2004 Chevy Express LS full size (not extended body), 12 passenger van, modified inside (to a lesser degree) to a 5 passenger. I bought it new with a list price of $32,700, it has a $2800 1SB extra package with power options and other extras (I show the original sticker price window tag and other factory paperwork, showing all options, in the pictures). The van has 128,817 miles on it, I have never had any problem with the engine, drive train or anything major aside of the transmission which most likely needs a rebuild or a replacement (I have no reason to think otherwise but cannot be sure, of course). The only reason I am not fixing it is because I dont have the money and I dont need the work aspect of the van anymore.
The 6.0 Liter Vortec engine has been regularly serviced at about 6,000 mile intervals.
The van is a 1 ton or a 3500 (the heaviest load capacity available) and it has heavy duty springs, its sits up as high as when it was new. The motor is very strong, even with the weigh it was very powerful, I am told this motor is something special (in fact I looked this motor up at one point fairly recently and found that the same motor, with a few more miles, had sold on ebay for $1600 plus). The rear end is heavy duty locking and has a 3.73 gear ratio and leaks no oil, nor does the engine or transmission. The engine starts right up, sounds normal, the muffler system was also largely replaced fairly recently, there are no odd sounds coming from the motor or anywhere else (you can start it up when you look at it of course). I always had whatever it needed done right away. The brakes were recently done completely (every single break part was replaced! at a cost of $2200, by a long time trusted mechanic), this was only needed due to the extra weight (tools, hardware etc.) I was carrying (it was certainly not necessary to replace every part but it was suggested because of the other parts being done and I always kept it up well). It had normal break work done a little sooner than usual but again, the weight was a factor...there is nothing wrong with them...When I stopped driving it all functions of the van were fine, its ready to go after the transmission is corrected. In fact it drives and rides maybe as well as new (I am picky about those things), I was the only driver, there are no noises, everything is tight, steering, suspension. Again, I took very good care of the van...I never even got stuck with a breakdown. There havent been any accidents requiring body work, just bumper related stuff...The headlights had that typical haze which reduces the brightness and looks crappy, so I just installed new headlights and all the other lights work (I just checked them). I replaced the wipers, the battery was fairly new but I am told when it sits and is not used all the time it can go dead, so dont count on much there, but when I hook up the jumper cables it starts right up after a minutes time and I have been starting and running it regularly.

The only other problem is with the side doors, I had them fixed once and was only charged $100 (but apparently that was because it was a quick fix which didnt last that long). Apparently they need hinge pins, the hinges are not bent or damaged but the gap between the doors is very close and I dont use them because it got so difficult to get them closed after a while...I recommend not opening them until you are ready to fix the problem. I even disengaged the power locks (just by blocking the connection in the door jamb) so they wouldnt unlock and get opened inadvertently. You can see in the pictures that there is a bigger gap on the right door (where it meets the front door) leading me to believe that it is likely only that door that needs attention. I would think it shouldn't be a very expensive repair but I never pursued it either. One of the extras that come with the van is a spray can of the same paint color, I show a touch up in the pics over the back wheel well which just started to rust due to a past scrape (I didnt even bondo it, I just sanded it) and you dont even see it unless you really look, so you should be able to touch up the hinge repair quite acceptably without having to pay a body shop to paint everything, saving a lot of money of course.

