Up for auction is a 1978 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 1AZ37 Sport Coupe. Great example of a very unique optioned late 70's GM "luxury muscle car". This car rolled down the Baltimore, Maryland assembly line, and was equipped with the optional 305 CI 140 HP V8. Mated to the SBC was a very rare, very low optioned Saginaw 4-speed manual transmission. This combo along with 800 lbs, and approximately 15 inches taken off the revised body of earlier second generation Montes, made it one the of the very few choices for someone looking for a sportier vehicle in a more economical time. This was mainly influenced by the 1973 Arab Oil Embargo and CAFE requirements. The muscle car era soon there after was close to non-existent. The majority of the population wanted a more fuel efficient vehicle. A V8/Manual combo didn't exactly fit the bill, especially in a luxury coupe like the Monte.

GM manufactured 225,073 Monte Carlo Sport Coupes in 1978. Out of these cars made just 1,719 were 4-speeds. More than half of those cars are believed to be paired with the 231 CI 105 HP V6. 1978 was the only year you could order the V8 and 4-speed combo since 1971 in America! You could get a 4-speed/V6 combo in 1979, but not one equipped with the V8. This particular Monte was specially ordered and sold by Booth Chevrolet in West Babylon, New York. Between 1978 and 2012 the Monte spent most of it's life in Tennessee, which it's current title will still reflect. In early 2012 it was purchased by a small performance shop in Carpentersville, IL, which is were I acquired it.

Although this car runs and drives it is a project car. The floors will need patchwork as well as the lower quarters. Both of the doors are showing  rust in the lower portions with the passenger door being the worst of the two. The paint is "driver" worthy in the areas where it is not peeling off.  The interior is worn, but everything is complete. Divers seat is torn. Power windows, wiper blades, gauges, defroster, dash lights and indicators all in working order. HVA/C system is complete. Body by Fischer door sill plates and original TTop coves are present. This car shows no sign what so ever of being in any type of accident, and the frame is solid.

Going off of the original dealer invoice the special ordered options include:

Now the important options in my opinion are 305 V8 (LG3) and Saginaw Trans (MM4), but then you throw in the 4 season AC (C60) a $430.00 option. And the option which sets this apart from all other 4-speed cars (CC1) removable glass roof panels for $487.50. This is 1 of 2 cars I have found with the CC1 and MM4 option. The other car did not have the original motor anymore, was not for sale, and the site it was posted on, was dated 2008, so who knows where it is now. Yes there are other 4-speed cars out there for sale. I really believe you will be hard-pressed to find a TTop car that still retains so many of it's original factory equipment.

The car is for sale locally, and I reserve the right to end the auction early. Please feel free to e-mail me with any additional questions you may have.

Man spent $75 on a truck that lasted 38 years

Mon, Jan 5 2015

Absurd as it is, some buyers today are worried about getting their car to last throughout the term of their seven-year car loan. Minnesota resident Bob Sportel has the opposite issue: his Chevrolet truck seemingly won't die. Sportel needed a cheap ride to get to work when he took a job at a farmer's co-op 38 years ago, so he bought a rusty 1957 Chevy pickup for $75 from a farmer; at the time, the 20-year-old truck was almost as old as Bob was. After nearly four decades of daily driving and an estimated 300,000 miles, Sportel is still driving the truck today. Bolts secure a fender, Bondo secures the lights, what looks like a whole roll of duct tape keeps him sitting on the bench seat instead of in it. For a 58-year-old pickup that's never seen a garage or a new coat of paint – but did get its oil changed four times a year – that's not bad; Sportel thinks his repair bill hasn't got above $1,000 for the entire time he's owned the truck. He still has no plans to get rid of it, saying, "It just becomes a part of you." You can watch his story in the video above. News Source: KARE11.com Chevrolet Truck Classics Videos

Nissan Leaf sales drop, new Chevy Volt climbs in November

Tue, Dec 1 2015

This is probably just how things are going to be from now on. With the second-gen Chevy Volt available in some states and Nissan dragging its heels on getting a true new version of the Leaf onto dealer lots, it's no surprise that plug-in vehicle shoppers are turning to the Volt in a big way. Yes, we know that a pure EV and a PHEV are not the same and that the Volt and the Leaf are quite different cars, but after all of this time tracking the two plug-in sales champions, we feel obliged to continue our monthly look at who's selling how many of what. Here goes. We'll start with the mediocre news. That'd be the Leaf sales, which came in at just 1,054 units last month. That's the lowest monthly sales total for all of 2015 and, in fact, the lowest month of Leaf sales since February 2013. It's also a 60.8 percent drop from November 2014's sales of 2,687. This despite the fact that you can now get a new Leaf with a longer range of 107 miles (vs. 84) for a higher cost. The new Volt (along with the first-gen Volts that are still being sold out there), on the other hand, was up 49 percent, to 1,980 sales. That gave the Volt its best November ever, "on both a total and retail basis," GM says. The Volt beat the Leaf in October, too, and we suspect this is going to be the story until Nissan figures out how to get people excited about a five-year-old model or introduces the second edition. As always, we'll have a fuller wrap-up of US green car sales in our By The Numbers report soon. Green Chevrolet Nissan Electric Hybrid ev sales

Race Recap: Rolex 24 at Daytona was fast and feisty

Mon, Jan 26 2015

Let the record show that victory at the 2015 Rolex 24 at Daytona went to the No. 02 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates Target/Ford EcoBoost Riley DP driven by Verizon IndyCar drivers Scott Dixon and Tony Kanaan and NASCAR drivers Jamie McMurray and Kyle Larson. The winner did 740 laps to cover 2,634.3 miles in 24 hours and 57.667 seconds. That's a statement to this year's pace in spite of 18 cautions, two more than last year: the Michael Shank Racing Ligier got pole with a time of 1:39.194, slower than last year's pole time of 1:38.270; however, the winning car last year only did 695 laps. The fight for top honors was shaved to a four-car battle over the first third of the event. The No. 02 Ganassi car took the lead on the first lap, swapping it well into the night with the No. 01 Ganassi car, the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette DP, and the defending champion No. 5 Action Express Corvette DP, all of them staying within about 20 seconds of one another. The Action Express car had a fuel connector come loose and lost three laps getting towed back to the pits to have it reattached, but was back in the lead 18 hours in. The No. 01 Ganassi car dropped out with recurring clutch problems 22 hours in, retiring not long after. A race-within-the-race is where the concluding action happened, a seven minute, 30-second dash from the end of the last caution to the checkered flag. During the penultimate pit stops with an hour to go, Dixon was in second place followed Jordan Taylor in the Wayne Taylor Racing DP into the pits but beat him out, taking the lead. The Action Express car was in third. In the last pit stops of the race, Dixon gained even more time, getting a four-second advantage over Taylor. Then a full-course caution came out twenty minutes before the finish when a Prototype Challenge car hit the wall and caught fire, bunching up the field. That closed the pits, but the Wayne Taylor Racing car had to pit during that yellow because of a miscalculation of driver time. No driver can be behind the wheel for more than four hours in a six-hour period but Jordan Taylor was going to go over, so he came in to swap out for brother Ricky. That cost the team any chance of second place, since they took an additional drive-through penalty for entering closed pits. When the track went green again, Sebastien Bourdais in the Action Express car stayed all over Dixon for the final five laps but couldn't get around him.
