Born from that awesome combination of appeal and support this killer 1966 pro-touring convertible is so far over the top it's actually down the other side and on fire from a high rate of speed! A true SS396 body that's been converted into one of the sickest rides around via a completely custom chassis and a World Products built Big Block 540. This hot Chevrolet drop-top is a killer magazine centerfold that's just waiting to be discovered. If you're shopping for a fully-sorted cruiser that puts a 21st century spin on an old school favorite you're looking at your next car!
During a professional nut and bolt rotisserie restoration this solid Chevelle Super Sport was entirely disassembled and completely striped of its dull original paint. After a bit of hard work the car's clean body presented itself as an excellent foundation for a slick coat of modern urethane. And finally starting with a freshly restored convertible the crew at CAS Design was contracted to turn an already desirable car into a ground pounding showstopper! When the dust finally settled more than $185K was spent on turning a well-restored bowtie into a first-rate bad boy. And the end result is a fantastic looking hot rod that oozes cool even when it's sitting still!
Unlike most pro-touring builds this Chevelle wasn't entirely stripped of stainless ornamentation and trim. But the baubles and bolt-ons were definitely kept to a minimum in order to showcase the body's awesome 'coke bottle' profile and intimidating street presence. At the sides of the car ribbed rocker guards dent-free wheel well openings and traditional chrome door handles combine with a chrome bowtie mirror traditional ''Super Sport'' quarter emblems and 396-branded cross-flags to add a little flash to a sea of blue basecoat.
Pop the latch fling up the steel and you'll find see Fesler hood hinges with 540 cubic inches of engine that produces a massive 600 horsepower and an explosive 565 lb./ft. of torque. What's better: more than 500 lb./ft. of that torque is available as low as 2500 RPM! Can you say stump puller? Amazing throttle response and modern drivability are provided by fuel injection that's wired with full computer control monitored by an Aeromotive pressure regulator with Autometer custom painted gauges. Outfitted with Hooker long tube headers, at the back of those headers an aftermarket points distributor sends spark through fresh MSD Super Conductor plug wires. In front of those wires a full set of Billet Specialties pulleys and billet brackets spin a chrome Engine Works alternator above a high performance Weiand water pump and a polished Saginaw power steering pump. And in front of those pumps a heavy duty aluminum radiator which is equipped with a chrome overflow tank and two SPAL electric pusher fans barely breaks a sweat to keep things cool. Aesthetically this engine bay is holding up well. And small items like billet breathers braided hoses chrome dress up pieces and a fluid reservoir for the car's hydraulic clutch add a heavy dose of both form and function.
While you might think that monstrous engine is this Chevy's biggest selling point the best stuff can be found underneath its slick blue body! To start with there's a high dollar Monster High Performance 4-speed which keeps the power up at the stoplight and the revs down on the highway. That transmission leads a rugged Mosler 12 bolt rear end which has been powder coated for both appearance and durability. That rear end transfers power to a full Hotchkis suspension with QA1 coil overs front and rear. Flaming River power rack and pinion steering sway bar end links Those suspensions hold up a modern Art Morrison chassis that's been powder coated and bolted to clean floorpans which are expertly finished in satin black Line-X and . That chassis' stops are provided by a Wilwood four wheel disc brake system which employs Morrison spindles 4-piston calipers and high quality braided hoses. The car's spent gases are ushered away by great sounding Flowmaster dual chamber mufflers that are woven into a network of ceramic coated exhaust pipes. And all this top notch hardware rides on a slick set of Billet Specialty wheels. Urethane suspension bushings combine with urethane body motor and transmission mounts to keep unwanted motion in check without rattling out your fillings. All fuel lines are braided pieces with Aeromotive A/N fittings and Aeromotive components supplying the get up and go for the big engine's get up and go juice. A Rick's custom fuel tank is located under the car. Every time you look for this Chevelle's final finishing touch you run into more and more details like a high quality Lokar parking brake cable!
Like its exterior this Super Sport's interior is a masterful blend of old and new that features the comfort and convenience of modern technology wrapped in classic Chevrolet design. The driver and front passenger's bucket seats are Corbeau custom racing seats while the rear bench seat has been totally redone. Between those seats a custom console is outfitted with a custom storage area as well as a billet cupholder and a B&M shifter. The console also houses an Alpine W505 head unit. Hidden below that console are JL Audio 6W3v3-4 subwoofers. The traditional '66 Chevelle door panels literally glow under our showroom lighting while also housing Focal KRX2 speakers while custom built rear panels are equipped with Focal 165 CVX speakers. At the front a custom dash looks perfectly natural holding a full array of Auto Meter Pro Comp Ultra Lite gauges with custom billet pushbutton switches for starting the car along with other operations. In front of the driver a small diameter Flaming River billet steering wheel spins around a polished Flaming River tilt steering column that's complete with a full set of billet stalks. The fully carpeted custom finished trunk displays a Tru Technology Billet B6S custom built amplifier, housed behind a custom built plexiglass enclosure with LED lighting.