Here are some other details which only really pertain if you intend to use the van...There is only one key but I have spare remote start/lock remotes as well as the original key-less entry (door lock) remotes. Actually, I had the remote start system programmed to unlock the rear door only (when you pressed a certain button)...it can be set up however you want but there is no reason to do that, it otherwise works normally (you can set it up to open windows etc.). I did this so I could open the rear doors for work, and not open everything up for security reasons...It is a nice remote start system. I also have a fake alarm light on the dash, in plain sight, which blinks red when the van is shut off...I dont like the 'waste of time' noise part of an alarm system and the light is all that is deterring that type of car thief anyway...I have all paperwork to most everything (remote start), stereo parts, radio, amps, speakers, roof racks etc., as well as the vans manual and other paperwork.
The van, being a 12 passenger, had rear A/C and heat, in separate units with separate switches. The heater took up important space in the back and the A/C unit which was located inside the rear doors on the ceiling, and since there wasnt enough room to stand up sheets of plywood, so I had to remove that as well
(neither was needed back there anyway). I dont see any reason that they could not be hooked back up if you find the units (I dont have those or the 2 (of 3) rear seats. The removal of these 2 units was done professionally and the systems were adjusted under the hood to allow for the removed units. This was done soon after I bought it and I have never had any problem with the heat or A/C. Because the A/C unit was removed, there is a piece of the head lining missing inside the rear doors, which doesnt affect anything and is not noticed from the front...that is shown in the pictures.
There is a nice Nevlen metal cabinet/rack on the left side, there are 24 drawers and a couple new extra drawers and dividers. The cabinet is very secure and I just made sure the screws were all tightened up as well for noise etc. (I will remove the roof rack and the rack inside if you have no use for them (the interior panel under the window, behind the rack inside is missing, which only matters if you remove the rack of course, it could be replaced easily after finding one...you could also fix the 'ceiling A/C removal void' and the missing panel, easy enough with thin painted plywood etc). I could also remove the stereo system components if desired, it is quite powerful (no doubt scary to some) and if you are not 'into' that 'electronic' type stuff and something needs replacing (fuse) or an adjustment etc. (not typical but happens occasionally with these systems), it could become more of a nuisance than an extra. (NOTE: I cannot do any removal or alterations until we are quite sure it is a done deal as it would affect another type buyer and a future sale). Also, to avoid anyone seeing all the tools in the cabinet through the window, I painted the inside of the long rear window black (the glass is dark enough to begin with and that makes it so that you cannot tell from the outside (see pics), or the inside for that matter (with the racks in place of course)...this latex paint will come off with a razor blade easy enough and I did it neatly in cd a
ase it wasnt needed anymore (I could remove this and clean it all up as well).
There is a full size spare under the rear or the van, the jack is all there an
n additional 4-way tire iron. The rear brake lights have been replaced with aftermarket lights...One light broke and it was too difficult to find a replacement and too costly to buy one from the dealer (this was done long enough (5 years?) ago so you know the lights are not cheap and are going to fade out or look bad in a years time). The rear door handle, from the inside, is loose or maybe even broken but still works, and the rear door panels which I had removed and stored could stand some new clips or a few small screws if you wanted it to hold on better, it doesnt fall of but is loose (I can do this as well...that is, make those panels hold very well with some well placed small screws, very neat). The body is sound, there are a few minor dents but they are not big enough to stand out really, you can see every part of the van in the pictures. There is no rust to speak of, the front bumper is dented but I straightened it out and evened it up, and it can always be replaced, of course. The interior is very clean and complete, no damage etc (correction, the glove box door under the cup holder area is loose but still works and can be adjusted to work properly (I didnt do that and the rear door handle in case it was being scrapped etc., because it is a little more involved) but again, if you are doing other things to make it nice inside then I may as well could do those too). On the passenger side airbag the dash is bubbled a bit, it came like that from the factory.
There is some extra incidentals (not shown) that will be included plus all the paperwork for, and anything to do with the van (racks, stereo etc).
The 'System One' roof rack system is top shelf, I paid $600 for the rack system itself and it served me well. It is all aluminum and stainless steel which is why it is still so nice. It has 4 ratcheting tie downs which are easy to use, quick and effective. It comes with 4 wrenches...I show inside the drivers door, where I store one wrench on each side, they fit perfectly in this spot and are easy to get and you always have one on either side. I also have all the optional parts that I didnt use, ladder pegs etc.
As for payment...cash is preferred, of course...also, please dont attempt to pick things apart to get the agreed price down, everything is shown or explained and I just wont do it unless it happens to be very reasonable. I am located in Woburn MA 01801 Phone: Dave 617 780 9879. I am available most anytime for you to pick it up. Dont hesitate to ask any questions and thanks for looking.

The Army goes off-roading with a hydrogen Chevy Colorado

Sun, Nov 22 2015

The Chevrolet Colorado is joining the service. General Motors is working with the US Army Tank Automotive Research, Development & Engineering Center (TARDEC) to build a Colorado powered by a commercial hydrogen fuel cell stack, and the Army will use it in "extremes of daily military use for 12 months." TARDEC is the department that tests "advanced military automotive technology" and integrates them into ground systems. The aim is to see how well the benefits of a fuel cell vehicle can be adapted to the battlefield; hydrogen-powered vehicles are quiet, torquey, produce water, and can be used to provide electricity in the field. GM says the design sketch above "foreshadows" the Colorado that will go to boot camp and beyond, making it clear that this won't be the average midsize pickup. The press release below has more. Related Video: GM and U.S. Army to Demonstrate Extreme Off-Road Hydrogen Fuel Cell Chevrolet Colorado Agreement focused on proving unique utility and viability of fuel cell propulsion WARREN, Mich. 2015-11-19 – General Motors and the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development & Engineering Center (TARDEC) are modifying a Chevrolet Colorado midsize pickup truck to run on a commercial hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system and will expose the truck to the extremes of daily military use for 12 months. "Hydrogen fuel cell technology is important to GM's advanced propulsion portfolio, and this enables us to put our technology to the test in a vehicle that will face punishing military duty cycles," said Charlie Freese, executive director of GM's Global Fuel Cell Engineering activities. Fuel cell propulsion has very high low-end torque capability useful in off-road environments. It also offers exportable electric power and quiet operation, attractive characteristics to both commercial and military use. "The potential capabilities hydrogen fuel cell vehicles can bring to the Warfighter are extraordinary, and our engineers and scientists are excited about the opportunity to exercise the limits of this demonstrator," said TARDEC Director Paul Rogers. "FCVs are very quiet vehicles, which scouts, special operators and other specialties place a premium," he said. "What's more, fuel cells generate water as a by-product, something extremely valuable in austere environments." GM and TARDEC have fuel cell development and research facilities located 20 minutes apart in Pontiac and Warren, Mich.

