1963 Nova Convertible on 2040-cars
Houston, Texas, United States
|
You are looking at a rare piece of history here! As most of you know, the only years of convertible Nova’s/Chevy II were 1962 & 1963. I addition, a V-8 was not offered until 1964. There were however some that were “dealer conversions” Excerpt from Wikipedia: Available engines for the Chevy II in 1962 and 1963 included a Chevrolet 153 4-cylinder engine (153 cu in (2.5 l)) and a new third generation 194 cu in (3.2 l) Chevrolet straight-6 engine . All Chevy II engines featured Overhead valves. Although the Nova was not originally available with a V8 option, it wouldn't be long before Chevrolet V8s were offered as dealer-installed options (between 1962 and 1963), up to and including the fuel-injected version available in the Corvette. The combination of readily available V8 power and light weight made the Nova a popular choice of drag racers. This car, from what my brother and I have discerned so
far is a dealer conversion. There are
many reasons we think it is. The inner
wells under the hood in the engine bay are not cut and the install looks
professional like a dealer converted it back in the day for a customer who
wanted a V-8. We believe the motor is a
1965 283 V-8 and the transmission is a 1965 M21 Muncie 4 speed. Headers and good condition dual exhaust with chrome tips. Even the shifter itself is of an older
variety that my brother (he is a total gear head and used to work in a pit
crew) says is from way back because the top handle of the shifter is welded to
the shifting rod, and it has a line lock on it (not connected) which is also
from way back. The motor has power pack
heads on it, and the old clip on retainers for the Chevrolet valve covers. I have heard there is a database somewhere of
dealer converted VINS, but have yet to dig into it. I cannot guarantee it is a dealer converted
car, but there are a lot of signs that it is.
If whoever gets this car does the digging, they may end up with
something far more valuable than I am selling it for. Mileage on the odometer shows 46950. I could not tell you whether it has flipped or not because the condition is so good. To be on the safe side though, considering it is 51 years old, it may very well have. The car is in incredible condition for a unrestored 1963, and turns heads every where it goes because it’s not that common. That is why I bought it and because it’s a convertible. As you can see from the pictures the paint looks great and the chrome even better. The paint does have some blemishes and dings/chips here and there, but overall still looks great and has a nice shine. The front bumper is a rare optioned bumper as well with the middle safety bar (I think it looks better than without). It has all the appropriate SS badging, but the VIN plate is not SS coded (again leads me to believe it was a dealer conversion). It also has the spinner capped SS hubcaps which are in great shape. The undercarriage is in great shape with virtually no rust. The trunk and all pans are also in great shape. The convertible top has one small spot where there was a small tear, but it was patched and is hardly noticeable. Otherwise it is in great shape. The rear zip out plastic window does have some clouding and could be replaced, but I bought the car to drive topless, so it has never been an issue. The drivers seat is covered with a matching leather piece on the lower portion, but the original cover is below it. Just replaced all the bushings on the front end, and the car drives tight and straight hands free. A non-refundable $500 deposit will be required at the end of the auction. The remainder will be due in cash or certified check/personal check. I am listing the car locally as well; as such the auction may end early. The vehicle is being sold as-is where-is with no warranty implied. Vehicle will be released once all funds are secured. I will work with your shipper but you will need to set it up. All inspections of the car are welcome, and must be done prior to the end of the auction. GM under fire from safety advocates over braking problem caused by recall fix
Thu, Feb 6 2020Safety experts are lambasting General Motors over what they say is the automaker’s slow notification of owners of certain 2019 sedans and trucks that a recall fix could cause power braking to fail and increase the risk of a crash, the Detroit Free Press reports. GMÂ’s original recall in December targeted about 550,000 Cadillac CT6 sedans and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickups, all from the 2019 model year, over potentially defective electronic stability control and antilock brakes. In that case, GM said the errors would not show up as a diagnostic warning on the instrument cluster. But after GM had done recall work on 162,000 vehicles, about 1,700 owner have complained that their power brakes didnÂ’t work after they had the recall done and then used the OnStar app to start their vehicle. GM then issued a supplemental fix for customers whoÂ’d already had their vehicles serviced. In this case, a diagnostic warning should illuminate saying either “Service Brake Assist” or “Service ECS,” which GM says is a signal that a customer should not drive the vehicle and instead call their dealer, which will tow the vehicle and have it repaired. Safety advocates say the automaker hasnÂ’t gone far enough to protect customers. “The fact that you could potentially start a vehicle and not have brakes is a pretty risky proposition,” Sean Kane, president of the Safety Research and Strategies, which works on auto issues for plaintiffs and governmental organizations, told the Freep. “The fact that they wouldnÂ’t notify owners (sooner) is pretty stunning.” GM told the Freep it was required to notify the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and file paperwork before it notified customers about the original recall, which was made Dec. 12. It then had to investigate and resolve the problem created by its original recall fix before alerting customers. GMÂ’s call center and dealers are contacting the remaining 900 customers who havenÂ’t yet had the update made to the original recall repair. GM also hired a vendor to send recall letters to the 550,000 customers affected by the original recall notifying them about the update. There are no known injuries or deaths related to the problem. Watch a 2015 Corvette Z06 run the quarter in 11.7 seconds
Sun, Dec 28 2014We're not writing about this because it's an amazing run, we're writing about it because it appears to be the first run. Someone took a 2015 Corvette Z06 to Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas and blasted it down through the quarter mile. It's still wearing the dealer number in wax pen on the windshield and dealer plates, so this example is fresh from the mold. It's also a seven-speed manual. General Motors said the row-your-own Z06 can do the 'strip in 11.2 seconds, and they undoubtedly had a professional driver and more than one run to set that time. To have Just Some Guy show up at the raceway and do an 11.7 at 120.54 mph on his first run means we expect good things to come as Z06s get delivered to their owners. Check out the run in the video.
Chevy ramps up development of Bolt EV
Thu, Jun 25 2015The Bolt is on the move, and Chevy confirmed Wednesday it is testing more than 50 prototypes as it prepares to launch the electric vehicle in 2017. We've already seen the photographic evidence in these spy shots, but Chevy released its own images and the above video as further proof that the EV remains on track toward production. Chevy revealed the Bolt as a concept in January at the Detroit Auto Show, promising a range of 200 miles on electricity with a price tag of about $30,000 after possible incentives. The prototypes are being hand-built and tested at the General Motors Proving Grounds in Milford, MI, and other global locations. "Effectively these are the bones of the car that's going to be the production Chevy Bolt," said Josh Tavel, the car's chief engineer. Chevy is testing the Bolt in all areas of vehicle competence, including ride and handling dynamics, cabin comfort, quietness, charging capability, and energy efficiency. More than 1,000 engineers are working on the program. "We really wanted to convey the notion that this is running fast. It's happening," said Pam Fletcher, GM's executive chief engineer of electrified vehicles. The Bolt will be built at GM's Orion Assembly plant north of Detroit and sold in all 50 states. It's part of the automaker's electric car blitz that includes the plugin hybrid Volt, the traditional (non-plugin) Malibu hybrid, and confirmation of plans to expand sales of the Spark EV to Canada and Maryland.
