This is a very nice, rare, and solid 1960 Chevy 2 door Impala bubble top. It is an older restoration that still shows very well. The car was completely disassemble to paint it this very attractive but non-factory color scheme. It is literally impossible to tell it was ever any other color. The color varies with the surrounding light levels. In the pictures I listed it appears to be more of a blue color than it actually is. In reality, it is more of a dark teal color in most lighting, but it is a very attractive color no matter what the surrounding light levels does to vary it. There is zero rust on this car as of now, the bottom is very clean, the door bottoms are solid, rockers solid, fenders, quarters, etc. but I can not honestly say that it has never had rust repair work done, and I do not know what State the car originated from. I do know that any replacement panels must have been professionally done as there are no signs of patchwork welds anywhere. It has all new weatherstripping. New tinted glass. All new reproduction interior. New gauges mounted to the same dash holes where the original gauges were. AM/ FM radio CD player in glove box. All new suspension, brakes, brake lines, etc. Power steering and brakes. All new polished American Torque thrust wheels and new B.F.Goodrich TA radial tires. The chrome and stainless trim is all in very nice shape but not newly re-plated. There are signs of where some of the trim was straightened out and polished, and the drivers side tail light bezel still has some dings and scratches on the edge of it. Car comes with matching color fender skirts, original factory steel wheels and hubcaps, front fender ornaments, and other misc, parts. Originally the car was built up as a 4 speed car and then later changed to the automatic. I do have every single piece to put it back to a 4 speed car, including Muncie 4 speed trans with Hurst shifter, bell housing, clutch, flywheel, all clutch rods, pedals, springs, drive shaft, etc. for an additional $875.00 if that would interest you. Currently, it is running a rebuilt 700-R4 over drive automatic with, now get this, a rebuilt 409 dual quad big block engine. Although it is not an original dual quad engine, it was built to similar specifications as one using a 1963 block and heads. It fires right up, choke works, and it cruises down the road like a new car. It also has a 3:55 factory posi rear end with the big "P" on the case. I was told it gets over 20 miles to the gallon on the highway, but have not verified that.

All in all, this is a super nice cruiser / pro-touring / muscle car / hot rod that gets a whole lot of looks. It is not a numbers matching car by no means.

Chevy 'committed to marketing Bolt the right way'

Mon, Nov 2 2015

The 2015 edition of the annual AltCar Expo in Santa Monica, CA in September was a relatively quiet affair. Attendance felt light compared to previous years. But that didn't mean there wasn't something happening that might have just as big an impact on the plug-in scene as anything that's ever happened in previous years at the Santa Monica Convention Center. I say this because of what GM's Shad Balch told me about Chevy's plans to market the upcoming Bolt electric car. This is GM's next-gen electric vehicle, which will have a roughly 200-mile range and may cost about $30,000 after tax incentives (maybe). To say he's excited to start selling this car is an understatement. Set aside the obvious challenge Chevy will have with cars named both the Volt and the Bolt, especially when some languages exchange the pronunciation of the letters B and V. Set aside the fact that, for now, Balch is dealing with his own company actively advertising against the product he's trying to get people excited about. Balch, GM's manager of new product and public policy communications, is tremendously positive about the Bolt's chances in the marketplace when it arrives in 2017 or 2018. "Driving an EV is, in every proof point, better than a gas-powered car, except for charging." - Shad Balch AltCar and the concurrent National Drive Electric Week represented the Bolt's West Coast debut, and Balch told me that the car's arrival in California shows how "Detroit recognized that they need to send it out to their number one market." The car's appearance outside of the Motor City was "The most encouraging part for us out here, being in the market ... to be able to explain that we are committed to marketing this car the right way. ... We're trying to make that known as much as possible, because that is the number one criticism that we hear. That's why events like these are so important, because we can't wrap up into a 30-second spot what these cars are capable of. I can't even explain it to you in 10 minutes what it's like. But the thing is, driving an EV is, in every proof point, better than a gas-powered car, except for charging." Now, there's a fairly decent chance that GM will hit the 250,000-vehicle limit for the $7,500 federal tax incentive right about when the Bolt comes to market, so I had to ask how the Bolt gets marketed if the price tag jumps up a few thousand dollars. Balch was straightforward. "Well, we would sell fewer cars," he said. "It's pure and simple. ...

Texas cops pull armed suspect from burning car

Fri, Jul 29 2016

A high-speed chase through Fort Worth, Texas ended in dramatic fashion earlier this month when FWPD pulled armed burglary suspects from the burning wreckage of their escape vehicle. According to NBC DFW, Fort Worth police were dispatched to Avington Way on the evening of July 16 to investigate reports of a burglary. The burglary victim told police he had arrived home to find three individuals hauling his property out of his house. When he approached them, one of the suspects pointed a handgun at him and told him to stay back. Then all three suspects climbed into a silver Dodge Avenger and sped away. FWPD officers spotted the Avenger a short time later on Sycamore School Road and, after the car refused to pull over, the chase was on. Police chased the burglary suspects through the city at speeds approaching 100 mph until the Avenger blew a red light and was t-boned by an oncoming pickup at the intersection of California Parkway and James Avenue. As the pursuing officers closed in on the disabled car, it suddenly caught fire. One suspect bailed out and ran for it, but the remaining two were trapped inside with the flames quickly mounting. Despite the spreading fire and the threat of armed suspects in the vehicle, police officers rushed to pull the men from the wreck. The driver was removed easily, but the passenger was unconscious and trapped behind a crushed passenger door. The scene was caught on the officers' body cameras as they pried the door open with their bare hands. Eventually the officers got the semi-conscious man out of the passenger seat just as the car was completely engulfed in flames. "It was pretty dramatic. We recruit people that can think on the fly, think quickly, and perform under pressure," FWPD Sergeant Marc Povero told WFAA. All three suspects are facing charges for burglary, and the driver was charged with evading arrest. Looking back at the Citation IV concept that likely shaped the GM EV1

Wed, Aug 20 2014

Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it. We're not sure how that applies to the GM EV1, but we'd still like to share something from Autoline Daily, an online automotive new show with our friend John McElroy. He's been covering the business for decades now and recently found something interesting: pictures of the 1984 Chevrolet Citation IV concept, seen above. Displayed half a decade before the first electric concept that would become the EV1 (inset), McElroy says it's now clear that the elegant, aerodynamic EV1 took a lot of styling cues from the Citation IV, which was developed in part thanks to GM's new-at-the-time Aerodynamics Laboratory. We agree with him that the spats over the rear wheels, the flush glass, and the covered headlights all bear a certain kind of similarity between the two cars. That the colors almost match is a nice coincidence. The Impact (the concept version of the EV1) looked "frumpier," McElroy says, because it wasn't as long as the Citation. You can read a lot more about the Citation IV here and check out McElroy's thoughts in the video below. Find the Citation starting at around 3:45. This content is hosted by a third party.
