SELL THIS FINE '49... IT WAS ORIGINALLY ONE OF OUR FAMILY PROJECTS THAT WAS TO BE PASSED ON
FROM ONE GENERATION TO THE NEXT. HOWEVER, TO OUR DISMAY, WE FOUND THAT MANY IN THE UPCOMING GENERATIONS ARE MORE
INTERESTED IN CELL PHONES AND FACEBOOK THAN IN AN OLD CLASSIC CHEVY TRUCK.. THAT THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER OF THE EARLY CHEVROLET TRUCKS IS THE 'ADVANCED DESIGN' SERIES PRODUCED FROM 1947 THROUGH
1953..MANY PREFER THE '49 SHORTBED, 1/2 TON, AS THESE WERE LIGHT DUTY HAULERS IN THEIR PUREST FORM. OURS ALSO
HAS THE LIGHTEST GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT RATING OF ANY OF THE 1949 CHEVY TRUCKS.. THIS WOULD INDICATE THAT IT WAS
PURCHASED AS A LIGHT DUTY HAULER AND AS SUCH, LIVED A RATHER PAMPERED LIFE..IN OUR CASE, IT WAS PROBABLY
TRANSPORTING GOOSE FEATHERS TO A PILLOW FACTORY. THE WEIGHT RATING IS ONLY 4600 POUNDS AND IT HAS A CURB WEIGHT
OF ONLY 3100 POUNDS.. NOW, IF WE WERE FORCED TO DO THE MATH, THAT SOUNDS LIKE A PAYLOAD OF ONLY 1500 POUNDS MINUS
THE WEIGHT OF THE PASSENGERS.. NOT EXACTLY HEAVY DUTY HAULING, IS IT ? ? ACCORDING TO THE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER
THAT IS FOUND IN THE FRONT LEFT DOOR JAM, OUR TRUCK WAS BUILT AT THE KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI ASSEMBLY PLANT IN JULY
OF 1949..

NEWSTAND.. PURCHASE A COPY OF THE 'OLD CARS PRICE GUIDE'. THIS PERIODICAL IS CONSIDERED TO BE "THE" PREMIER VALUE
PRICE GUIDE BY MOST OLD CAR ENTHUSIASTS... ACCORDING TO THIS PUBLICATION, THE CHEVROLET PICKUP TRUCK FROM 1947
THROUGH 1953 IS RATED TO BE THE MOST VALUABLE, MASS PRODUCED, CHEVROLET PICKUP IN THE COLLECTOR VEHICLE
MARKETPLACE TODAY !!! THESE TRUCKS ARE RATED EVEN HIGHER THAN THE ULTRA SCARCE PICKUPS OF THE EARLY 1930's AND THEY
HAVE A VALUE WHICH FAR EXCEEDS THE HEAVY DUTY IRON OF THE MUSCULAR 1960's..IN FACT, RECENTLY ONE OF THESE TRUCKS,
RESTORED TO ITS ORIGINAL CONDITION, BROKE OVER THE $50,000 MARK !
THE FAMOUS "STOVEBOLT 6"
ACCORDING TO WIKIPEDIA, THESE ENGINES DERIVED THE STOVE BOLT NICKNAME WHEN THEY WERE FIRST INTRODUCED IN 1929..
THEY WERE CONSIDERED AN ENGINEERING MARVEL AND IT SURPRISED MANY TO LEARN THAT NEARLY ALL OF THE EXTERIOR ENGINE
BOLTS WERE 1/4 INCH BY 20 THREAD...THESE WERE THE VERY SAME BOLTS THAT WERE USED BY MANY WOOD STOVE MANUFACTURERS
OF THE TIME, THUS; STOVE BOLT SIX.. AS CAN BE SEEN IN OUR VIDEO, OUR LITTLE TRUCK RUNS EXCELLENT, SHIFTS THROUGH
ALL OF IT'S GEARS CORRECTLY AND IT'S STEERING IS TIGHT AND TRUE..

