Non-original, but 1969 dated coded big block 396, According to cast numbers, it is a 1969 dated 396 for an Impala
or other large car model. The air cleaner and valve cover decals were present when I bought it. It was probably a
265 horse two barrel but now has an aluminum intake and Holley four barrel. Don't have head information. It sounds
like it has a mild cam but again I have no details. I have been doing sort of a "freshening up" versus a
restoration and for now, getting into the engine was a low priority. It runs strong and is very torquey. Not solid
lifter, probably more in the 325hp range than 375. Of course if it was the L78 396 we would be discussing a car
costing in the high 30s. Exhaust: original manifolds, mufflers and dual exhaust, no headers. Yes, there is a three
inch crack in the dash panel. I haven't opened the rear end, but according to axle stampings it came with the Eaton
3:31 positraction 12 bolt. To my knowledge, the car needs a new oil pan because someone before me stripped the
drain plug and it has a very slow drip. And it needs the aforementioned dash pad. TKO 500 5-speed transmission .
Original 12 bolt posi-traction rear end. New bell housing, flywheel, clutch, and driveshaft. New radiator, starter
and Mallory HEI distributor.
Straight body with no rust. Solid floors and trunk. California car New seat foam, covers, bucket seat backs,
headrests, and trim. New door panels, pull handles, and window cranks. New fuel tank, sending unit, lines, and fuel
pump. All new brake components front and rear, including calipers, rotors, pads, drums, shoes, and springs .
Speedometer does work. Reverse lights do not work only because they have not been connected to the switch that is
present on the new transmission. Trans also has electronic speedometer sensor which could be hooked to an
electronic speedo if a new gauge package were to be installed.
Garage kept for the past 9 years, and only driven 1200 miles during that time. A big hit at local car shows.

Take a close look at the guts of the Chevy Volt battery, powertrain

Sat, Aug 9 2014

Just how intimate would you like to get with the powertrain in a Chevy Volt? If you're anything like YouTube user d55guy, then spending a half hour filming yourself taking apart the battery pack, motor, inverter and more for a look inside sounds like your idea of fun. After all, this way you get to see the cooling system, the heavy safety kill switch and count up the individual cells in the battery modules. Fun! Turns out, we also enjoy languidly paced Volt dissection video goodness, and we think you might want to see it as well. So, we've embedded two videos below and if you don't have a better understanding of how the Volt is put together after watching them, well, at least you can't say we never tried to show you anything. Given that what's really happening here is the organized 'destruction' of an expensive and potentially dangerous object, let's talk safety. There's a serious disclaimer at the beginning of the videos and on the YouTube description page, but we feel the need to repeat the gist of it here: do not try this at home. The creator of the video says he is a trained engineer and has been doing things like this "for the better part of a decade," so he apparently knows what he's doing. With that in mind, watch it all below. When you're done seeing the insides of a Volt powertrain up close, if you need more filmed EV dissection/destruction, check out this video designed for first responders approaching a damaged Tesla Model S.
