Chevrolet Camaro Z-28 on 2040-cars
Upton, New York, United States
Here it is all! This is my baby, it took 4 years and a lot of head scratching to build and we have had 3 years to enjoy it but it is time to find another home and other "roads". The base car is a 1997 Camaro Z-28 Convertible that had a stock LT-1 350. It was completely rebuilt as a tribute to the 1969 Camaro SS. Everyone who has seen it believes it is what GM should have done with the Gen 5 (but that is just their opinion). About all that is left untouched from the original car is the windshield and subframe (though that has been beefed up dramatically). Everything else has been upgraded and/or modified. The list is huge and I can provide it to serious bidders. I have also attached two video links. The first is my own home made review of the car shot last week (I am not good at this). The second is a bit more professional and was shot by Comp Cams to show off their new EZ TCU Transmission control unit. I had one of the first TCI 6X Transmissions and it came out before the EZ TCU was ready so Comp Cams took the car back and used it for the install video. You will see that this is also during the build out of the car (no roll bar and interior was still stock). Here is a bit about the car. I have had it to 184mph on the GPS (not recommended but we had to see). It ran out of Cam but the motor still had more. Cam is relatively mild LT-1 Performer (with matching Heads) from Comp. It Is fast, last DYNO was over 400HP to RW and almost immediate 400+ ft lbs of torque that stayed constant through the band. Power is a bored and stroked (to 396) LT-1 with Eagle Crank and running 13.5:1 compression on Mahle pistons. It needs 105 Octane minimum. I usually run C-10 (107 octane). I have run it on premium gas in a pinch and it runs but the tune is not set up for that and I would worry about long term effect. Could easily be converted to ethanol with bigger injectors but never saw the benefit or need. Moroso cold air intake, Griffin oversized radio and a number of other items round out the front (lots of Hotchkis and BMR tubular parts throughout - Strut tower, upper and lowers A arms, rear sway, Frame rail, etc). Power feeds through TCI torque converter to the TCI 6X transmission into an Eaton Tru Track inside a Moser Built rear end. I believe we ended up with 3:73 gearing but may have went weird to a 3:92 at one point?). Hooker headers feed into a Magnaflow exhaust and sound AWESOME!.Brakes are Wilwood 6 piston in front and 4 piston in rear. Wheels are Foose Df-5 Black, Rubber is Nitto Envo. Interior has Recaro buckets in front with custom houndstooth cloth in front and rear. Air bags do not work. Granitelli 200mph dash with custom race steering wheel. I am forgetting a ton but have most of all of the paperwork from all of the components. The car is solid but is NOT something for a beginner or novice. Originally built it for Autocross but it is a bit too torquey. It gets the MOST attention at any place it goes and literally rides on rails. Look at the videos and email with questions. I expect to get about 30% of what it took to build this car so the reserve is much lower than what you have seen similar builds sell for (and they are not built like this car). eBay Find of the Day: 1990 Chevy 1500 454 SS with just 7 miles
Sun, Jan 4 2015When trawling the classifieds either on a buying mission or merely a time-wasting mission, we spend a lot of time poring over photographs comparing the seller's idea of "Like New!" with our idea of it. It's hard to argue with seven original miles on the odometer, though, which is what this 1990 Chevrolet 1500 454 SS has. It's being sold by Country Chevrolet on eBay, the same dealer who sold the truck to its one and only owner 25 years ago. The purchaser bought two of them and left this one in a garage under a car cover, said garage being less than seven miles away from the showroom floor. Better yet, you can buy with confidence because the seller "has collected all records," which we expect would be the slimmest manilla folder in the history of receipt-keeping. For those unfamiliar, the 454 SS was a half-ton, regular cab, 2WD pickup powered by a 454 cubic inch (7.4-liter) V8 with 230 horsepower and 385 pound-feet of torque shifting through a three-speed transmission. This was at the same time the Chevrolet Corvette used a 5.7-liter V8 producing 250 hp and 350 lb-ft. The pickup rode on exclusive wheels and only came in black with red cloth inside. The only extra-cost option on this example is an $18 locking fuel filler cap, which, according to the 454ss forum, means it should have cost about $18,460 out the door, the equivalent of about $34,000 today. At the time of writing there are zero bids, but proceedings open at $45,000 and Country Chevrolet wants $49,000 if you have to have your time capsule right now.
