs from a 2012 Chevy truck. The front brake pads and rotors were replaced at the same time. The tires and front brakes have less than 1000 miles on them.

The paint on this truck shines very nicely. I have done my best to maintain the finish over the years. It's not perfect, but I'd give it a 9 out of 10.

The interior is also very nice. No rips, tears, or major stains. There is of course a small spot here or there in the carpet from normal use, but nothing bad. I would conservatively rate it at an 8.5 out of 10.

The engine is smooth and quiet. The transmission shifts good. The 4-wheel drive system works perfectly. The exhaust system is original and in excellent condition.

The only reason this truck is for sale is because I found a dynamite deal on a newer truck from a friend. I'd love to keep it around as a spare vehicle, but I really can't afford to keep 2 trucks.

Shipping is not being offerfed on this vehicle. If you require shipping, feel free to arrange it yourself. I will do my best to be available to assist your shipper in any way possible, but I WILL NOT be responsible for and damages incurred during shipment.

This truck is available for inspections and test drives from now until the end of the auction. If you'd like to check it out, contact me through ebay and we'll set something up.

This is a NO RESERVE auction. The high bidder gets to drive it home. There is a $200 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit due within 24 hours of the end of the auction via PAYPAL. This is to cover my ebay listing fees. The remainder of the winning bid is to be paid in CASH at the time of vehicle pickup. Pickup is to be within 7 days of the end of the auction. If you are unable to meet any or all of these terms, please do not waste my time or yours by bidding.

Thanks for looking, and happy bidding!

Chevy's latest Silverado videos assume we're idiots

Mon, Jul 6 2015

UPDATE: This article has been revised to reflect that any mention of materials used in a future Chevrolet Silverado is speculation. Can we have a sound, rational debate about the merits of aluminum versus steel? According to Chevrolet's latest marketing videos pitting the Silverado against the Ford F-150, the answer is no. The tone of all three ads is almost Orwellian: steel good, aluminum bad. Of course, this will all be a hilarious joke when an aluminum-bodied Silverado comes in 2018. That's an if, as a member of the General Motor public relations team has reminded me that any articles regarding future product are pure speculation. Until then Chevy needs to sell the current Silverado, with its body comprised chiefly of steel, against the Ford F-150's lightweight aluminum panels. Instead of touting the merits of the "most-dependable, longest lasting pickup," the strategy seems to center around negative propaganda towards the 13th element. The tone of all three ads is almost Orwellian: steel good, aluminum bad. Of the three videos, the most fair is Silverado vs. F-150 Repair Costs and Time: Howie Long Head to Head. Basically: aluminum costs more than steel, it's more difficult to repair, and requires special equipment for body shops. In terms of Chevy versus Ford, the blue oval truck costs more and takes longer to repair - an average of $1,755 more and 34 more days in the shop, according to the ad. But why stop there when you can have pitchman Howie Long raising an eyebrow at random facts? When Silverado Chief Engineer Eric Stanczak says of the Ford, "It's manufactured in a way that combines aluminum, rivets, and adhesive in a process that's different than Silverado." Long responds, "Huh. Interesting." At the end of the video, Long says "I'd be interested to know what happens to insurance costs." Note he's not saying anything substantive. If Chevy's legal team could sign off on some facts about insurance rates, it would be in this ad. On our Autoblog Cost to Own calculator, there is no significant difference in projected insurance costs between the two trucks. But at least that ad has facts. The other two videos are pure hype. In Cages: High Stength Steel, real people are asked what they think of aluminum and steel in a room with two cages. Then a bear is released into the room, and the subjects scurry to the safety of the steel cage.

Use this PowerPoint when convincing your spouse to let you buy a Corvette

When you are not the one in charge of the purse strings, creativity is a must when trying to get the string-holder to bankroll that next shiny object you just can't live without.
When I was a kid, I decided that life wasn't worth living if it weren't in pursuit of owning a GMC Typhoon. My 12-year-old self crafted a fiscal strategy that, when combined with my offer of a 49-percent share of ownership in the car in return for my parents' contribution of 80-percent of the purchase price, would see me behind the wheel of a Typhoon by the time I hit college. They walked away from the negotiating table and, the economic climate of the 8th grade being what it was at the time, another partner wasn't found before the Typhoon was discontinued.
Roy El-Rayes, however, has succeeded where 12-year-old me failed, and he did it by using the sort of professionalism that only a PowerPoint presentation can provide, along with some humor and bold-faced flattery.

2020 Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra recalled due to faulty brake component

Wed, Mar 11 2020

General Motors is recalling 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickups to fix a defect in the trucks' brake system. Certain Silverado and Sierra pickups were produced with brake-caliper bolts that were not heat-treated. Without heat-treating, the bolts are weaker than they should be, and there is a risk that they could fail, which would affect the trucks' braking performance, possibly leading to a crash. In total, 20,352 vehicles are affected. Owners of affected trucks will be contacted by GM. Dealers will inspect the bolts and replace those that are defective. Related Video:
