I hate to get rid of this car but my twins are 16 and they need space in the garage. I moved the car to a storage place last month until I can sell the car. It's time to go to a new home. I've been struggling with selling this car for 2 years but now it's time. So here goes!

I purchased the car in 4/2005 restored by a gentleman from 2002-2005. He passed away when the car had only 243 miles on it and his wife then sold it. With the car shI received all the receipts from the restoration as well as some spare pieces I will give the new owner. After I purchased it I added front disc brakes with a twin master cylinder. I also added power assist steering. I replaced the hubcaps it was originally sold with the current Torque Thrust 2 wheels and new tires with a nicer pattern. I redid the trunk to match the restoration and also added an electric fan for those hot summer days. The car starts, runs and drives perfect. Just added a new battery. The car has sat in my heated garage since purchased only driving to an occasional car show when we first got it (It won many first place trophies) and just around town. The car turns heads EVERYWHERE and is a lot of fun to drive. The guy that did the restoration has the 348 flags on the hood but the car is actually a 283. It has a 4 Barrel holley carburetor.

So here it is for sale, the mileage on it now is 3,319 and that's it since the restoration. The car has sat long enough in the garage I think it needs to go to a good home where someone else can enjoy it.

So what's wrong with it? Well, I'm not the kind of guy who will lie to get a sale, there are a couple things that need attention.

  • The drivers and passenger side windows don't roll all the way up and seal. I never fixed it frankly because the car never went out in the rain. In fact I had some issues when I first got it with the wiper motor so I removed it and the wiper arms. I hated the way the wiper arms ruined the look of the car.
  • The fuel gauge has been acting up. I believe it may be a sending unit at this point, not a big deal to repair but it does need attention.
  • Paint is bright and beautiful but in taking the car out of storage I noticed some very small rust beginning to form under the drivers door. I also noticed a paint bubble on the passenger side door. Both will need to be addressed soon to prevent bigger issues.
  • The horn doesn't work

This beautiful car is waiting for a new owner to hop in and drive it to the ice cream shop. You'll definitely meet some new friends with this car, I did.

I have offered this car for sale using the auction style because I don't really know what it's worth. I know I love the car but that doesn't translate to money. I have a dollar figure in mind that I would like to get but I will not disclose that reserve price. I will tell you it is substantially less than I paid because I believe the few issues the car has impact the price significantly.  I also want to see it go to someone else and use the money for college for my boys (I'm gonna need it).

Both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay slated for Chevrolet lineup

Wed, May 27 2015

Long awaited, the race among automakers to keep drivers connected to their smartphones has officially entered a new era. Hyundai said Tuesday it would be the first manufacturer to put Google's Android Auto into a production car, the 2015 Hyundai Sonata sedan. Not to be outdone, General Motors said today it'd offer both Android Auto and Apple's CarPlay on several Chevrolet models set to hit dealerships this summer. By giving car buyers the choice between these rival phone-projection systems, Chevrolet hopes to quell concerns from prospective customers worried about the compatibility of their smartphones and vehicles. "It's about providing choice," said Alicia Boler-Davis, GM's senior vice president for global connected car consumer experience. "No two customers are alike, and we cannot expect a single solution that works for every driver in every situation." Across the industry, automakers are rushing to add both to their cars as a growing base of customers seek an array of connected features. Estimates from automotive technology research firm SBD indicate smartphone-integrated content is available in 36 percent of current vehicles, and the company expects that penetration rate will grow to 84 percent by 2025. For Chevrolet, the systems will be available on select 2016 iterations of the Cruze, Camaro, Volt, Spark and Malibu as early as next month, and appear on 14 Chevy models overall for the 2016 model year. They're available on all trim levels, but they only work with the company's MyLink infotainment package installed in the cars, and the first to hit showrooms will only work on the seven-inch touchscreen models. "CarPlay and Android Auto, these are things that are addressable to the broad market, and I think it makes a lot of sense for GM to put it into Chevys first," IHS Automotive senior analyst Mark Boyadjis said. Via physical connections, both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto allow users access to smartphone features like turn-by-turn directions, phone calls, voice-to-text messages and music streaming. Interfaces are similar to the ones found on the respective smartphones, but on the dashboard, they're redesigned for a simpler, in-car experience. Fonts are larger, for example, and easier to press on a touchscreen. CarPlay relies heavily on Siri so that drivers spend more time staring at the road instead of their touchscreen. That sounds good, at least in theory.

2014 Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra full configurators truck in

Sat, 15 Jun 2013

You can now put prices to your wildest option-sheet dreams of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. A microsite for the full-size pickup truck twins has been up since January, and now the full-blown configurator is live and ready to take your virtual orders. The only two chassis configurations available at the moment are the Crew Cab with either a short or standard bed - Regular and Double Cab versions will come later. In Silverado flavors that will run you $32,710 for the short box, $33,010 for the standard box, while the Sierra adds a $1,500 premium to both of those prices, and destination and handling for both models adds another $995.
Since these are American pickups the list of modifications is lengthy, but we added $11,450 in just two steps by starting with the Silverado Crew Cab and standard bed, then checking four-wheel drive and the LTZ Z71 package. Our final truck, resplendent in Brownstone Metallic paint, heated and cooled Cocoa/Dune perforated leather seating and tasty details like chrome recovery hooks, and engine block heater and LED cargo box lighting, rang up $57,285 at the candy store.
They'll be on dealer lots sometime this summer, so now's a good time to start practicing your box-checking.

A conversation with GM's Mark Reuss on MPG, aluminum and Corvettes

Wed, Feb 19 2014

There was plenty to talk about when General Motors hosted its annual mid-December holiday media reception a few months ago. GM had just decided to pull its global Chevrolet brand out of major European markets, where Chevys have competed directly with GM Europe Opel and Vauxhall vehicles, and the US government had sold its last remaining shares of GM stock. But most important was the company's just-reshuffled leadership. Post-bankruptcy CEO Dan Akerson had announced that he would step aside and that 52-year-old Mary Barra would replace him on January 15. Not only would she be the first woman to lead a major automaker, she would also be GM's first engineer CEO since Bob Stempel in the early 1990s. "I look at 2013 and 2014, as the retooling of General Motors" - Mark Reuss Replacing her as executive VP for global product development (and purchasing and supply chain) would be 49-year-old Mark Reuss, who had served a stellar four years as North American president, and elevated to corporate president (from executive VP and CFO) would be 42-year-old Dan Amman. All three are relatively young auto enthusiasts who are liked and respected inside and outside the company, and their collective talents and experience are highly complementary. I've interviewed Barra and found her smart, personable and knowledgeable, though she carefully walks the corporate line in speaking and answering questions. I met and chatted with Ammann for the first time at that holiday reception, and he made a good first impression. But I've known Reuss for some time as a genuinely good guy and a highly capable and inspiring leader, and I believe he is exactly the right person for the global product responsibility once famously held by the outspoken, oft-controversial Bob Lutz. So I jumped at an opportunity to join a group interview of Reuss (with mostly business reporters) at the Detroit Auto Show in January. It was an interesting session of mostly good questions, which he answered with refreshing candor and humor. "I look at 2013 and 2014, as the retooling of General Motors," Reuss said. "We've taken down almost every plant in North America, converted and turned it this last year, and to do that with award-winning vehicles and pretty flawless launches is key. We have to keep the train rolling on great product, because the rest won't happen without the best product, period." A reporter asked whether GM was pushing big trucks, SUVs and Corvettes again because gas is cheap. "No," Reuss said.
