It pains me to do this, but I am putting up for sale my largely original and unmolested FJ40. I have owned this truck for 25 years with the intention of passing it down to my son, but he's not the gear head I am, and the truck sees very little driving, so it makes sense to pass it on to a fresh home.

The truck has been well maintained and taken care of, but shows signs of its years and use as well as typical rust, which is largely due to it's time in Texas, where I purchased the truck. However, the truck has been in arid New Mexico for most of my years of ownership, and it has the original paint, which has held up very well and still has a remarkable shine.

This truck has 181,000 original miles, and as previously described carries the original paint - a rarity even with low mileage FJ40's;you will know EXACTLY what you are getting. I have looked at many, many FJ40's over the years, and spent 2+ years looking for a solid well-maintained truck before I came across this one. The vast majority of the Land Cruisers I have seen have been repainted, and yes - they usually look good, but it's difficult to know exactly what you're really getting body-wise with a repainted vehicle.

This FJ40 is fully loaded with the original factory options of; 1) power steering, 2) power brakes (with disk brakes on the front), wagon-style wheels (including spare tire) instead of basic steel wheels, pinstripping and factory A/C.

The following have been added to the truck over the years:

Cruise Control, which works well,

Header and stainless steel exhaust system,

An alarm system, which includes a pager that can receive an alarm trigger signal from the vehicle of up to a 1/4 mile away, depending on conditions. System was disconnected probably fifteen years ago.

AM/FM/Cassette Stereo, power amp (I believe 50watts per side) and fully enclosed rear speakers so that you can actually have a quality audio experience.

An antenna capable of both receiving and broadcasting.

Window tinting that is not in the greatest shape on the driver and passenger door windows, but otherwise not too bad.

Suspension bushings and shocks replaced several years ago with polyurethane and Rancho 5000 shocks.

An aftermarket heavy duty rear bumper.

Updated Warn Front axle manual hubs.

Overhead gear tray mounted out of sight above the sun visors. The stereo and alarm system components are mounted here out of sight.

Replaced both sideview mirrors.

Replaced rubber stripping on all the doors, although the bottom portion on the rear doors has pulled away.

Farm jack mounting brakets on the front end.

Wheel locks.

The original horn was replaced with a louder (Maserati) horn.

Replaced the original headlights with off-road motorcycle racing halogen headlamps. Nice and bright. I still have the original headlights, though, if the owner wants OEM headlamps.

Plenty of parts replaced over the years with OEM parts.

Rust Description:

The driver's side floor board has rust damage with cracks and holes that go through the metal floor board and a bit of the passenger side floor board rust, along with rust holes in several sections of the back deck. There are also signs of rust along the exterior seems of the the back deck, and the rear quarter panels bottom edges, along with lots of little exterior side rust specks (where the paint has chipped) and where various scratches and nicks in the paint have occurred.

I have included several photos of the rusted areas, and am happy to take additional photos, if helpful to a serious buyer. By no means is this truck a rust bucket, though.

Broken/In need of replacement :

The lid to the small ashtray (approx 2” x 2”) located at the back of the center console between the front seats is broken.

The driver's seat belt is fraying a bit, but is not in need of replacement – just noting it.

The driver's seat is in need of an upholstery job. I have a local upholstery shop sourcing as close a match to the original gray vinyl as possible (the vinyl from aftermarket companies look different to me), and the seat will be repaired within the next two weeks.

The front floor mat is worn through significantly on the driver's side floor.

The right rear ambulance door plastic interior pull handle is missing.

The windshield wiper fluid jets do not work.

There are a few chips and cracks in the windshield, but I do not find the cracks to be an issue.

The headliner is original and discolored and has dropped in sections. I have ordered another one, and will have it installed.

The front door panels were cut for speakers before I purchased the truck. The speakers are low end, and I never bothered to hook them up.

Other Commnents/Information:

I have the original owners manual, tire jack kit and both sets of original keys.

The lid has never been off this truck, it has all the original glass and has never been in an accident. The interior is in good to very good condition with the exception of the driver's seat, there is one small split in the dash and the mats both front and rear are original. The window rubber seals are in good shape with just a few small sections showing wear. All linterior lighting, gauges and switches/knobs work.

As shown in the photos, the truck has a Yakima gear rack on the roof and front bicycle wheel fork on the roof. Not pictured is a Yakima locking SproketRocket mount for one bicycle as well as a new/unused gear basket which will be included with the truck. Also – I have a set of high-end heavy duty snow chains that have never been used that will be included.

The tires are BFGoodrich Radial All Terrains with lots of tread left.

I should have most, if not all, of the repair and service records for the last 25 years, although as of this writing I'm still looking for my file on the truck.

Everything is fully functional and working on the truck with the exception of the windshield wiper fluid jets, front audio speakers and alarm system. Both front and back heaters work well, as does the factory A/C.

All fluids have been checked and changed and the diff and transfer case fluids have always been properly maintained. The transfer case and transmission are solid and smooth and the updated Warn front hubs function properly.

The truck runs very well, still handles uphill grades with little fade, and the front end tracks and drives very nicely – no “wandering” whatsoever– even at highway speeds. The truck is a joy to drive, and I would not hesitate loading it up and driving it cross country tomorrow.
