You are bidding on an immaculate and amazing 1970 Chevelle SS Pro Touring car.  This car is a ground up, frame off restoration of a rust free Arizona desert car with less than 1,000 miles on the restoration.  No expense has been spared and only the best materials, components and workmanship has been used.  Personal attention was paid to the smallest of details when building this car.  There is over $90,000 invested in this car and it has been appraised at $125k.  This car is the total package of vintage look and modern technology, with enough chrome to win car shows and awards while at the same time was built to drive.

The engine is a 540 cubic inch motor built by a NASCAR engine builder who still owns track records with engines they built.  This is a Dart Big M block with Dart Pro 1 aluminum heads and a Dart Hi Rise intake manifold.  All forged lower end parts.  The top end is a Comp Cam, Scorpion Roller Rockers, Pro Systems HP 1000 Carburetor.  To fire this engine there is an MSD distributor and a 6AL MSD ignition as well.  The engine dyno'd at 685 HP at 6,000 RPM and is good to 7,000 RPM easily.  This bad boy generates 660 lb ft of torque as well.  The engine is fronted by a polished aluminum and chrome March Performance serpentine pulley system.  To let the engine breathe we installed custom Lemons 2.5" headers and affixed them to a 3" Pypes stainless steel exhaust system with Crossovers to Race Pro mufflers and polished stainless steel exhaust tips.  The exhaust note and sound is awesome.

To put all that power to the rear wheels there is an automatic four speed overdrive transmission by Art Carr at California Performance Transmissions.  You will recognize this name from the builds he does with Chip Foose.  There is a separate transmission cooler to make sure of a long and healthy life for the transmission.  The stall is 2,800 RPM.  The drive shaft is an aluminum drive shaft by Denny's drive shaft and is balanced at 7,000 RPM.  To transfer the power we used 1350 U joints for longevity.  The rear end is a 12 bolt with 3.73 gears.

As for the exterior we started with a rust free Arizona car with all its original sheet metal and took it completely off the frame. We stripped the car down to bare metal and this car spent 26 weeks in paint at a shop that specializes in doing Concourse winning cars such as Yenko Camaros and Chevelles, as well as many other hot rods, vintage, and classic cars.   Understandably the car is dead straight and the paint is amazing.  The color is a modern GM color of Imperial Blue Metallic with some additional metallic and a small amount or pearls blended in as well.  This paint absolutely fires brilliantly in the sun while in the dark it almost looks black.  It truly must be seen in all lights to be appreciated.  The paint formula is well documented in case it is ever needed for touch up or repair.

While the exterior of the car is amazing the underside must be seen to be appreciated as well.  the Arizona desert was very good to this car and the undercarriage is as clean and immaculate as the day it left the factory.  Pictures of the undercarriage are available on request.  All new bushings were installed with the reassembly of the car.

The wheels are 17"  Torque Thrust II's for that Vintage look.  They are aluminum to reduce rotating mass.  Rear wheels are 11" deep with 315/35/17 tires and the fronts are 9.5" deep with 275/45/17 tires.  The tires are BF Goodrich G Force.  We measured for proper back space and had the wheels custom machined to be as big as possible without having to tub the wheel wells at all.

The suspension was done by SC&C.  The front has tubular upper A arms and tall ball joints which lowers the front by 1/2".  The shocks are Alston VariShocks adjustable shocks and the coils are Global West Coils.  There is a front sway bar by Global West as well.  The rear suspension has fully adjustable boxed upper and lower control arms, with frame tie ins for added stability.  The rear shocks are also Alston VariShocks and there is also a rear sway bar by Hotchkiss.  This car has the same suspension geometry and handling characteristics as a late model 2001-2002 Camaro or Firebird, flat and stable through the back road curves and corners.

With all the go power the engine provides we had to be sure of stopping as well.  The brakes are Hydra Tech hydraulically assisted power brakes with front discs that are drilled and slotted for heat dissipation, with rear drum brakes as recommended by Hydra Tech Brake technicians. The pads are Hawke ceramic brake pads.

The interior has been completely redone in Ivory and honors the stock look of the era.  I have added the modern 3 point seat belts to the front seats.  For comfort in the hottest months there is working factory air as well.

The sound system has a vintage appearing head with modern electronics and fits into the dash with no cutting of the dash.  There is a connection for your ipod or phone so you can have all your tunes to cruise with.  There are kick panel speakers installed and wired in and the wiring has all been pulled to the rear deck and trunk as well.  I have an amp and a sub-woffer that I have not installed as this is the last and only thing that needs to be completed on the car.

All in all this is an amazing car that I actually built for my wife to drive to car shows while I would drive my 68 Camaro.  Due to life changes we must regretfully offer this car for sale.  I have around $90,000 invested in this car and it has been independently appraised at $125k.  Please be respectful of all of our time and be a serious buyer of a serious car when making inquiries.