Sometimes the best cars are the ones that speak softly. No blower sticking through the hood no gaudy rims on a slammed chassis and no wild graphics; just a clean classy and well-constructed muscle car that was purpose-built to look great and have the performance to back it up. With its classic style modern performance and outstanding build quality this topless Chevelle pro-tourer is an absolute blast to drive and is instantly admired wherever it goes. Don't miss this chance to own a powerful well-sorted performance machine that's as timeless today as it was 46 years ago!

2016 Chevrolet Camaro: Everything we know so far [UPDATE]
Fri, May 15 2015UPDATE: We fully expect the floodgates to open as facts and photos leak throughout the day. Watch this space for more information as it breaks, including these leaked photos, and some new powertrain speculation. Chevrolet has made a grand production of teasing the all-new, sixth-generation Camaro. That slow trickle will become a deluge this weekend, when the 2016 model hits the stage on Detroit's Belle Isle as part of an all-day Camaro-palooza. Considering you're likely to hear plenty about the next-gen muscle car in the next couple days, we figured now is the perfect time to sort out all the facts and rumors we've heard about the next-generation coupe that's coming this weekend. Here's everything we know about Camaro Six. What Will It Look Like? Arguably the easiest Camaro question to answer after all the teasers and spy shots, General Motors' design team favored evolving the current car's retro design language while retaining the same basic shape. The long hood will carry on, joined by an even shorter, wing-topped rear deck, giving the 2016 an almost fastback-like look. The greenhouse is still slim, but lateral visibility may improve slightly owing to the larger quarter windows. We can only hope. The rear end looks to have been rounded, while Chevy's own teaser shows off larger, more prominent taillight housings than the simple rectangular lights on today's car. Expect quad-tipped exhausts to be offered on at least one version of the Camaro. Judging by the single teaser of the car's profile, the rear haunches will be larger and more chiseled. The muscular aluminum hood and its accompanying power bulge are more heavily styled than on today's car, although it looks largely similar in terms of size. It sits atop an even slimmer upper grille that's barely big enough for Chevy's Bowtie logo, with most of the visual mass moving to the gaping lower grille. One of the more tantalizing rumors surrounding the new Camaro focuses on its roof. As evidenced in a rather bizarre round of spy photos, it almost looks like Chevy is considering a removable panel, a la Corvette Stingray. T-tops are also a distinct (and more probable, we hope) possibility. The new shape will result in a more aerodynamic car, and Chevy claims the 2016 Camaro spent 350 hours in the wind tunnel. Overall lift has apparently been cut by 30 percent, thanks partially to a new, smooth underbody panel. Chevrolet has been far less forthcoming with information on the new Camaro's cabin.
GM and Ford quarterly sales continue to slump in China
Fri, Jul 5 2019BEIJING — General Motors and Ford announced their quarterly sales in China fell, albeit at a slower pace sequentially, as the U.S. automakers were hit by a slowing economy amid the Sino-U.S. trade war. GM's vehicle sales in China for the quarter ended June 30 dropped 12.2%, while Ford's sales slumped by 21.7%. While GM also suffered from heightened competition in its key mid-priced SUV segment, Ford was hurt by the limited new models for customers to choose from. For the first quarter of this year, Ford's sales in China tumbled 35.8 percent while GM's skid 17.5 percent. Still, the numbers from GM, the second biggest international automaker in China by sales, and Ford portend more uncertainty for the industry which is trying to rebound from a downward spiral that led to its first annual sales decline last year in more than two decades. GM delivered 1.57 million vehicles in China in the January-June period this year, while Ford delivered 290,321 vehicles. China's factory activity shrank more than expected in June, highlighting the need for more economic stimulus amid higher U.S. tariffs and weaker domestic demand. Annual car sales in China fell last year for the first time since the 1990s, and they are expected to fall this year too. Sales tumbled 16.4% in May from the same month a year prior, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) said. That marked the 11th consecutive month of decline and followed falls of 14.6% in April and 5.2% in March. U.S. car companies' share of total China passenger vehicles sales fell to 9.6% in the first five months of this year from 10.9% in the year-ago period, according to CAAM. Over the same period, German car makers' share has risen to 23.3% from 20.9% and Japanese auto makers' to 21.3% from 17.3%. CAAM is set to announce June sales next week, which industry analysts forecast will be negative.  New models In China, GM has a joint venture with SAIC Motor Corp, in which the Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac are made. It also has another venture, with SAIC and GuangxiAutomobile Group, in which they make no-frills minivans and have started to make higher-end cars. Sales of GM's affordable brand Baojun dropped 31.8% for the latest quarter. But luxury brand Cadillac's sales jumped 36.6%. GM sold 3.64 million units in China last year, down from 4.04 units in 2017. Ford makes cars in China through its joint venture with Chongqing Changan Automobile Co and Jiangling Motors Corp (JMC).