GM puts 3 million miles on hydrogen fuel cell test fleet
Mon, May 12 2014Have General Motors' hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles emitted enough water vapor over the past six-plus years to equal the steam coming out of Old Faithful? Not exactly, but GM has released a few figures related to the Project Driveway initiative it began in 2007. The numbers are impressive, if not quite of the geyser-spouting variety. In all, the General converted 119 Chevrolet Equinox SUVs to run on hydrogen, and those vehicles have just collectively surpassed the 3 million mile mark. And if you were waiting for us to tell you that the distance equals a half-dozen round trips between the earth and the moon, well, there you go. The better news is that the SUVs have combined to save almost 158,000 gallons worth of gas, and some of the vehicles have more than 120,000 miles on them. More than 5,000 drivers have participated in the project. GM reached that landmark about 10 months after it announced that it was working with Honda to accelerate the development of hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain technology. The two companies estimated last summer that it may have something to sell to the public as soon as 2020. For now, you can check out General Motors' press release below. GM Fuel Cell Fleet Tops 3 Million Miles Chevrolet Equinox fuel cell vehicles driven in real world reach milestone DETROIT – General Motors' fleet of fuel cell vehicles recently passed 3 million miles of hydrogen-powered, real-world driving. Some individual vehicles have accumulated more than 120,000 miles. By GM's estimate, using hydrogen to power these vehicles, the fleet has avoided 157,894 gallons of gasoline consumption. This specially equipped fleet of Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell vehicles are part of GM's 119-vehicle Project Driveway program, which launched in 2007. Since then, more than 5,000 drivers have provided feedback on the functionality and drivability of fuel cell technology. "Hydrogen fuel cell technology is an important part of GM's advanced propulsion portfolio and we continue to make substantial progress in furthering this technology," said Charlie Freese, executive director of GM's global fuel cell engineering activities. "These vehicles have operated through seven full winters and a wide range of environmental conditions, proving that fuel cells can meet the demands of real-world drivers." Last year, GM announced two fuel cell-related collaborations.
Chevy Silverado Special Ops will go into limited production
Tue, Dec 15 2015Remember the Special Ops edition Silverado? Chevy showcased it as a show truck at SEMA last month. And now it's going into limited production, and proceeds will support the National Navy SEAL Museum. The special pickup was based on a Silverado 1500 in Z71 spec and done up with a special three-tone paint job inspired by the camouflage used on 20th-century warships. Known as Razzle Dazzle, the camo was designed to disguise a ship's form and movements from enemy vessels. Chevy also fitted the show truck with a sport bar, off-road LEDs, lower- and under-body reinforcement, and flared wheel arches packing special 20-inch wheels. Following its debut at SEMA, former GM chairman Dan Akerson (a US Naval Academy alum) and retired Navy SEAL Master Chief Rick Kaiser presented the concept truck at the 116th Army-Navy football game this past weekend. Chevy hasn't said just how many it will build and at what price, but production is slated to be "limited," going on sale in the spring. Everest Team to raise Post Traumatic Stress Disorder awareness - GM Military Discount expands to include all veterans PHILADELPHIA – For the sixth consecutive year, Chevrolet is the official vehicle sponsor of Saturday's Army-Navy Game. During the game, Chevrolet will honor military service men and women, particularly its special forces. Former General Motors Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, will join retired U.S. Navy SEAL Master Chief Rick Kaiser, executive director of the National Navy SEAL Museum, to salute the special forces during the presentation of a Chevy Silverado Special Ops Concept vehicle at the game. The limited production version is expected to go on sale next spring. Chevrolet will donate a portion of the proceeds from each Special Operations Silverado sold to benefit the Navy SEAL Museum. "The partnership will also help us aid the families of fallen, injured and active duty Navy SEALs through the efforts of our Trident House and scholarship programs," said Kaiser. Founded in 1985, the museum honors the service and legacy of the U.S. Navy SEALs. Located in Ft. Pierce, Fla., the museum and memorial are recognized as the birthplace of the Navy SEALs.
