Up for auction - 1968 Impala SS427 Convertible  - #s matching!  Runs. Documented:

This car needs some loving!   I have had it for many years and do not have any plan to restore it so its needs a new home.    It deserves to be restored because it’s a genuine original SS427 with a running original numbers matching engine and pedigree documentation.

Although the frame is pretty solid, the body is VERY rusty.

I have this for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction at anytime.

Low reserve at less than value of parts.

This is a factory original SS427, with original double fuel lines, 8 track, PS, PB, tach and gauges with correct 5500 rpm redline, tilt steering, bumper guards, fender lamps, front seat outer passenger’s shoulder belts.

Special Note: If you are wondering why the car has a bench seat - do some research.  This is a legitimate and original bench seat car with SS427.  This means the car was ordered new with the SS427 option (RPO Z24), but the Super Sport option,  (RPO Z03) was NOT ordered.  The SS427 option alone did not include buckets.

The Good:

Numbers matching original 385hp 427 engine with TH400.

Rare and desirable factory colour: Tripoli Turquoise with parchment (white) interior.

Near new convertible top, goes up and down.

Start, runs, moves and stops.  Tach and oil pressure work, all windows go up and down

Pedigree documentation: original protecto-plate, 1968 film strip showing this car with original owner.

Includes rare SS427 hood, louvers, dash emblem, fender emblems.

Frame appears solid except may be some bad areas near rear springs.

The Bad:

Car needs complete restoration!  Very rusty.

Someone tried to put AC in this car and installed the underhood portion (original heater system is in trunk).

On May-19-14 at 11:16:36 PDT, seller added the following information:

Please note that the release of the original filmstrip is subject to the approval of the original owner.   This filmstrip shows the happy new owner of the SS427 in late summer 1968 driving around in his home town in Indiana.  The film also has personal footage and as such I feel it is respectful to ensure he approves that this film can go to the next owner.

This is not such a bad thing as the purchaser will get a chance to talk to the original owner of this car.  Apparently, the gentleman was having his Corvair serviced and while waiting he wandered around the dealership and found this SS427 on the show room floor and fell in love with the car.

On May-20-14 at 13:20:40 PDT, seller added the following information:

Included with car is a complete original clean and solid floor pan that was cut out of another Impala.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible headed for Geneva debut

Mon, 28 Jan 2013

While most of the world is still coming down from all the hype surrounding the debut of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this month, we're already looking to the future. And according to Autoweek, the next chapter in the C7 story will unfold at the Geneva Motor Show in March. That's right, General Motors is reportedly using the Swiss stage as its venue to debut the Corvette Stingray convertible.
If this strikes you as odd, you aren't alone. After all, with a car that's such an American icon, we'd fully expect Chevrolet to unveil it here on our shores in either Chicago or New York. But according to Autoweek, GM is looking to boost export sales of its halo car, and since the C7 was engineered to compete with the world's best and brightest, showing it off in Geneva is somewhat of a smart move. What's more, those with sharp memories will recall that GM used the Geneva expo to debut the sixth-generation C6 Corvette convertible back in March 2004, so there's also a precedent.
Details surrounding the Corvette Stingray convertible are still slim, though we fully expect the 6.2-liter V8 and choice of either six-speed automatic or seven-speed manual transmissions to carry over unchanged. Prototypes spotted on the road showed the car fitted with a cloth convertible roof, as well.

GM to squeeze out more production capacity for midsize trucks

Tue, May 26 2015

General Motors was predicting a strong showing for the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon before they debuted, and demand among dealers for the midsize trucks even exceeded company's expectations. The positive situation has left GM with a problem, though: finding ways to increase capacity for the pickups at the Wentzville Assembly plant in Missiouri. With a third shift already running, GM has continued to look for ways to build just a few more of the trucks at the plant. The company has plans to hire as many as 1,000 more workers for the Saturday and Sunday shifts to construct an additional 2,000 pickups a month, according to unnamed insiders at the factory speaking to Automotive News. The little adjustments even extend to getting rid of an unpaid break to add 18 minute of assembly time over the course of a day, which equals about 3,500 more vehicles a year. All of this effort comes because the trucks are in such high demand. According to GM's figures, the company has delivered a combined 35,720 units of the Colorado and Canyon from January through April 2015, and the Chevy was the fastest-selling truck in the US for the previous three months. In May, it spent an average of just 12 days in showrooms before being snapped up. And even better for the company, 43 percent of these buyers came from other brands. According to Automotive News, the most popular trade-ins have included the Ford F-150, Toyota Tacoma, and Dodge Dakota. Related Video:

Would you pay $17 a month to give your older Ford connectivity?

Fri, Mar 30 2018

When it was first introduced in 2007, there was nothing like the original Ford Sync system, since it allowed car owners to connect and use a portable device better than anything that came before it. And because it was a brought-in/tethered and software-based system, Sync leveraged a device's connectivity and was easily updated. It took competitors awhile to catch up: Toyota Entune wasn't available until 2011, and Chevy MyLink didn't roll out until 2012. But now Ford is the one playing catchup since it stuck with the brought-in strategy while most other automakers were quicker to add connectivity via an embedded cellular modem. Ford initially installed 2G/3G modems in its small fleet of electric and plug-in electric vehicles starting in 2012 so that owners could keep tabs on charging. Embedded connectivity came to Lincoln in 2014, and Ford began adding onboard 4G LTE via Sync Connect to select cars starting with the Escape in 2015. To get more cars connected more quickly, last week the automaker rolled out its FordPass SmartLink solution that plugs into the OBD port of 2010 to 2017 model year vehicles. This lets owners retroactively get onboard Wi-Fi, set up a "geo-fence" to keep tabs on a car's location, receive vehicle health reports and allows remote engine starting and door locking/unlocking using a smartphone app, among other features. But to connect older Ford vehicles will cost owners $16.99 a month for two years, not including installation. Ford throws in 1 GB of data or a 30-day trial, whichever comes first, after which owners have to add the vehicle to their Verizon shared data plan, which supplies connectivity for SmartLink, or establish a new account. (Disclosure: Autoblog is owned by Verizon.) By comparison, GM's 4G LTE data plans start at $10 a month for 200 MB and goes up to $30 for 3 GB, and owners can also add a car to an AT&T shared-data plan. But OnStar doesn't have a separate monthly subscription for the embedded modem or an installation charge, and standard features via the RemoteLink Mobile App are free for the first five years of ownership. FCA's Uconnect Access service also uses an embedded modem to provide similar telematics features for $20 per month following a free one-year trial, while a la carte in-car Wi-Fi is offered for $10 per day, $20 per week or $35 per month.
