1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Sedan Resto Mod on 2040-cars
Big Bear City, California, United States
|
Up for bid is a 1957 Chevy Bel Air Sedan. I bought this car from the original owners daughter in 2007. She lived in the Los Angles area where the car spent most of its life. It was a nice driver and was black with a white top and was a 350/4 speed car. Also the car was featured in Motor Trend magazine in 1970. It was used in an article "Updating Your Power Train". They put a 69 corvette 350 motor, corvette rally wheels and the vett steering wheel and stereo in the car and did an article on it. The car still had the same set up when I bought it. So I started to fix a few things likes brakes and a coolant leak and next thing you know i pull the body off and do a frame off build on the whole car.
So here is a down and dirty on the car. Merlin 540 big block built by John Beck/Pro Machine in Chico Ca. The motor is purpose built as a fun street driver. Dyno tested to 640hp on pump gas. I have all receipts and specs as well as dyno sheets. Transmission is a turbo 400 with a Gear Vendors over and under drive unit which gives the car a 6 speed transmission. Rear end is a Currie Ford 9" posi with 4:11 gear ratio but note that in overdrive with the Gear Vendors unit on the rear end ratio drops to a 308. 4 link rear suspension with QA-1 coil overs at all for corners. Tubular front a-arms, 4 wheel disc brakes with a hydro boost braking system. Hydro boost braking is ran by the power steering pump and this car stops on a dime. Vintage Air conditioning in a custom leather interior stitched by Ron Mangus. Lexus electric front buckets, power windows, custom stereo by Stereo Bob using a Pioneer head unit, 5 channel amp,and 10" sub woofer. Auto Meter instruments watch the rpms, mph, oil psi, water temp, trans temp, volts, and fuel. Paint is PPG Blazing Copper done by Doug Starbuck of Starside Design in Riverside Ca. The Paint is flawless!! Fire wall is shave as well as fender well, rear deck lid and hood. Front and rear bumpers are shaved and rear bumper from a station wagon allowing the license plate to be mounted on the bumper rather than on the trunk lid. Halibrand rims with BFGs up front and Hoosier Pro Street radials in the rear. The rear was mini tubbed to fit the almost 13" wide rear tire. This car has been in only 4 car shows and the biggest to date the 2012 Grand National Roadster Show. The car received a participant award which places it in the top 5 of the semi custom class. There are only 250 miles on the car since completion. The car is amazing to drive. It has a vintage hot rod look with all the modern amenities of a resto mod. The sound from the engine through the 3" exhaust and Flowmaster mufflers is flat awesome! This car is a turn key driver that sounds amazing and has the power to back it up. I spent 4 years, countless hours and a grip of money building this car. If you are a serious buyer feel free to call me for more details. 714-402-1034 Please contact me prior to end of auction if you intend to buy the car. $1000 deposit via Paypal immediately following end of auction. All shipping to be worked out by buyer. |

Can Fernando Alonso win Indy? Here's why and why maybe not
Sat, May 27 2017SPEEDWAY, IN – The month of May has been a joy ride for Fernando Alonso at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The two-time Formula 1 champion came to Indy having never turned left in a race car without also turning right. But he acquired such a feel for Indy's 2 1/2 -mile rectangle during a month of practice and qualifying that he's considered a strong contender to win the 101st Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, rookie or not. "You're not trying to bring somebody on who has very little experience driving very high-performance cars," said 2003 Indy 500 winner Gil deFerran, who this month has helped Alonso learn the nuances that make the speedway such a tough place to conquer. "I suppose it would be a little bit different if you were dealing with a younger, much less experienced person." Driving a McLaren Honda from the potent Andretti Autosport team, Alonso was consistently near the top of the speed charts in practice, he qualified fifth fastest at 231.300 mph, and he handled runs in heavy traffic like a driver who'd done it many times before. But those were the prelims. The race is another creature. "The car felt the best (it has) in the last two weeks. I was making some moves, taking some different lines. I am extremely happy." Other drivers say the speedway looks different on race day when the crowd, expected to top 300,000, fills the grandstands and makes an already narrow track seem even tighter. The three-wide rolling start is something Alonso has never experienced, and he will see the green flag from the middle of the second row between Takuma Sato and J.R. Hildebrand. And the space he'll be given by his competitors in the first 180 laps may disappear In the last 20 when it's every driver for themselves. Can a rookie like Alonso win this race? Absolutely, as Andretti driver Alexander Rossi showed last year when his team used a fuel-mileage strategy to win in his first taste of Indy. We're talking about Fernando Alonso here, who easily could show his rookie stripes to the rest of the field most of the day. His best lap in Friday's final practice, 226.608, was fifth fastest in the field and, more important, he said the car felt comfortable in heavy traffic. "The car felt the best (it has) in the last two weeks," Alonso said. "I was making some moves, taking some different lines.