24 Hours of Le Mans live update part two

Sun, Jun 19 2016

We tasked surfing journalist Rory Parker to watch this year's live stream of the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans. What follows is an experiment to experience the world's greatest endurance race from the perspective of a motorsports novice. Parker lives in Hawaii and can hold his breath longer than he can go without swearing. For Part One, click here. Or you can skip ahead to Part Three here. I write about surfing for a living. If you can call it a living. Basically means I spend my days fucking around and my wife pays for everything. Because she's got a real job that pays well. Brings home the bacon. Very progressive arrangement. Super twenty first century. I run a surf website, beachgrit.com, with two other guys. It's a strange gig. More or less uncensored. Kind of popular. Very good at alienating advertisers. My behavior has cost us a few bucks. I'm terrible at self-censorship. Know there's a line out there, no idea where it lies. I still don't understand any of the technical side. Might as well be astrophysics or something. For contests I do long rambling write ups. They rarely make much sense. Mainly just talk about my life, whatever random thoughts pop into my head. "Can you do something similar for Le Mans?" "Sure, but I know absolutely fuck-all about racing." "That's okay. Just write what you want." "Will do. But you're gonna need to edit my stuff. Probably censor it heavily." So here I am. I spent the last week trying to learn all I can about the sport of endurance racing. But there's only so much you can jam in your head. And I still don't understand any of the technical side. Might as well be astrophysics or something. While I rambled things were happening. Tracy Krohn spun into the gravel on the Forza chicane. #89 is out of the race after an accident I missed. Pegasus racing hit the wall on the Porsche curves. Bashed up front end, in the garage getting fixed. Toyota and Porsche are swapping back and forth in the front three. Ford back in the lead in GTE Pro. #91 Porsche took a stone through the radiator, down two laps. Not good. The wife and I are one of those weird childless couples that spend way too much time caring for the needs of their pet. French bulldog, Mr Eugene Victor Debs. Great little guy. Spent the last four years training him to be obedient and friendly. Nice thing about dogs, when you're sick of dealing with them you can just lock 'em in another room for a few hours. You don't need to worry about paying for college.

GM global sales off slightly this year

Fri, Oct 16 2015

General Motors saw a slight dip in global sales through the first nine months of the year. In that time, the automaker moved 7.2 million vehicles – down 1.3 percent from 2014. For the third quarter alone, the numbers were down 3.1 percent with a worldwide volume of 2.3 million. The automaker had a better performance in North America, as Chevrolet is showing strength with some of its best crossover sales ever, and pickup trucks were up 16 percent for the year. Volume on the continent advanced 4.9 percent through September to nearly 2.7 million vehicles. The third quarter improved that figure even further with a 5.2-percent jump and deliveries of about 931,000. Elsewhere in the world, things were more mixed in the third quarter. European deliveries jumped 1.1 percent, but the company was still down 6.3 percent there for the year so far. Volume in China also fell 4.2 percent, but the country showed 1.6-percent growth through the first nine months. South America took the biggest, hit with Q3 numbers dropping 30.8 percent. While GM is seeing a small sales drop globally, the company could still climb up the ranking of the world's largest automakers by the end of the year. Volkswagen had the top spot in the first half of 2015, but since then, the German company has been rocked by an international emissions scandal. GM Sold 7.2 Million Vehicles in the First Nine Months of 2015 DETROIT – General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) sold 7.2 million vehicles globally in the first nine months of 2015. The company posted sales increases in four of its five largest markets, with record sales in China and strong retail sales gains in the United States. Total sales were down 1 percent, due primarily to the company's previously announced decisions to strategically reduce its presence in certain markets, as well as difficult market conditions in South America. "Our unwavering focus on the customer is paying off in our largest and most important markets as we execute one successful launch after another in the right segments," said GM President Dan Ammann. "At the same time, we have reacted quickly to challenging macroeconomic environments in other markets and have shown the discipline to exit situations where we see no long-term path to acceptable returns." Examples of GM's recent success include: GM truck sales in North America were up 16 percent in the first nine months of 2015, driven by a 17 percent increase in Chevrolet truck deliveries in the United States.
