OVERVIEW

 

You know I am a certified truck nut already, so when I had a friend tell me about a local race-car builder getting rid of his personal toy, I just HAD to go check it out, and I am glad I did!

 

This 1968 C10 short bed was just completed in January of this year, and has just over 1,600 miles since being completely restored.

 

It comes with a few boxes of extra parts (some new, some original, and some replacement), a folder full of receipts and documentation showing all the money and time spent on this machine, as well as the detailed engine specs so you know what you have under the hood.

 

It is a great looking, great driving, and freshly done pickup that is ready to take you wherever you want to go.

DESCRIPTION

 

 

Vivid Orange. That’s what PPG calls the incredible, slick, glossy, and mile-deep paint that adorns this 1968 Chevy C10. Yes, the truck you see in the 75 extra-large photos looks almost TOO nice, but that is only because it spent the past two years undergoing a complete and thorough restoration that left practically no nut, bolt, or part untouched.

 

The finish is in fantastic condition, and looks glossy, slick, and wet from every angle. It has just a handful or so little minor stone chips and marks from normal use, but nothing out of the ordinary, and certainly nothing that detracts from the overall appearance of the truck.

 

You could take this truck to any local or regional show right now, and the finish will turn heads with the best of them. Plus, remember that this truck has NOT BEEN professionally detailed, so it will show even nicer after you clean it from front to back!

 

The documented restoration shows that prior to getting treated to the multiple hand sanded coats of PPG paint and clear, the truck was also treated to new fenders, doors, and other parts that were professionally installed and fit to the truck.

 

It also shows that all of the rubber moldings, weather stripping, and seals were newly installed, along with the majority of the exterior trim components.

 

Glass looks like new all around because the majority of it is. What isn’t was in exceptional condition, so it was cleaned and reused.

 

Chrome and aluminum trim on the truck looks fantastic, and dresses up the look, including grill inserts, headlamp trim rings, door handles, mirrors, chrome bumper, front and rear side lights, window trim, window visors, and the CHEVY emblems on the sides of the truck.

 

It rides on a set of 12-hole show polished 6-lug aluminum rims from PACER that look fantastic, and have only 1,600 odd miles of normal wear and patina.

 

Tires are like new FIRESTONE DESTINATION radials, sized 235/75R15. They have just over 1,600 miles on them, and show no damage or abnormal wear.

 

It has a smoothed roll pan in the back from LMC Truck, a REESE style box hitch with pre-run wiring lead, and all of the lights from the headlights to the license plate are new units from LMC.

 

The tonneau cover on the truck is a fixed mount unit that is lockable, and lifts up from the back on assist arms to allow access to the bed. It is clean, neat, and shows no signs of rips or damage. It comes with two function keys as well.

 

The bed itself is original, and the it was decided that the floor would not be cut out and replaced, so although it shows little dents and marks from being used as (gasp!) a truck bed, it is solid and supportive. The bed sides and wheel tubs are in great condition, and show just a handful of marks from hauling car show chairs, and other things. All of the mounting hardware is new as well.

 

In the photos below, you will see that the bed has a few boxes in it. Those are a bunch of NOS parts, maintenance parts, leftover weather stripping and window seals, and other assorted goodies that the prior owner felt should go along with the truck. Not really sure what all is in them, but they are free with the truck, so have fun looking through it all!

 

That essentially covers the exterior of the truck, so let’s move to the chassis.

 

This truck has been in the south since it was sold new at KIDD MOTORS in Hartwell, GA on 05/20/1968. The original service/warranty booklet is included with the truck, and shows the date of sale. That has kept the frame clean and solid without the need to cover it up with gobs of undercoating to hide things. It is simply bare metal, with the black paint chipped and marked in spots from being driven.

 

Upfront, all of the suspension components were replaced with new parts and the 1” drop new coil springs were installed.

 

In the rear, new 3” drop coil springs were put in to give it a lower, more level look, and all of the suspension bits were replaced as well.

 

New OEM style shocks all around gives the truck a nice ride, without feeling loose on the freeway.

 

Receipts for all new bushings, bearings, control arms, and tracking arm are included too.

 

The GM 12 bolt rear end was stripped, cleaned, and filled with new 3.73 gears, axles, and seals. All of its mounting hardware was replaced as well.