GM extends vehicle production cuts into mid-March due to global chip shortage
Tue, Feb 9 2021DETROIT — General Motors said on Tuesday it was extending production cuts at three North American plants until at least mid-March due to the global semiconductor chip shortage, while vehicles at two other factories would only be partially built. GM, whose shares dipped 1% after the announcement, did not disclose the impact volumes or say which supplier and vehicle parts were affected by the chip shortage. But it said it would focus on keeping production running at plants building its highest-profit vehicles, full-size pickup trucks and SUVs. GM said it intended to make up as much lost production as possible once the shortage chip eased. "Semiconductor supply remains an issue that is facing the entire industry. GM's plan is to leverage every available semiconductor to build and ship our most popular and in-demand products," GM spokesman David Barnas said. GM said it was extending downtime at its U.S. plant in Fairfax, Kansas, its Canadian factory in Ingersoll, Ontario, and its Mexican facility in San Luis Petosi until mid-March when it would reassess the situation, he said. In addition, GM would build but leave incomplete for final assembly vehicles at Wentzville, Missouri, and its Mexican plant at Ramos Arizpe. GM vehicles affected by the idled plants include the Chevrolet Malibu sedan, Cadillac XT4 SUV, Chevy Equinox, and GMC Terrain SUVs. Vehicles to be left incomplete for now included the Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon pickups and Chevy Blazer SUV. This week, GM had said it was idling the three factories where it has now extended downtime and said it would halve production at a plant in South Korea. The chip shortage has affected many automakers, including Toyota, Volkswagen, Stellantis, Ford, Renault, Subaru, Nissan, Honda and Mazda. Asian chipmakers are rushing to boost production but say the supply gap will take many months to plug. German chipmaker Infineon said the shortage would get worse in the near term. The chip shortage is expected to cut global output in the first quarter by more than 670,000 vehicles and last into the third quarter, IHS Markit said. AutoForecast Solutions estimated total lost production this year could reach 1 million vehicles. Honda and Nissan said on Tuesday they would sell 250,000 fewer cars in total this financial year due.
Recharge Wrap-up: Chevy hits CO2 goal, eVgo and BMW build fast charging
Fri, Nov 20 2015Chevrolet has met its goal of preventing 8 million metric tons of CO2 emissions over the last five years. Through its community-based carbon reduction initiative, Chevy invested $40 million and took part in 38 different projects in 29 different states. The projects included supporting wind farms, powering a hospital with landfill gas, helping truckers reduce their idle time and helping create the ongoing #CleanEnergyU dialogue between students and clean energy leaders. In the end, Chevy retired all its carbon credits rather then spending them to offset its own emissions. Read more from Chevrolet. NRG eVgo and BMW are partnering to add DC Fast Combo charging to locations around the country. Over the next two years, the groups will bring hundreds of the 50-kW chargers to 25 cities, with 24 of those markets getting at least one installed by the end of 2015. "eVgo will add reliable DC Fast Combo capability to what is already America's largest DC Fast charging network," says eVgo President and CEO Arun Banskota. "This will be the fastest and most cost effective build out of a new network ever – thanks in large part to our existing infrastructure and committed retail host partners." The HollyFrontier Corporation subsidiaries will pay $1.2 million for producing about 42 million gallons of gas that didn't adhere to Reid Vapor Pressure standards, resulting in 10 excess tons of volatile organic compound emissions. Its Salt Lake City refinery will also implement a program to offset past emissions. "This agreement will benefit public health by requiring retrofits of storage tanks at HollyFrontier facilities that will reduce volatile organic compound emissions and use next generation technology to verify these reductions," says Assistant Attorney General John Cruden. "This settlement shows that fuel refiners can and must meet the nation's standards for controlling the emissions that cause ground level ozone and serious health problems for Americans." 2014 Corvette Stingray meets Tesla Model S in drag strip showdown
Wed, Jan 29 2014They come from two different worlds and have little in common. The Tesla Model S P85 is the sportiest version of this paradigm-punching sedan from California, while the 2014 Corvette Stingray Z51 is a performance-enhanced version of Michigan's recently-updated sports car stalwart. The West Coast car seats five adults and eats electrons like Popeye eats spinach, the Easterner has two passenger places and, surprisingly, sips gasoline like one might bourbon. An attribute they do happen to share is extreme quickness. This similarity is all the excuse Drag Times needed to set the vehicles beside each other at the Palm Beach International Raceway for a bit of mano-a-mano quarter-mile combat. Fortunately enough, cameras were rolling for each of two bouts down the blacktop and the results recorded for our edification and enlightenment. The winner? We won't spoil it for you, but let's just say it's really, really close. How close? Scroll below and watch the video for yourself. Just be warned, the results may surprise you.