Zombie cars: 9 discontinued vehicles that aren't dead yet
Thu, Jan 6 2022Car models come and go, but as revealed by monthly sales data, once a car is discontinued, it doesn't just disappear instantly. And in the case of some models, vanishing into obscurity can be a slow, tedious process. That's the case with the 12 cars we have here. All of them have been discontinued, but car companies keep racking up "new" sales with them. There are actually more discontinued cars that are still registering new sales than what we decided to include here. We kept this list to the oldest or otherwise most interesting vehicles still being sold as new, including a supercar. We'll run the list in alphabetical order, starting with *drumroll* ... BMW 6 Series: 55 total sales BMW quietly removed the 6 Series from the U.S. market during the 2019 model year. It had been available in three configurations, a hardtop coupe, a convertible and a sleek four-door coupe-like shape. Â BMW i8: 18 total sales We've always had a soft spot for the BMW i8, despite the fact that it never quite fit into a particular category. It was sporty, but nowhere near as fast as similarly-priced competitors. It looked very high-tech and boasted a unique carbon fiber chassis design and a plug-in hybrid powertrain, but wasn't really designed for maximum efficiency or maximum performance. Still, the in-betweener was very cool to look at and drive, and 18 buyers took one home over the course of 2021. Â Chevy Impala: 750 total sales The Impala represented classic American tastes at a time when American tastes were shifting away from soft-riding sedans with big interior room and trunk space and into higher-riding crossovers. A total of 750 sales were inked last year. Â Chrysler 200: 15 total sales The Chrysler 200 was actually a pretty nice sedan, with good looks and decent driving dynamics let down by a lack of roominess, particularly in the back seat. Of course, as we said regarding the Chevy Impala, the number of Americans in the market for sedans is rapidly winding down, and other automakers are following Chrysler's footsteps in canceling their slow-selling four-doors. Even if Chrysler never really found its footing in the ultra-competitive midsize sedan segment, apparently dealerships have a few leftover 2017 200s floating around. And for some reason, 15 buyers decided to sign the dotted line to take one of these aging sedans home last year.
GM files for Z71 Trail Boss trademark
Mon, Jan 26 2015Try as they might to keep their plans a secret, automakers have their hands tipped through a variety of methods – be they through loose lips, spy shots or patent and trademark applications. That's how we know, in this instance, that General Motors is working on (or at least considering) an off-road machine wearing the name Z71 Trail Boss – the name which our compatriots at AutoGuide.com tell us that GM has registered for use on light-duty trucks. Now if that alphanumeric designator sounds familiar, it should. GM has long used it to designate the off-road packages on many of its body-on-frame trucks from Chevy and GMC. These days you can order a Z71 package on the Chevy Colorado, Silverado, Tahoe and Suburban and on the GMC Canyon, Sierra and Yukon. The package typically includes components like a beefed-up suspension bits, high-capacity air cleaner and underbody protection plates. The Trail Boss designator would seem to suggest something further reaching than a suspension package, though. Just what it would entail we don't know; minds immediately start running toward Chevy or GMC going after the Ford F-150 Raptor, but we'll likely be looking at something closer to the Trailhawk packages Jeep offers on the likes of the Renegade and Cherokee.