Chevy Corvette gets Valet Mode with Performance Data Recorder [w/video]

Mon, 18 Aug 2014

For the 2015-model-year, Chevrolet introduces Valet Mode for the Corvette, an enhancement to the Performance Data Recorder (PDR) already available and to your peace of mind. The PDR already captures 720p HD video with a windshield-mounted camera, records interior audio with a cabin microphone and gathers telemetry data using GPS, saving the data to an SD card in the glovebox. You can then watch your track-day antics with various information overlays on the center console screen.
Valet Mode will let you hit 'Replay' when your car gets pulled up front smelling vaguely of fricasseed clutch. Turned on by entering a four-digit code, it also locks the interior storage spaces and turns off the infotainment system. It can't be turned off until the code is re-entered. There's a press release below with more information as well as a video that explains how it works, with the obligatory dig at the 'Vette's biggest foe.

Recharge Wrap-up: Free chargers for Canadian ELR buyers, Renovo gets funding for EV supercar

Thu, Sep 18 2014

Chevrolet offers versions of its Express passenger van with B20 biodiesel and E85 capability. Customers can buy the van with the Duramax turbodiesel V8, which is compatible with the 20-percent biodiesel blend. There is also a FlexFuel V8, which can use the 85-percent ethanol gasoline blend. It's a great option for shuttling the whole soccer team to practice using renewable fuels. Read more at Domestic Fuels. Early buyers of the Cadillac ELR in Canada will get a 240-volt charger installed at their home for free. It should help convince some buyers to adopt the range extended luxury EV. Cadillac's Chief Marketing Officer Uwe Ellinghaus says, "Professional installation of the fastest home-charging unit is a natural way to mark the introduction of ELR to the luxury market." Read more in the press release below. Renovo has received venture capital funding from California-based True Ventures to build its Coupe electric supercar. The impressive EV, with its 500 horsepower and 1,000 pound-feet of torque, is an inspiring vehicle built by a promising company, according to its financial backers. Toni Schneider of True Ventures says that Renovo has "created incredibly advanced technology and a beautiful machine that is well positioned to disrupt the automotive market." Read more in the press release below. Renault says it will build its Fluence ZE electric car in China for an unnamed brand, pending government approval. Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn announced the plan at a test drive event in France on Monday. Renault has a partnership with Dongfeng Motors to build and sell its cars in China. Read more at Reuters. Germany has lifted its ban on Uber. While the German court believes the ride-hailing service is operating illegally without proper licensing for drivers, it says Taxi Deutschland waited too long to file the case against Uber. The taxi association plans to appeal the decision soon. See more in the video below, and read more at The New York Times. A new report from UC Davis claims that a global expansion of public transit could save 1,700 megatons of carbon dioxide yearly and over $100 trillion by 2050. A "high-shift scenario" would be necessary, wherein governments invest in rail and clean buses, expand biking and walking infrastructure and shift focus away from projects that encourage car use. This shift to public transit would especially be important in the US, China and India. Read more in the press release below.

GM delays 3.0-liter Duramax diesel in Silverado and Sierra pickups

Thu, May 23 2019

Stricter testing protocols around the world are making it harder for automakers to predict launch timelines. GM is the latest to get caught in emissions nettles, the Detroit carmaker forced to delay the launch of its new Duramax 3.0-liter inline-six diesel for the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500. That's what company reps told dealers in a memo seen by Automotive News this week. Dealers and buyers had been promised the Flint, Mich.-built oil-burner in early 2019, but AN wrote that the EPA certification hiccup has turned into a "slight delay." A GM spokesman told Motor1, "[We] did not attribute [the delay] to a single entity, as the truth is this is a collaborative effort between GM and several government entities. We will make the 2020MY Duramax available for dealers orders soon, and expect to deliver the first trucks to customers soon after emissions testing is complete." We know the new 3.0-liter Duramax diesel has 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, outdoing Ford's 3.0-liter PowerStroke diesel by 27 hp and 20 lb-ft. But without final EPA paperwork, GM can't release the numbers that will show how the two engines stack up when considering fuel economy and tow ratings. The certification process has been sticky for a few other makers of late, especially since the Volkswagen Group situation in 2015. BMW had to delay the launch of four diesel models in 2016 over EPA testing. The new Ram 1500 dribbled out in a trickle last year for reasons thought to deal with EPA testing, coming as it did a year after the EPA investigated Ram's EcoDiesel engines in 2017 and 2018. More recently, WLTP testing in Europe caught out just about every automaker over there. Since we're almost halfway through 2019, the delay until the 2020 model year is only a few months. Still, GM told dealers to cancel any orders for the engine for this model year. Dealers will need to resubmit the orders once opening begins, but GM hasn't said when production will begin other than "soon." The company said that it will offer 2020-model-year replacement vehicles to customers and dealers. If prices hold into the next model year, the 2020 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 with the inline-six diesel will come at a $3,890 premium over the 2.7-liter turbo four-cylinder, and a $2,495 premium over the 5.3-liter V8.
