1957 Chevy 2 Door Hardtop Bel Air, Excellent Driver! Very Affordable! on 2040-cars

AT
LAST!!! A 57 Chevy that's affordable and doesn't need a ton of work! With great
regret, I must sell due to my health, medical bills and age. This ’57 hard top
is laser straight and finished off in the unforgivable color of black. The
mechanics of the car are excellent! It has a great running stock 350ci Chevy engine
with 4 barrel carb and NEW dual exhaust. The transmission is a turbo 350 and it
has a stock rear. The brake system is new with drum brakes and double chamber
master cylinder; it has air shocks on the back. The wipers are electric and it
has a new tinted windshield, all other glass is excellent. All gauges,
speedometer, heater, lights etc. work. Has nice radio with tape player. The
chrome is all great nothing needs replacing and features the one piece
California front bumper. The car is mildly customized with the tubular grill.
The wheels are NEW rally wheels with BFG radial raised white letter tires. The
interior is very presentable with one tear (patched) on driver seat back from a
screwdriver in pocket. Perfect red vinyl headliner, but the dash could use a repaint.
The undercarriage is average with the typical repaired areas of use and age
with NO safety or structural issues, definitely not a trailer queen. I wouldn't
hesitate to drive this car anywhere, it has excellent road manners and is a
pleasure to drive (except for all the horn blowing and thumbs up from
spectators). You don't get that with your new $40k car. The car has no air or
power steering but runs proudly up the highway with the best of them. Now for
the bad news: the bottom of both front fenders have been repaired (rust) and
over the years need it again, the passenger side quarter panel has a small bad
spot but those are the only rust issues I see. I experimented on the trunk lid
and as you can see it didn't work out it was a paint thing not an accident and
the deck lid needs to be repainted (there is a small section that is a lighter
shade of black). This is an excellent driver quality ‘57 and I've received many
awards BUT DON'T BE FOOLED! The pictures don’t tell the true story on the
paint. A couple of feet back (not a 20 footer) this car looks pristine but up
on top of it you can see it's old lacquer that is starting to craze or as they
now say patina. If you want an excellent driver that you turn the key and go
and have fun this is it, if you want a pristine show car it must be repainted.
I'm not running my Chevy down but just being honest as I don't like bad surprises
myself. I have a very reasonable reserve (less than I got in it) and not the
national debt as other sellers. I've had the car for 5 years and was told it
needed paint when I got it but it's always been garaged and never got any worse.
I can't express enough: look at the car, ask the wife before bidding, and be ready
to purchase the vehicle should you be the lucky high bidder! You are
responsible for shipping and I will assist on this end the best I can. For no
nonsense questions call me at 856-327-0289 or 609-501-5192. Bid with confidence
and good luck winning! I hate to sell it but I must and I know I'll never be
able to own another ‘57 Icon. God Bless, John.

Junkyard Gem: 1980 Chevrolet LUV Mikado
Sat, Oct 9 2021During the 1970s and into the 1980s, each member of the Detroit Big Three imported Japanese small pickups and sold them with Ford (Mazda Proceed), Dodge/Plymouth (Mitsubishi Forte), or Chevrolet (Isuzu Faster) badges here. Ford developed the Ranger and killed the Courier for 1983 (though Americans could still buy the Mazda-badged version all the way through 1993), while The General axed the LUV after the S-10 debuted in the 1982 model year. Isuzu sold the same truck as the P'up through 1987, though, and we might as well follow up our recent P'up Junkyard Gem with its LUV predecessor. LUV stood for Light Utility Vehicle, and I've managed to spot a handful in the boneyards over the years. This one now resides in a yard in northeastern Colorado. The Mikado trim package included striped seat upholstery and a sporty steering wheel, plus these cool dash badges. As far as I can tell, no LUV Mikado advertising featured any Gilbert and Sullivan tunes. This one is fairly rusty for Front Range Colorado, and it has endured a bed swap from some other small truck. The engine is the 75-horse Isuzu 1.8-liter. Members of this engine family went into everything from Chevy Chevettes to Isuzu Troopers in the United States. Very unusually for a small pickup during the Malaise Era, this one has a luxurious automatic transmission. Acceleration must have been a leisurely affair in this truck. Air conditioning? Unheard of! Someone stuck every one of their lunchtime apple stickers on the driver's door. After 41 years of work, this truck is done. Come on strong in a LUV of your own!
GM is the latest automaker accused of diesel emissions cheating
Thu, May 25 2017Volkswagen and Ram need to make room on the diesel-emissions bench for General Motors. America's largest automaker was accused in a lawsuit on Thursday of rigging hundreds of thousands of diesel trucks with at least three so-called defeat devices to ensure that the trucks would meet federal and state emission standards, even if they generated more pollution in real-world driving. According to the complaint, on-road emissions testing conducted for the plaintiffs found that Duramax-equipped trucks produced NOx pollutants, comprised of nitrogen and oxygen atoms, two to five times higher than legally permitted, and "many times" higher than their gasoline counterparts. The proposed class-action lawsuit was filed in federal court in Detroit on behalf of people who own or lease more than 705,000 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks fitted with "Duramax" engines from 2011 to 2016 model years. The lawsuit seeks remedies including possible refunds or restitution for lost vehicle value, plus punitive damages. It adds to legal problems for Detroit-based GM, which has already paid about $2.5 billion in penalties and settlements over faulty ignition switches linked to 124 deaths. GM joins at least five automakers whose diesel emissions have been scrutinized by regulators or consumers. They include VW, which has admitted to cheating; Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler; Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Peugeot and Renault. GM spokesman Dan Flores called the claims "baseless," and said the trucks comply with US Environmental Protection Agency emissions standards and California's own tough standards. Shares of GM were down 69 cents, or 2.1 percent, at $32.50 in afternoon trading, after earlier falling to $31.93. The GM lawsuit was filed by several law firms, including Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro, which helped reach multibillion-dollar settlements with VW on behalf of drivers and dealers. The case is Fenner et al v General Motors LLC et al, US District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, No. 17-11661. The named plaintiffs are Andrei Fenner of Mountain View, California and Joshua Herman of Sulphur, Louisiana. They said they would not have bought their respective 2011 Sierra and 2016 Silverado trucks, or would have paid less for them, had they known about the alleged rigging. Joseph Spak, an RBC Capital Markets analyst, in a research report said "negative publicity" from the lawsuit could drive buyers to trucks from Ford or even Fiat Chrysler's Ram.
Watch this creative way to pull a truck's engine
Fri, 08 Mar 2013Living in an apartment complex has its benefits, but for shade-tree mechanics who like/need to work on their own cars, it definitely has a number of disadvantages. Relatively simple tasks such as brake jobs and oil changes are difficult when you don't have dedicated driveway space, to say nothing of more in-depth repairs... like pulling an engine, for example.
For these types of challenges, a little ingenuity and plenty of muscle are needed to get the job done. Scroll down to watch these four men snatch the V8 out of a Chevrolet K1500 using nothing but a chain, landscape timber and good ol' fashioned brute strength. Good work, gentlemen.
