Presented here is a beautiful 1964 Chevrolet Corvair Monza Convertible in Silver Blue. Comprehensively restored for several years and completed about two years ago, this 1964 Corvair was rebuilt as a top notch, frame-off build with no corners cut. The gorgeous Silver Blue finish is brilliant and glossy. The bodywork was expertly restored and refinished, showing no signs of age and minimal evidence of use since it was completed. Paint quality is impressive, more so than photos can show. Panel fit is excellent, and all of the chrome was redone and remains in first-class condition.

The shiny white interior is as fresh as the bodywork and a testament to how clean and well-maintained the car has been cared for. Everything was replaced when the work was done, including seat covers, carpets, and door panels, with all of it using correct materials and patterns. The gauges are fully functional and original, and so is the AM stereo radio. The white canvas convertible top is brand new and the rear plastic window is without any fade whatsoever. The front trunk has been fully carpeted, including a custom cover for the spare tire.

Under the rear hood is a 164 cubic inch, air-cooled 4-cylinder, four-carburetor engine that is completely trouble-free. The engine reliably starts every single time, even when cold. The transmission is a 4-speed manual, and it shifts well and has good strong, acceleration. No smoke of any color from the exhaust. Brakes are straight and true, with all new brake components in all four wheels.

It starts and runs beautifully, the interior is big and comfortable, and all components are brand new. This Corvair was a no-expenses-spared restoration by someone that did it "for the memories" of their youth, and now must regrettably be sold. If you're looking for a Corvair with all components brand new, ready to shine every time it is driven, and restored to last another couple of decades, look no further.

Question of the Day: Worst year of the Malaise Era?

Thu, Jun 23 2016

The Malaise Era for cars in the United States spanned the 1973 through 1983 model years, and featured such abominations as a Corvette with just 205 horsepower (from the optional engine!) and MGBs with suspensions jacked way up to meet new headlight-height requirements. There were many low points throughout this gloomy period, of course. The horrifyingly low power and fuel-economy numbers for big V8s during the middle years of the Malaise Era make a strong case for 1974 or 1975— the years of Nixon's resignation and the Fall of Saigon, respectively— as the most Malaisey years. But then the GM-pummeling debacles of the Chevy Citation and Cadillac Cimarron could make an early-1980s year the low point. 1979, the year of the ignominious Chrysler bailout? You choose! Nissan Leaf sells 1,553 in April, Volt climbs to 905

Fri, May 1 2015

After three months in the 500 and 600 range, sales of the Chevy Volt climbed to 905 in April. That's up for the year so far – likely due to increasing discounts – but still down 41.5 percent from April 2014. As we've been saying every time the Volt turns in less-than-exciting monthly sales numbers, we suspect a large number of potential Volt buyers are waiting for the next-gen model to arrive in the second half of 2015. While the price for that car has not yet been announced, the updated tech specs show that it will probably be worth the wait for drivers who want the latest and greatest. Over on the Nissan Leaf side of things, April sales were 1,553 units this year. That's the second-best month of the year but down from the 2,088 units sold last April. After the Leaf finally climbed to the top of the cumulative best sellers list for plug-in vehicles last month, the difference between these two leaders is now 1,824 in favor of the Leaf. Nissan says that sales were influenced by the launch of its No Charge To Charge promotion in Indianapolis and Fresno, CA. This deal gives new Leaf buyers and lessees two years of no-cost quick charging in these markets. No Charge To Charge is not available in 15 US markets for (San Francisco, Sacramento, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Nashville, Phoenix, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Houston, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, Chicago and Atlanta) and will expand to 10 more by the middle of this year. As we do every month, our full wrap-up of US green car sales is coming soon. For now, enjoy discussing these sales figures in the Comments below.

Watch this week's Top Gear America used-car challenge

Sat, Sep 9 2017

Top Gear America is back for the penultimate episode of the first season. Used car challenges were some of the highlights of the original UK edition. In our exclusive clip, Tom Ford, Antron Brown and William Fichtner run their $7,000 sports cars in a drag race. As expected, the trio chose very different cars for the challenge. Watch the video to see if a Subaru WRX's all-wheel drive can overcome a power deficit to beat a Ford Mustang and a Chevy Corvette. Brown and Fichtner also spend some time relaxing with an old Jeep Wagoneer. Like them, we're really hoping Jeep will bring back the Wagoneer nameplate. Brown also drives a Maserati Levante, proving that not all family cars need be boring. This week's guest star is actor, rapper and former host of Pimp My Ride, Xzibit. Top Gear America airs Sundays at 8 p.m. Eastern on BBC America. Related Video: Celebrities TV/Movies Chevrolet Ford Subaru Top Gear exclusive top gear america
