Watch President Obama drive a Corvette around the White House
Thu, Dec 31 2015The season seven premiere of Jerry Seinfeld's web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee went live tonight on Crackle featuring the show's biggest guest so far. Yes, that's President Barack Obama driving a car around his front lawn. Seinfeld brings a classic Vette – a '63 split-window coupe with a 327 V8 and a stick!– to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for the president to ride in and later drive in a circle. Though they don't leave the White House grounds and barely break a walking pace, Obama seems to enjoy the rare event. For the caffeinated portion of the episode, the president and Seinfeld sit down in the White House's staff dining room. They chat about the usual stuff – celebrity status, the seat warmers in The Beast, their daily routines, and cursing. The video meant to be presented here is no longer available. Sorry for the inconvenience. From Crackle: Just Tell Him You're the President This is likely one of few times during Obama's two terms in office that he will get behind the wheel of a car. His VP Biden is no doubt jealous, as he owns a '67 Corvette 327 that the Secret Service won't let him drive. And yes, we realize Obama is not a comedian. There's probably a joke there, but we are not going to make it. Humor Chevrolet Videos jerry seinfeld comedians in cars getting coffee
2016 Chevy Volt to make auto show debut this season
Wed, Jul 30 2014Ever since we saw that spy shots of the 2016 Chevy Volt, we've been hungering for more information on the next-gen version of GM's green halo car. It appears we might not have long to wait, at least for an official tease. An inside source that wishes to remain anonymous told AutoblogGreen that GM will make two announcements regarding the second-gen Volt at the CAR Management Briefing Seminars in Traverse City, MI next week. The first, and most intriguing, is that that we will get our first glimpse of the new Volt at some point during the upcoming auto show season. That means either Los Angeles later this year or else Detroit, Chicago or New York in early 2015. The second bit of news is that GM will be moving production of the electric motors from Mexico to Michigan. Details and official confirmation are, of course, missing and Chevrolet declined comment to AutoblogGreen. We should know more next week.
2016 Chevy Volt wins Green Car of the Year
Thu, Nov 19 2015The award ceremony for the 2016 Green Car Of The Year announcement at the LA Auto Show today started with a joke video by juror Jay Leno. Showing of a restored and refurbished 100-year-old Detroit Electric EV, Leno said that while there were a lot of different powertrains in the running this year, he didn't expect any German diesels to win. Yuk yuk. There was no doubt that Leno was right; there were no diesels in the finalist's circle. The winner this year was the new, second-generation Chevy Volt, a plug-in hybrid with a 53-mile electric range and 106 MPGe. The first-gen car won the title five years ago, making the Volt the first model to be crowned Green Car Of The Yera more than once. The other finalists this year were the Audi A3 E-Tron, the new Toyota Prius, the Hyundai Sonata, and the Honda Civic. One of Green Car Journal's most important factors in deciding the winner is widespread availability, said Green Car Journal editor Ron Cogan as he announced the award. Qualifying vehicles also have to be on sale by January 1st of the award year (in this case, 2016). For the record, AutoblogGreen readers also picked the Volt to win in our poll a few months ago with 42 percent of the vote. Second place was the Prius, with 21 percent. Earlier this year, Green Car Journal had to strip the awards from two diesel vehicles, the 2009 VW Jetta TDI, which won in 2008, and the 2010 Audi A3 TDI, the 2010 winner. We enjoyed our seat time in the new Volt, and you can read our review here. Related Video:
