This is a 1963 impala SS (real) 409 (not matching) with a 4 speed transmission. The rear differential is a 3.08 non posi. I bought this car 10 years ago from a dealership in Texas. I bought the car in this condition. The car is in very good condition, has been garaged ever since, and very little miles added over the last 10 years. There are no known mechanical issues, I have changed mostly everything mechanical.

What I did to the car:

1.      Swapped out a 283 engine which was not original, to a newly rebuilt 409 engine which I bought from a mechanic in Michigan who had the engine in storage for over 25 years then decided to rebuild it and put it up for sale in 2008. I bought in May of 2008.

2.      New 4 core radiator aluminum, new belts,  hoses and pulleys.

3.      Borgeson power steering box, pump, bracket.

4.      1 inch front sway bar

5.      New tie rod ends, center link

6.      4 new heavy duty springs, 4 QA-1 shocks

7.      16” centerline wheels with BFG tires – 235/60

8.      Edelbrock Carburetor

9.      MSD ignition wired to points distributor, new msd coil + plug wires

10.  New battery

11.  New rear lower control arms – global west

12.  New Y shaped headers with flow master exhaust 40 series

13.  “I did it” collapsible steering column with an aftermarket steering wheel

14.  All new engine bay ground wires and all new POS engine bay wires.

15.  Powermaster 100AMP alternator

16.  New Fuel pump

17.  New Starter

18.  New all 4 drum brakes – these brakes are big, car stops very well!

19.  Car has been thoroughly inspected (4/2014) at a well know local mechanic who works on classic cars. They did the safety inspection sticker, wheel alignment, exhaust, new rear differential gasket + new fluid, fixed some small odds and ends – new cotter pins, rewired a few things in the engine bay etc.

Any issues?

1.      I needed to put in a junction box under the dash for the POS lead from the battery to the fuse box and for other POS leads. This factory sodder was bad and I cannot sodder so I used a junction box to pull all of the leads together.

2.      The front brace of the front seat on drivers and passenger side needs replacing. The rear brace of the front seats are intact as well as the rear seat brace. I bought the 2 braces for each side about 2 feet in length for each side. Ran out of time and money to fix this, I got estimates between 1200-1500 dollars, I would think if I shopped around more I could get a better deal. This was identified when the car was inspected on 4/14.

3.      I never hooked up the lights for the gauge cluster and for the tach – white leads.

I am a car guy and I love working on them, I can tell you anything you want to know about the car since I’ve owned it, I have nothing to hide, please email me at frank1966@optonline.net or call my cell at 914 263 8370 and leave a message and I will return your call. I do prefer email communication for quicker responses. I have explained the car in the most detail as I can, car is for sale as is with no warranty.

Bentley has been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard for reductions of carbon, water use and waste production in manufacturing. The Carbon Trust is an organization that helps groups such as businesses and governments reduce carbon emissions, use of energy and resources, and waste output. From 2011 to 2013, Bentley reduced CO2 emissions by 16 percent per car manufactured, curtailed water use by 35.7 percent, and saw significant waste reductions. Darran Messem of Carbon trust says, "Bentley is clearly passionate about continuing to improve its environmental performance, which is reflected by the fact the company has consistently invested in new technology." Read more in the press release below. Chevrolet is giving 12 Volts to MBAs Across America. The organization will use the range-extended electric cars in its efforts to help MBA students learn from and work with small business owners. As part of the MBAs Across America program's first year, four students drove 8,000 miles to provide entrepreneurs with free business counseling. The program has expanded, and this year, teams of MBAs will use the Volts to travel to 25 cities to offer their services. Learn more about the partnership between Chevrolet and MBAs Across America in the press release below. A professor from the University of Michigan has found fuel cycle analysis to be too flawed to be relied upon for measuring CO2 impacts of transportation fuels. Professor John DeCicco of the university's Energy Institute feels that the flaws in calculating the carbon footprint of liquid fuel production and combustion make such lifecycle analysis impractical. He suggests, instead, to focus to carbon capture. Since capturing CO2 directly from a vehicle is probably never going to happen, DiCicco believes the solution is to capture carbon from the atmosphere in sectors outside of transportation. Says DiCicco, "Research should be ramped up on options for increasing the rate at which CO2 is removed from the atmosphere and on programs to manage and utilize carbon fixed in the biosphere, which offers the best CO2 removal mechanism now at hand. Such strategies can complement measures that control the demand for liquid fuels by reducing travel activity, improving vehicle efficiency and shifting to non-carbon fuels." Should heavy-duty pickup trucks have window stickers with fuel mileage estimates?

