Up for auction is my 1966 Impala SS.When I bought this car back in 2006 she had just 60561 actual miles.I purchased it from the nephew of the original owners who inherited it at their passing. This Impala SS was purchased new from Emrick Chevrolet here in Richmond,Va.resided in Charlottesville Va.and is now back in Richmond. It has been kept in a garage or pole barn since new.In the 7 1/2 years I have owned her  she has also been garage kept.In that time I have added a few upgrades (all bolt on) to make it more reliable and driver friendly. These include but are not limited to the following; HEI distributor,"The Right Stuff " Power brake up grade with new booster, master cylinder and proportioning valve, front spindles and discs, rotors and pads, all new brake lines, and a rebuild of the rear drums with wheel cylinders and shoes.I topped her off with synthetic brake fluid which doesn't attract moisture. She will "stop on a dime".I also installed a new fuel tank and sending unit, new fuel lines and fuel pump, and I replaced the original Quadrajet with a new Edlebrock 600 cfm carb for reliability. She has a new radiator and water pump.I installed air shocks on the back(the schraeder is under the liscense plate) and most all of the rubber up front has been replaced.I also replaced the stock exhaust with great sounding duals that complement the V-8.All of this has been done during the 6,000 miles I have driven her. This Impala SS is powered by the original numbers matching 327 V-8 and Powerglide transmission(which was serviced with new filter and fluid). She shifts extremely smooth,Runs great, and handles like it should.I installed a set of vintage style slotted mags wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A's.I also have kept all the original parts I removed with the exception of the exhaust, tank and lines and rubber.these parts will go with the car at sale if wanted by the new owner.

You'll notice I have not mentioned the interior. This Impala has the original interior she rolled off the line with. The headliner is excellent with no rips, tears or discoloration. The carpet is faded in spots but is not overly worn.Even under the mats it looks good. The rubber heel pad as well as the pedal rubber and chrome show only slight wear. You see in one of the pix one of the original build sheets under the carpet by the drivers seat.I have another one that came from under the back seat that is in much better shape. Also notice the seat belt retractors that still roll up the original seat belts. The center console still retains its color matching carpet liner and both inside and outside courtesy lights work. The back seat looks great and door and side panels are in great shape as well. The only place that is in need of repair is the front bucket seats. The passenger seat looks good but the bottom portion of the driver seat vinyl is split. These original style covers are readily available from many aftermarket suppliers(OPGI,Impala Bobs,Ecklers etc.)The dash pad has two thin cracks that run from the speaker area toward the windshield. They are not unsightly and do not detract from the original patina of the interior. The instument panel is very nice and the  green"cold"light still stays on until the engine has warmed up.The radio lights up when on but no sound comes out. With regular driving the clock will even run when it wants to.This Impala has very nice chrome that runs around the interior roofline and glass.Classy.All new roofline and door weatherstrip.A very nice all original interior.

This Impala retains all its original sheetmetal positioned exactly as it was from new.It has never had any rust repair.I stripped the original Wimbleton white paint down to the metal and had it basecoat/clearcoated in GM Arrival blue metallic. The trunk is excellent with the original splatterpaint intact. This is an extremely nice example of an unmolested, well cared for Impala SS.If you want a car you can hop in and drive with no worries this may be for you.I don't drive her enough to justify keeping her and she really needs to be driven and enjoyed by someone who has the time.Bid to Buy and if you have 0 feedback please email me before you bid.Thanks.

Texas sues GM, saying it tricked customers into sharing driving data sold to insurers

Wed, Aug 14 2024

Texas filed a lawsuit Tuesday against GM over years of alleged abuse of customers' data and trust. New car owners were presented with a "confusing and highly misleading" process that was implied to be for their safety, but "was no more than a deceptively designed sales flow" that surrendered their data for GM to sell. The suit contends that at no point was selling driving data ever even suggested as a possibility, putting GM in violation of the state's consumer protection laws. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is seeking a jury trial and at least $10,000 per offense (every GM car sold in the state since 2015) and a hefty add-on of $250,000 in cases where the victim was over 65. Texas seems to be flying high after a recent $1.4 billion settlement from Meta over other privacy concerns. This may well be a way to solve any pending budgetary issues in the Lone Star State.

