I purchased this vehicle in Iowa  ( 1988 ) from a company that obtained it after the original owners had passed away. They knew the family and the history of the car. I drove it home to Wisconsin and it ran perfectly. It has been stored since in a dry environment in mothballs to keep the mice away. This car is completely original, nothing has been changed or modified . A  survivor with nothing sprayed or gooped on to mask the true condition. The interior is very nice, all gauges function except fuel ,needle goes from empty to full when the key is turned. The horn, lights, wipers all work , even the radio. The heater controls function as do the turn signals. The clock is only correct twice a day. The fabric is not worn and in excellent condition, carpeting has  some minor stains and  some spots on the headliner, but overall very nice.  All the rubber weatherstrip is soft and intact. At some point  wax was applied to the steering wheel  and has yellowed. The wheel has no cracks or chips and I did not try and remove the wax because I do not want to harm the plastic. It is not as bad as it sounds. The brite-work and stainless is very clean and straight, no pitting or scrapes. The chrome bumpers are very good except for one spot on the rear bumper below the license plate, looks like someone hit it with a hammer.  Very clean chrome with no corrosion. The lenses, badges and emblems are clear , the Impala badge on the passenger side has a screw in it, can't figure out why someone would do that. All the glass is blemish free, no fogging or cracks anywhere and no pits or scratches. The windows roll up and down smoothly and the doors close like a bank vault, no sagging hinges. What would you expect from an original car with less than 30 thousand miles, check the oil change sticker on the door and the odometer photo. This Chevy is painted  in GM lacquer and still shines with only a few scratches around the body. The body does have a few small dings/dents but none serious or bigger than a dime/quarter,  again look at the pictures. All the panels are straight and I can't emphasize enough how rust free this car is. I pulled up the trunk mat to see what hidden surprises were under it, nothing but solid sheet metal with no rust. The underside was not sprayed with undercoating so all you see is metal painted black. In the spots where the paint is degraded there is only factory red primer. The frame is also clean. This car has no body rust and the bottoms of the door are exceptional. The engine fires right up, but the generator light remains lit. Car has manual brakes and no power steering. I believe the tires are original and hold air but the sidewalls have cracks.. Surface rust in the engine bay only, very light. The 283 has not been repainted. Overall, very good car with a realistic reserve , nothing crazy here. Probably one of the nicest all original 59's you will ever see.

Electric Cadillac Lyriq, Chevy Bolt EUV and more GM electric cars are on the way

Wed, Mar 4 2020

GM’s murky and somewhat secretive electric car plan is falling into place, as the company dumped a massive amount of information about whatÂ’s in the pipeline at an event at its Warren, Michigan campus today. New EVs are going to be popping up across the GM brand lineup, with new entries from Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC and Buick in progress. We also learned some big news about GMÂ’s new Ultium battery tech today, but check out this story for all of those nitty-gritty details. The electric vehicle onslaught will begin with the Cadillac Lyriq, an electric SUV thatÂ’s already been teased out. Naming it the Lyriq is the news today. No explanation for the name was provided, so weÂ’ll have to wait for April to learn more. GM didnÂ’t specifically say if the Lyriq would be launched at the NY Auto Show, but that show (assuming coronavirus doesnÂ’t cancel it) will begin on April 8 this year. Next up in the order of events is the GMC Hummer electric truck that we know will be launching on May 20. This truck will use GMÂ’s modular Ultium battery technology. However, the wait to buy a GMC Hummer will be a long one, as the truck isnÂ’t going to dive into production until fall 2021 at GMÂ’s Detroit-Hamtramck plant. GM revealed that its new modular Ultium batteries can be configured anywhere from a 50 kWh pack to a 200 kWh pack depending on the application. Range is estimated to be about 400 miles on the upper end with the largest battery pack, and GM continues to boast about a 0-60 mph acceleration time of three seconds. Charging estimates for the Ultium battery-equipped Hummer EV were also provided. GM says its truck platform will have 800-volt battery packs and be capable of 350 kW fast-charging. Time estimates werenÂ’t given, but those numbers suggest the truck will be a rapid charger. The Hummer truck on hand, which was the same that previously starred in GMC's Super Bowl spot, showed off removable roof panels that store in the frunk, as well as what appeared to be a version of GMC's Multi-Pro tailgate. It also featured sail panels on the sides, similar to those in front of the bed of the Chevy Avalanche. In addition to the Hummer, expect to see a couple Chevys launching. GM says the refreshed Bolt EV will be launched “in late 2020” with a refreshed interior and what appear to be thicker front seats.

Body shop manager stole over $500,000 worth of government trucks and parts

Fri, Jan 27 2017

The US Department of Justice announced yesterday that the manager of a collision and restoration business in Virginia admitted he helped misappropriate and sell vehicles and parts from the State Department. Specifically, he sold 12 Chevrolet Suburbans, a Hummer, and $7,500 worth of tires and wheels. He pled guilty to charges to commit theft of government property and wire fraud. He will likely see 18 to 20 months in prison, a fine of $4,000 to $40,000, and has already agreed to pay restitution of $416,020 and asset forfeiture of the same amount. According to the Department of Justice, the body shop manager, James Ratcliffe, worked with the owner of the business and a State Department official, both unnamed, to obtain the property. It started with the wheels and tires, which were delivered and sold on two occasions, one in 2011 and another in 2012. The trucks came later, and were sold throughout 2011 and 2013. Ratcliffe and the shop owner kept most of the profits, and shared some of the leftovers with the government official. In addition to the vehicles that were sold, the government official also gave Ratcliffe a pair of Suburbans for his own personal use. The Department of Justice estimated the total value of the SUVs at $96,400. In total, the group misappropriated $512,420 worth of property. Related Video:
