1968 Chevelle Malibu; 90% restored; all this car needs is some finishing to be a great street rod - that was my goal, but ran out of time. Someone will have a blast in this car - I wish it was me.
Anyway, I purchased the body/frame - there was some rust around the windshield and trunk lip I had a body shop repair. Frame is in fine shape; no rust on the car now. I had it painted satin black to give it a mild rat rod look. Mechanically, I purchased a 327 and rebuilt the bottom end; it has some very mild cam other than stock in it, I believe; heads from a Camaro are sitting on top; Edelbrock Victor, Jr. intake, Edelbrock 1406 carb; new electric cooling fan; new fuel line; headers; almost new Flowmaster dual exhaust; Turbo 350 transmission. New Cragar SS wheels with new BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires. The car is an A/C car, and it could certainly be again. I was going for the left arm tan vibe.
The electrical system was completely rebuilt front to back by a Chevelle guy in town.
Regarding the interior, the dash is in great shape; the front seats are new - mechanical reclining seats; back seat is in ok shape, but needs to be recovered. New carpet, reproduction door panels, door handles, arm rests. There is good sound insulation under the carpet and in the trunk, too. The shifter is a custom billet aluminum ratchet shifter some made for me - it looks boss and really sets the car off. I initially had a custom fiberglass console in there with standard gauges (temp, oil pressure, alt), but decided it was too much. The subs and amp in the trunk were coupled with a stereo that was mounted in the console; I never got around to moving the stereo into the dash. I have no use for them, so they stay with the car.
As I stated, someone will have a great street rod with a minimum of work - wish it was me. It has a nice, throaty idle. I only drove it a couple of times after the engine was rebuilt - it may have 3 or 4 miles on the rebuilt engine. The brakes are spongy; it probably needs a master cylinder. You would not want to fly in and drive this car to your home, in my opinion. It also needs shocks. For someone that had a little bit of mechanical knowledge or someone that wanted to learn a little, you can get in this car cheap and have a hell of a nice antique street rod.

Some 2012-13 Chevy Volts may not have enough battery coolant
Mon, Jun 23 2014The 2012 and 2013 model year Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in vehicle may have a battery glitch caused by low coolant levels. No recall has been issued and General Motors is taking care of the issue at no cost to drivers. Some of the affected Volts may have lower-than-advisable coolant levels because of some pesky air pockets in the car's cooling circuit. When the coolant levels get too low, the charging system for the battery powering the car's onboard generator (i.e. the Rechargeable Energy Storage System, or the RESS) may be shut down, turning one's Volt into a run-of-the-mill gas-powered car, and a pricey one at that. The Car Connection says GM is advising owners of the '12 and '13 Volts to contact their local Chevy dealer for a free fix. GM representatives didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from AutoblogGreen for more details. We believe this is a separate issue than the one that brought 8,000 Volts back to the dealers for a battery coolant fix, what GM called a "voluntary customer satisfaction effort," a few years ago. General Motors sold 23,094 Chevy Volts last year after selling 23,461 Volts in 2012, so that fix-it list may get fairly lengthy. Check out a GM-Volt.com user thread related to this issue here. *UPDATE: Chevrolet spokesman Randy Fox confirmed in an e-mail to AutoblogGreen that the company issued a service bulletin to dealers that they may need to top off coolant levels on certain Volts because of the issue, and that the vehicle will "return to normal charging operation" once that's done.
There are still 6,000 first-gen Chevy Volts on dealer lots
Sun, May 24 2015The next-gen 2016 Chevrolet Volt looks to be a pretty fantastic vehicle with more electric driving range, better fuel economy than its predecessor, and a lower starting price. However, if you're looking for a deal, the 2015 model of the plug-in hybrid might not be a bad place to check because Chevy has a ton of them to get rid of. According to The Detroit Free Press, there are around 6,000 examples of the 2015 Volts that are still sitting on dealer lots. That might not sound like a lot, but Chevy only sold 905 of them in April and 2,779 through that month in 2015. It moved 18,805 of the PHEVs for all of 2014. Buyers are in a pretty good spot to haggle at the moment, too, with the a new Volt right around the corner. According to The Detroit Free Press based on TrueCar figures, the current average closing price for a 2015 model is $30,607 before any federal or state tax credits. You can also lease one for 39 months for $299 a month and $1,649 due at signing. In April, Chevy was reportedly offering customers 2.9-percent financing for 48 months and leases with no money down for buyers trading in a vehicle from a competitor. Of course, there's also always the option to buy a pre-owned example. Just a few months ago, prices for used Volts were reportedly as low as $13,000 at auction.