GM’s move to Woodward is the right one — for the company and for Detroit

Wed, May 1 2024

Back in 2018, Chevy invited me to attend the Detroit Auto Show on the company dime to get an early preview of the then-newly redesigned Silverado. The trip involved a stay at the Renaissance Center — just a quick People Mover ride from the show. IÂ’d been visiting Detroit in January for nearly a decade, and not once had I set foot inside General MotorsÂ’ glass-sided headquarters. I was intrigued, to say the least. Thinking back on my time in the buildings that GM will leave behind when it departs for the new Hudson's site on Woodward Avenue, two things struck me. For one, its hotel rooms are cold in January. Sure, itÂ’s glass towers designed in the 1960s and '70s; I calibrated my expectations accordingly. But when I could only barely see out of the place for all the ice forming on the inside of the glass, it drove home just how flawed this iconic structure is.  My second and more pertinent observation was that the RenCen doesnÂ’t really feel like itÂ’s in a city at all, much less one as populous as Detroit. The complex is effectively severed from its surroundings by swirling ribbons of both river and asphalt. To the west sits the Windsor tunnel entrance; to the east, parking lots for nearly as far as the eye can see. To its north is the massive Jefferson Avenue and to its south, the Detroit River. You get the sense that if Henry Ford II and his team of investors had gotten their way, the whole thing would have been built offshore with the swirling channel doubling as a moat. This isnÂ’t a building the draws the city in; itÂ’s one designed to keep it out. Frost on the inside of the RenCen hotel glass. Contrasted with the new Hudson's project GM intends to move into, a mixed-use anchor with residential, office, retail and entertainment offerings smack-dab in Detroit's most vibrant district, the RenCen is a symbol of an era when each office in DetroitÂ’s downtown was an island in a rising sea of dilapidation. Back then, those who fortified against the rapid erosion of DetroitÂ’s urban bedrock stood the best chance of surviving. This was the era that brought us ugly skyways and eventually the People Mover — anything to help suburban commuters keep their metaphorical feet dry. The RenCen offered — and still offers — virtually any necessity and plenty of nice-to-haves, all accessible without ever venturing outside, especially in the winter, but those enticements are geared to those who trek in from suburbia to toil in its hallways.

New GM subcompact SUV spied, could be a Chevy or GMC

Mon, Aug 13 2018

GM's pair of subcompact crossovers have been trundling along for a while now. The Buick Encore was the first for Americans in the 2013 model year, and the Chevy Trax that was based on the Encore (an encore of the Encore, if you will) arrived for the 2015 model year. Each has undergone a mild update, but these spy photos could indicate their replacements are in the works. Or not. For starters, we can't be sure which GM brand this new SUV is destined for. Though the timing and its flowing lines could indicate Buick, the thick horizontal bars visible in the grille would indicate otherwise. The next Encore being at least related to this is at least a possibility. Making the case for GMC are those thick grille bars, the fact that it extends far below the lights, and may even rise above them, similar to the Acadia. And that rising beltline isn't that different from that of the Acadia. Arguing against the GMC idea is the Encore, which is almost always sold in GMC-Buick combo dealers. Much as the Acadia was made smaller to eliminate confusion and in-house competition with the Enclave, it's hard to see GM opting to resurrect such an issue at the bottom end of the SUV market. That means we're leaning toward this little SUV wearing a Chevy bowtie. The split grille with a large lower section and small upper section is the brand's current design language, as seen on the new Malibus and Cruzes. The shape is vaguely Equinox-like. And like Buick, Chevy also has a subcompact crossover ready for replacement: the Trax. Now, our photographer reports he's seen another subcompact testing that has Blazer design cues, but in this crossover-hungry market, we wouldn't be surprised if two similarly sized but differently styled Chevy crossovers make the grade. It's a strategy that's working pretty well for Jeep. We'll no doubt be seeing more of these disguised test vehicles milling about the country in the coming months, so perhaps we'll eventually get a better idea of what this is before more official information starts trickling out within one or two years.
