2004 Chevy Express LS full size, 12 passenger van, modified (to a small degree) to a 5 passenger but you can remove the rear bench for a full work van, of course. I bought it new with a list price of $32,700, it has a $2800 1SB extra package with power options and other extras (I show the original sticker price window tag with most all of options), use the link at the bottom of the page to see all the pics. The van has 128,817 miles on it, I have never had any problem with the engine, drive train or anything major except for the transmission, in case it matters, it went very quickly...within 100? miles after showing signs. The only reason I am not fixing it is because I just dont have the money and I dont need the work aspect of the van anymore.
The 6.0 Liter Vortec motor has been regularly serviced at about 6,000 mile intervals. The brakes were recently done completely (every single break part was replaced! at the cost of $2200, by a long time trusted mechanic), I believe this was only needed due to the weight I was carrying in tools and supplies...drawers full of screws etc. It was packed, I carried everything, as I did all kinds of light carpentry and handyman type work and was never sure of what I was doing, or when, and I always needed odd hardware. It had break work done quite a few times but most was typical pads? (the brakes are all disc) but again, the weight was a factor, there is nothing wrong with them and all functions of the van are fine at this point, its ready to go, after the transmission work, of course.
It is a 1 ton or a 3500 (the heaviest load capacity available) and I believe it has heavy duty spring as well, it is not tired, it still sits as new. The motor is very strong, even with all the weight, it was very powerful. The rear end is heavy duty locking and has a 3.73 gear ratio and leaks no oil, nor does the engine. The engine starts right up, its quiet, the muffler system was also largely replaced fairly recently and there are no odd sounds coming from the motor or anywhere else (you can start it up when you look at it of course). I always had whatever it needed done right away.
The only other problem is with the side doors, I had them fixed once and was only charged $100 (but apparently that was because it was a quick fix which didnt hold long). Apparently they need hinge pins, the hinges are not bent or damaged (so it shouldn't be a very expensive repair) but the gap between the doors is very close and I dont use them because it got so difficult to get them closed after a while...I recommend not opening them until you are ready to fix it, again, it was very hard, it took 2 guys! I even disengaged the locks (just by blocking the connection in the door jamb) so they wouldnt unlock with the remote and someone open them unknowingly, again, I dont believe there needs to be any body work done except maybe touch up the hinges after the repair. That is one of the extras that come with the van, a spray can of the exact paint color, so you could do that yourself if you wanted. In fact I show a touch up in the pics over the back wheel well which just started to rust due to a scrape (I didnt even bondo it, I just sanded it) and you cant even see it unless you really look, which means the paint hasnt faded either...I guess. There havent been any accidents requiring body work, just bumper related stuff and even that isnt a very big deal...The headlights had that typical haze which reduces the brightness, I installed new headlights and all lights work, I replaced the wipers, the battery is fairly new, I have been running it since it has been off the road every couple weeks but I was told that in those conditions it could run the battery down and maybe to the point of replacement. When I hook up the jumper cables it starts right up after maybe a minutes time. Also, there is only one key but I have spare remote start/lock remotes as well as the original key-less entry remotes. I have all paperwork to everything, Stereo parts, radio, amps, speakers, roof racks etc., as well as the vans manual and other paperwork.
The van, being a 12 passenger, had rear rear A/C and heat in separate units with separate switches. The heater took up important space (and neither was necessary for me anyway) and the A/C unit which was located inside the rear doors on the ceiling...I couldnt stand up sheets of plywood so I had too remove that as well. The removal of these 2 units was done professionally and the systems were adjusted under the hood to adjust for the removed units. I have never had any problems with the sealed supply ends or with the heat or A/C at all. There is a piece of the head lining missing inside the rear doors, which doesnt affect anything and it could be covered with something if desired (painted thin plywood etc.).
Here are some other details which only really pertain if you intend to use the van...there is a nice Nevlen metal cabinet/rack on the left side, there are 24 drawers some I sectioned off with the supplied dividers but I caulked them in so that nails or whatever dont creep under and mix (you can see those in one of the pics too), I have 2 new extra drawers and extra dividers. The cabinet is very secure I did a good job on the install and I just made sure the screws were all tightened up as well. Also to avoid anyone seeing all the tools in the cabinet (even though the glass is already dark), I painted the inside of the long rear window black, it does not show from the outside, or the inside for that matter. This latex paint would come off with a razor blade easy enough and I did it neatly in case it wasnt needed anymore.
There is a full size spare under the rear or the van, the jack is all there and an additional 4-way tire iron. The rear brake lights have been replaced with aftermarket lights...The right light broke and it was too difficult to find a replacement and too costly to buy another one from the dealer...I think they are a nice touch myself. You will see under the same right taillight on th plastic corner a small piece missing from when it broke. The rear door handle from the inside is loose, maybe broken but still works, and the rear door panels which I had removed and stored could stand some new clips or a few small screws if you wanted it (the left door is worse) to hold on better, it doesnt fall of but is kind of loose (I can do that if you want...the screws that is). The body is nice but there are a few minor dents but they arent big enough to stand out really. Actually the side doors have a bit of minor denting? There is no rust to speak of, the front bumper is dented a bit but it is straight and it is a replaceable bumper, of course though fixing it is not necessary (see pics). You can see the whole van in the pictures, very well. The interior is very clean and complete, no damage etc., the cloth drivers seat is not even ripped...On the passenger side airbag the dash is bubbled a bit, it came like that from the factory. I show pictures of everything, sometimes from different angles (my son thinks I am crazy for putting so much time into this, taking 50 pictures of everything, but...its done and I hope it makes a difference to someone). Basically I took very good care of the van and again no problems except the tranny, I never even got stuck with a breakdown. Other than this info you can see every bit of the van as well for other details.
Also see in the pictures you will see all extra stuff that will be included, all the paperwork for anything to do with the van (racks, stereo etc). I know someone may scrap it for the engine etc., and I am selling it for less than I could or should get but it would be a shame to scrap it, it is in good condition and has many miles left on it.
It is an unusual setup but it has always worked well for me as a nice family van and for work as well.
The 'System One' roof rack system is top shelf, I paid $600 for the rack system alone (no installation) and it served me well. It is all aluminum which is why it is still so nice. It is not rated to fill up with tons of weight like pressure treated lumber but I have carried plenty of quite heavy loads decking etc. (more than it is rated for). The thing is to keep the weight away from the middle as much as possible keep it more to the sides...I think that is the only reason it is rated for less weight, for people that would load up and stress the middle of the aluminum cross pieces. It has 4 ratcheting tie downs which are easy to use, quick and effective. It comes with 4 wrenches...I show inside the front drivers door, where I store one wrench on each side, they fit perfectly in this spot and are easy to get and you always have one on either side. I also have all optional parts that I didnt use, ladder pegs etc., and the paperwork. I will remove the racks, and things like the stereo system, if you are buying it for parts, and you dont want to pay for them, you can save some money that way but for the price I am selling it for it wont be too much.
As for payment...either way is fine...(cash or paypal only), but please dont set up a price and then come back with little complaints and try to talk me down, I absolutely hate that and wont do it. I am located in Woburn MA 01801 Phone: Dave 617 780 9879 and I am available most anytime to come see the van. I doubt it but if I left anything out dont hesitate to ask me and feel free to make an offer, (as long as it is not ridiculous) you never know.  Thanks for looking.

