1960 Chevrolet Corvette Base on 2040-cars
Mineola, Texas, United States
I am always available by mail at: jewellshekels@juno.com .
I purchased this car in 2009 and at the time of my purchase the car had zero miles on the restoration. I have put
less than 100 miles on the car since my purchase in 2009.
At first glance, the car appears to have had a very technical, by the book, frame off restoration. That is until
you raise the hood and look at the power train components. (See Power Train Details below).
The quality of the fiber glass components of the first generation Corvettes were not up to the standards of the
later generation Corvettes. All of the doors and panels on this car were trued to the body before any paint work
was performed. All chrome components of the car were either replaced or re-chromed. All new stainless trim was
installed along with all new interior, carpets, door panels, dash and seats. All new glass and rubber components
were installed. All hinges were either restored or were replaced with NOS. All new NOS bolts throughout. New
brakes, and new stainless steel brake lines, The suspension system was completely restored with new components.
Please spend some time reviewing the pictures of the underside of this car. Please note that the leaf springs have
a canvas insert installed between each leaf spring. I have yet to see a frame off restoration where the springs
were restored to this level of detail.
This week I have had all of the door rubber seals replaced with new rubber and a high quality glue as the original
seals were coming lose in some places.
Note: The car does come with the factory hardtop that was also restored with all new glass and chrome trim (see
pictures). The convertible top was new at the time of the restoration. Please note that the top has spent it's
entire life under the deck lid of the car. Some of the wrinkles in the top will come out once the car spends some
time in the sun and is fully snapped into place (see picture).
Please note that this car has power windows which is rare for this vintage Corvette.
Engine and Power Train:
The motor is a 383 stroker that puts out an estimated 400+ hp. The car has a Griffin aluminum radiator, a Muncie 4
speed rock crusher rebuilt transmission and a rebuilt 1962 rear end. The individual who restored the car told me
that he used a 1962 Corvette rear end as he had been told that Chevrolet had beefed up the rear end when they went
to the 327 cubic inch motor.
The motor is a 4 bolt main 350 stroker that has 383 cubic inches. The engine components are as follows:
>4340 forged steel crank
>Clevite bearings
>TRW forged pistons with sealed power rings
>Crane hydr. roller cam and Crane gold roller lifters and guide plates
>Crower rods
>Melling HiPro oil pump
>Fluiddamper harmonic damper
>Milodon diamond stripper windage tray & Milodon 6 qt oil pan
>All engine studs & bolts are ARP
>Edelbrock Performer RPM heads
>Edelbrock intake with 2-500 cfm Edelbrock carbs
>Edelbrock aluminum water pump
>Cloyes roller timing gear with quick change cover
>CSI mini high torque starter
>Ram billet steel flywheel with Haynes clutch and pressure plate
>Rebuilt Muncie Rock Crusher Transmission
>New Posi Track rear end
>Borla 2" stainless steel mufflers and exhaust pipes.
The rear end ratio on this car is 3:70. I have a new ring and pinion in a 3:36 ratio that has not been installed
but goes with the car. Once installed, this rear end ratio will cut down on engine revs at all speeds.
Paint and Body:
When the car was restored the shop in California used lacquer paint which is what the factory used when the car was
built in 1960. The quality of the paint was not up to the standards of the rest of the car and the car was
re-painted earlier this year. The paint is by no means perfect. On a scale of 1 thru 10, with 5 being average and
10 being perfect, I rate the paint a sold 8. There are no cracks of any nature on any of the fiberglass components
of this car. There are no scratches or dings on any of the painted body panels. The car will also come with
approximately 2/3's of a gallon of Roman Red paint. The EPA has recently put in new regulations that do not allow
paint manufactures to obtain some of the components to make this color and as time moves on, this color will become
more difficult to obtain.
Please keep in mind that this car is now 56 years old and it is not new. With that having been said the
restoration that was performed on this car was very detailed. If you are seriously considering the purchase of one
of these early generation Corvettes, I strongly recommend that you find a car that has had a quality frame off
restoration. It is very costly to perform frame off restorations on these old cars. You can purchase some of
these cars that have had a quality frame off restoration for pennies on the dollar. I have in excess of $ 65,000
invested in this car !!! This car is a case in point.