 

The entire braking system was cleaned and rebuilt from the pads to the pedal, and the lines and booster were replaced with new items as well. It stops like a dream, without any abnormal fade, pulling, or excess modulation. 

 

Power steering is a remanufactured GM unit and works perfectly, making this truck light and easy enough for practically any driver to handle.

 

The exhaust system is a custom made aluminum unit with modest sounding mufflers that give it a throaty sound, but nothing too obnoxious.

 

The underside is clean and solid from front to back, and you could pressure wash and wipe some of the road grime off of it and it will show even nicer.

That’s pretty much the big stuff, but one glance under the hood shows you that it is all new or refurbished and it runs fantastic!

 

The transmission is a GM TH350 Turbo that was rebuilt with the following:

This thing shifts like a dream, and has plenty of power off the line if burnouts are your thing, but mild manners make it perfect for daily use around town or on the highway.

 

The truck starts, idles, and runs fantastic. Snick it into gear and it is ready to roll wherever you want to go.

 

Power is smooth and steady, and the truck drives like a much newer vehicle in every aspect.

 

Downshifts are solid, and the kickdown lets you pile on the power for passing or showing off.

 

The truck does not do anything funny, and it doesn’t exhibit any signs of mechanical or function issues of any kind.

 

I have driven it for about 140 miles, here in town and on a 80 mile round trip highway run. It is a confidence inspiring truck that you can use like a daily driver without worry.

 

It never comes close to getting hot, idles solid all day, warm or cold, and makes you feel like you are in a new truck when you are behind the wheel.

 

Rides great, handles great, steers great, stops great. I can’t find anything bad to say about it based on my seat time with it.

 

Speaking of seat time, when you are inside the cab, the seat is a great spot to take in all of the beautiful interior from!

 

Practically everything here is new, and it all looks fantastic!

 

The bench seat was removed, re-sprung, and stuffed before the new seat cover was installed. It shows wonderfully with no cuts, rips, seam pulls, or damage.

 

Carpet kit is from LMC, and is installed over ¼” heat and sound insulation. It shows like new, and has no stains, rips, or damage. Maybe hit it with the vacuum when you get it home, that’s all!

 

Door panels, headliner, and visors are all LMC Truck, and they all look exceptional!

 

Rollers, door pulls, and armrests all are in exceptional condition as well.

 

Windows go up and down on brand new regulators and fuzzies.

 

The dash is painted to match the exterior of the truck, and it has been fit with a brand new gauge insert panel, and a mix of original and aftermarket gauges including the SunPro in-dash tachometer and a full complement of Auto-Meter gauges for monitoring the trucks vitals.

 

The headlight and wiper switches are new units as well, and the original steering column was cleaned and painted prior to being topped with a leather wrapped billet steering wheel with the CHEVY logo in the center.

 

An original looking radio with a modern digital tuner was installed, and it has expansion capabilities as well. It sounds great through the new speakers, and works wonderfully.

 

A new air control panel was installed along with the new heater box and hoses, and it works perfectly to provide you with more than enough heat and defrost for you cold weather buyers.

 

Ashtray opens up and is clean, so apparently this was not a smoker’s vehicle. Also, it has NO odors of any kind, and came from a pet free home.

 

The 12 VOLT receptacle has a cigar lighter in it that matches the switches for the lights and wipers.

 

Glove box opens and has the correct cardboard liner inside.

 

A LOKAR styled shifter is floor mounted, and has the boot and polished trim ring to make it look as great as it works.

 

Pedals have new covers on them, and a set of heavy duty rubber “HEARTBEAT OF AMERICA” floor mats are included.

 

The dash pad is in like-new condition, and overall the inside of the truck shows like new from every angle.

 

The only thing not functioning is the dome light, and it works about 60% of the time. Perhaps it is a loose wire or bulb. I will try to address it if I get time, and will update the listing when I do.

 

That about sums it up! There is a thick folder full of receipts, specifications, and documentation on the truck, and it comes with it, along with the original warranty booklet and the current tire warranty, which may or may not be transferable to the new owner.

 

You can fly in and drive home if you want, or I can assist in arranging quality, inexpensive transport, as we ship vehicles all across the globe on a monthly basis.