Chevy Bolt EV might not come to UK

Tue, Sep 22 2015

Anyone expecting the upcoming James Bond movie to feature scenes with the suave namesake cruising around London in a Chevrolet Bolt (yes, there are some of us around) will likely be disappointed. That's because it is apparently doubtful that the General Motors flagship division will make right-hand-drive versions of the electric vehicle for the UK. So we'll have to suffice with the dashing spy ripping around town in Aston Martins and the like. The UK's Autocar reported from the Frankfurt Auto Show and quoted a Chevrolet spokeswoman saying the Bolt with be "a global vehicle," though she wasn't more specific, or specific enough for the British. Indeed, GM is prepping to sell the Bolt in the US and will also distribute the EV in Europe with an Opel nameplate. This is how it worked with the Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in (known as Opel Ampera across the Pond). That said, the fine citizens of the UK will be left out of the opportunity to buy the electric vehicle, which may make a pretty big splash thanks to a single-charge range of about 200 miles, or more than double anything that's not a Tesla Model S. The Bolt will sell in the US for $37,500 before government incentives kick in. It was announced this past February that the Bolt will go into production at GM's Orion plant near Detroit at some point. For a time, GM thought of changing the name because of potential confusion with the Chevy Volt, but GM confirmed this past spring that the name will stick. The car is expected to go on sale in 2017. 2016 Chevy Colorado grabs Motor Trend Truck of the Year award

Tue, Nov 17 2015

It's not an easy feat to win Motor Trend Truck of the Year twice in a row, but the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado managed to do just that. Thanks to the introduction of the 2.8-liter Duramax four-cylinder diesel, the magazine decided to bring the pickup back to defend the title. In more good news for the Bowtie brand, the 2016 Camaro earned the magazine's Car of the Year award. The Colorado beat a tough group of finalists to earn the nod this year, including its GMC Canyon sibling. The Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra also made this year's list. The Nissan Titan XD and latest Toyota Tacoma rounded out the challengers. A model had to shine in six criteria to earn the title: advancement in design, engineering excellence, safety, efficiency, value, and performance of intended function. Like it did with the Camaro, Motor Trend posted a story online that explained the rationale for picking the Colorado again. They praised the diesel profusely and lauded the whole platform as quite a capable hauler. This year's Motor Trend SUV of the Year honor went to the Volvo XC90. The Swedish 'ute had to win against an initial group of 16 candidates that the magazine eventually whittled down to finalists that consisted of the Honda Pilot, Lincoln MKX, the combined Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class and GLE Coupe, and Nissan Murano. "Seven-passenger people movers aren't supposed to drive like this," senior features editor Jonny Lieberman said about the Volvo in the announcement of the champions. The Honda CR-V won last year. In the explanation online, the judges applauded the XC90's new modular platform, and they loved both the T6 twin-charged engine and T8 hybrid version. The SUV's key enamored the writers, too.