The Chevrolet Bolt is headed to China as a Buick SUV
Thu, Jan 16 2020When spy photos of what appeared to be Chevrolet Bolt EV with some minor front- and rear-end updates circulated last week, Autoblog surmised that GM was working on some sort of Bolt-based vehicle — potentially a crossover — to be sold in China as a Buick. We may just have corroboration for that theory. On Thursday, Motor1.com spotted a story published earlier this week on the Chinese site Auto Home which claims that GM has applied to sell an all-electric SUV under the Velite 7 nameplate in China. There's little differentiating the Velite 7's exterior from the Bolt EV's, apart from bumpers, badges, and a little extra ground clearance. Up front, the bowtie is replaced by a round Buick badge, and the bumper picks up an almost Prius-like appearance thanks to contrasting vertical elements and a thin grille bleeding into the head lights to give it a full-width appearance. Chevy Bolt-based prototype View 16 Photos If the Chinese report is accurate, there is one significant difference under the skin. Per the application, the Buick crossover variant is to be powered by a 174-horsepower electric powertrain. That's down 26 horsepower from the Bolt EV's powertrain, and we can't help but think that a lifted Buick variant might just need every pony it can get. The needs of the Chinese market are unique, and we're certain GM knows what it's doing if these figures are accurate. We have no reason to believe Buick plans to sell the Velite 7 EV here in the States, though we expect an updated Chevy Bolt eventually, and we wouldn't be surprised if Buick brings something along shortly to fill the void left by the departure of the Regal sedan and its variants. Related Video:
2017 Chevy Bolt Prototype Quick Spin [w/video]
Wed, Jan 6 2016To say that there's a lot riding on the upcoming Chevy Bolt doesn't quite get at how important this all-electric vehicle could be for GM. To say that there's a lot riding on the upcoming Chevy Bolt doesn't quite get at how important this all-electric vehicle could be for GM. We are entering a new phase for EVs in the US, and it's one where there will be more than one 200+ mile range electric model that will cost around $30,000-$35,000. The two obvious first entries are the Tesla Model 3 and the Bolt, but you can bet your Level 2 charger that Nissan will be joining the party as well, along with all sorts of as-yet-unannounced entries from other automakers. The main change that all of these longer-range EVs will bring is – potentially – to make plugging in your car a mainstream thing. And if the mainstream is in play, then there's money to be made, and you're going to need one heck of an EV to get people to pick your car instead of someone else's. So, yeah, the Chevy Bolt could be a big deal. And today we not only got a bit more information about the car but we also got to go on a really short test drive in a prototype version outside of the Las Vegas Convention Center as part of CES 2016. The "drive" took place in a closed-off parking lot and my two laps through the cone course took less than three minutes, but I can still say that it looks like GM will be bringing a solid option to the marketplace soon. Chevy Bolt Prototype front 3/4 View 16 Photos If you shift into L, the regen becomes wonderfully strong. One of the pleasant surprises in the Bolt prototype is the ability to drive with just one pedal. When in D, the Bolt coasts a bit, which is nice for highway driving, but if you shift into L, the regen becomes wonderfully strong. Strong enough that you don't need to engage the brakes at all if you're in standard city traffic, with lots of gentle stops and starts. If you want even more stopping power without getting the brakes involved, the Bolt also has the regen-on-demand feature that was introduced in the Cadillac ELR and works great in the second-gen Chevy Volt. When you pull the paddle on the left back side of the steering wheel, the electric motor instantly becomes a generator and the Bolt turns forward momentum into energy for the battery pack. It will even bring the car to a complete stop and then hold it when you release the paddle.
Chevy finishes restoration of damaged 1 millionth Corvette
Fri, Sep 4 2015When a sinkhole at the National Corvette Museum devoured eight, rare examples of the iconic American sports car last year, some of the victims emerged better than others. While damaged, the 2009 Corvette ZR1 Blue Devil was able to drive out under its own power, making for a fairly straightforward restoration. Meanwhile, the one-millionth 'Vette came out looking like a pancake. Bringing the convertible back to perfection has taken four months and 1,200 man-hours, but the milestone car is finally on display again. After being a brief exhibit at the National Corvette Museum, the millionth 'Vette was moved to the General Motors Design Center. There, a 30-person team started on the difficult restoration. "When we disassembled it, we found that each employee involved in building it had signed a part of the car, which was fantastic and moving to see," said GM executive Mark Reuss. Therefore, the team tried to retain as many original parts as possible. The damage was extensive, and repairs included straightening the front sub-frame damage, patching the seats, and carefully restoring the dashboard pad to maintain the signatures below. The hood, front fascia, and side sills were replaced with parts from a donor vehicle. To keep the 'Vette perfect, the team scanned the names and put them on the new components. In one case, they even went back to an original employee to sign a replacement part. Surprisingly, the engine and transmission were fine. With the work done, the National Corvette's Museum's revived exhibit is nearly complete. Five of the other cars aren't being restored, and the museum is bringing the 1962 Corvette back to life.
Your browser does not support iframes.
Chevrolet Fulfills 1 Millionth Corvette Restoration Pledge Sinkhole-damaged milestone returns to National Corvette Museum 2015-09-03 BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – After more than four months and 1,200 man-hours of painstaking craftsmanship, restoration of the milestone 1 millionth Corvette – a white 1992 convertible – is complete. It was unveiled today at the National Corvette Museum, where it returns as part of the permanent exhibit. The car was damaged on Feb. 12, 2014, when it and seven other rare Corvettes tumbled into a sinkhole that opened beneath the museum's Skydome area. Chevrolet pledged to restore it.
