I’ve always thought these were one of the coolest cars ever made – and after owning one for a few years, I am thoroughly impressed with the performance and styling. 1996 was the last year the Impala came in this body style and this one has the coveted sun roof option. Purchased over the internet from Chicago. When I took possession of it, it was in pretty bad shape. I invested around $20k on new headers and exhaust, 3 new window controllers, repaired blown head gasket, new more efficient roller/rocker assembly professionally installed at local race engine shop, new stereo, speakers, bass enclosure, new AC, small dent repair, touch up paint, new tint and new tires. The sun roof functions, but is a little temperamental and could use an adjustment. Telescoping antenna works good. The heater and AC both function very well. The front seats are fully adjustable. The leather is worn in a few spots, but is not too bad considering age of vehicle. The headliner has deteriorated a little, but it is still attached and doesn’t hang down or anything. Having lived in Chicago, the under carriage is pretty rusty, however, the mechanic tells me that everything is intact. There is a draw on the battery that the mechanic has not been able to find. It is very minute, but I had them install battery disconnect near the cup holder in case I need to park it for a while. The motor is strong and reliable. The LS1 can get this large sedan up to 100mph in a surprisingly short time and can lope along at 1200rpm north of the 80mph mark with little or no effort. The long wide chassis is smooth and comfortable and enables you to take on high-speed corners with confidence. Off the line, this car can still “get it” despite being almost 20yrs old.

Stolen '57 Chevy Returned To Owner After 30 Years

Three decades after it was stolen, a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air has been returned to a Northern California man - in better shape than when he originally owned it. The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports Ian "Skip" Wilson was shocked to get a call from the California Highway Patrol informing him that his long-lost Chevy was taken off an Australia-bound cargo ship. The 65-year-old says the car has had a lot of work done on it since it disappeared from his Lake County home in 1984. It was returned with a monogrammed interior, 17-inch racing wheels, rack-and-pinion steering and a 350-horsepower V-8 engine. The retired mechanic says the two-door was in sorry shape when he bought it for $375 in 1975 with plans for fixing it up. GM laying off more than 4,000 workers Monday morning

According to reports from Automotive News, The Detroit News, and CNN, General Motors plans to begin laying off more than 4,000 salaried workers starting Monday morning. In a statement to AN, a spokesperson for the automaker said, "We are not confirming timing. Our employees are our priority. We will communicate with them first." We've been expecting layoffs at General Motors since November, 2018. At the time, the Detroit-based automaker announced it would seek to shed 8,100 salaried employees, shut down five assembly plants in North America, and kill off several slow-selling models. One month earlier, GM offered buyout packages to 18,000 workers and said it would seek to cut its global workforce by 25 percent. A spokesperson said at the time the moves were "proactive steps to get ahead of the curve by accelerating our efforts to address overall business performance." The cost-cutting moves are expected to save GM up to $2.5 billion in 2019 and as much as $6 billion by 2020. David Kudla, CEO and chief investment strategist of Mainstay Capital Management, referred to the impending culling as "Black Monday" and told The Detroit News that the layoffs would begin around 7:30 a.m. and continue in waves throughout the coming days and weeks. GM plans to deliver on its fourth-quarter and full-year 2018 earnings report on Wednesday. President Donald Trump plans to deliver the annual State of the Union address a day earlier on Tuesday. We expect to hear plenty more from both sides over the next several days.

GM recalls 740,000 vehicles over daytime running light issue

General Motors is recalling over 740,000 vehicles due to a daytime running light issue that causes all of the affected cars to run afoul of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Vehicles affected by this recall are spread across many of GM’s brands. Models include the 2020-2023 Cadillac CT4 and CT5, 2021-2023 Buick Envision, 2022-2023 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, 2022-2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe and 2022-2023 GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL. GM says that the daytime running lights may remain on in these cars when the headlights are activated. This is a problem, because FMVSS rules require that the daytime running lights deactivate once the headlights turn on. If the DRLs remain on, GM says that could result in additional glare, thereby increasing the risk of an accident. The cause of this failure to deactivate the DRLs comes from body control module software that Â“under a combination of certain pre-conditions, could fail to deactivate the DRLs,Â” according to GM. Other GM vehicles were tested, but due to a difference in software or hardware, they remain unaffected. If this is reminding you of another recent GM recall, youÂ’d be right, as GM recalled another 340,000 vehicles for the same issue last month. After that original issue was found within GM, the company began looking into its other cars to determine if the population was larger than originally thought. GM found the additional vehicles included in todayÂ’s recall have the problem. The fix will either be via an over-the-air update or it will require you to bring the vehicle into a dealer for a software update, depending on which vehicle you have.