Sat, Sep 23 2017

If you were to stroll into your nearest Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Nissan, or Ram dealership, you'd find a bunch of pickup trucks. Most of those would have proper window stickers labeled with things like base prices, options prices, location of manufacture, and, crucially, fuel economy estimates. But you'd also run across a number of heavy-duty trucks with no such fuel mileage data from the Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA doesn't require automakers to publish the valuable miles-per-gallon measurement for vehicles with gross weight ratings that exceed 8,500 pounds. That makes it difficult for consumers to compare behemoths powered by turbocharged diesel engines – between one another, and between smaller, gasoline-fueled trucks. Consumer Reports doesn't think it should be this way, and it's spearheading an effort (PDF link) to get the government to require manufacturers to publish fuel economy estimates. In its own testing, CR found that heavy-duty pickups powered by Ford's Power Stroke, GM's Duramax, and FCA's Cummins diesel engines (which doesn't include the Ram's EcoDiesel) get worse fuel mileage than their lighter-duty gas-powered siblings. We're not so sure HD-truck buyers are unaware of this fact Β– big diesels don't really come into their own until big loads are placed in their beds or attached to their trailer hitches. Under heavy workloads, the diesel trucks will almost certainly return greater efficiency than a similar gas-powered truck. What's more, HD trucks with lumbering diesels in general make the driver feel more confident while towing due to greater torque at low engine RPM than gas trucks. They also offer greater max-weight limits. Still, we agree EPA fuel mileage estimates should be offered for heavy-duty pickups. And we think the comparisons provided by Consumer Reports might be interesting to potential buyers. Click here to see the results of CR's tests, and let us know what you think using the poll below. GM is the latest automaker accused of diesel emissions cheating

Thu, May 25 2017

Volkswagen and Ram need to make room on the diesel-emissions bench for General Motors. America's largest automaker was accused in a lawsuit on Thursday of rigging hundreds of thousands of diesel trucks with at least three so-called defeat devices to ensure that the trucks would meet federal and state emission standards, even if they generated more pollution in real-world driving. According to the complaint, on-road emissions testing conducted for the plaintiffs found that Duramax-equipped trucks produced NOx pollutants, comprised of nitrogen and oxygen atoms, two to five times higher than legally permitted, and "many times" higher than their gasoline counterparts. The proposed class-action lawsuit was filed in federal court in Detroit on behalf of people who own or lease more than 705,000 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks fitted with "Duramax" engines from 2011 to 2016 model years. The lawsuit seeks remedies including possible refunds or restitution for lost vehicle value, plus punitive damages. It adds to legal problems for Detroit-based GM, which has already paid about $2.5 billion in penalties and settlements over faulty ignition switches linked to 124 deaths. GM joins at least five automakers whose diesel emissions have been scrutinized by regulators or consumers. They include VW, which has admitted to cheating; Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler; Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Peugeot and Renault. GM spokesman Dan Flores called the claims "baseless," and said the trucks comply with US Environmental Protection Agency emissions standards and California's own tough standards. Shares of GM were down 69 cents, or 2.1 percent, at $32.50 in afternoon trading, after earlier falling to $31.93. The GM lawsuit was filed by several law firms, including Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro, which helped reach multibillion-dollar settlements with VW on behalf of drivers and dealers. The case is Fenner et al v General Motors LLC et al, US District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, No. 17-11661. The named plaintiffs are Andrei Fenner of Mountain View, California and Joshua Herman of Sulphur, Louisiana. They said they would not have bought their respective 2011 Sierra and 2016 Silverado trucks, or would have paid less for them, had they known about the alleged rigging. Joseph Spak, an RBC Capital Markets analyst, in a research report said "negative publicity" from the lawsuit could drive buyers to trucks from Ford or even Fiat Chrysler's Ram.
