Please note that experience shows us that the photobucket of over 100 large pixel pictures posted here are in most cases best viewed and downloaded using the very latest and most updated version of the 'Firefox' browser as some other browsers and especially older browser versions are not capable of accommodating the size of the download. Over the years our clients have overwhelmingly been appreciative of our many unaltered large pixel photos posted in our ads and our feedback has been that it is very rare that a seller will post all but the most flattering of photographs. We prefer to expose the complete roll of film taken of the car, in sometimes unflattering but natural sunlight, in order for our prospective buyers to be able to see true and reliable images of the car advertised and that is the reason for some seemingly duplicated shots. We trust you will agree.

West Coast Classics are proud to present an absolutely exceptional and fully loaded very low original mileage example of this 1997, the last year imported to the U.S., Land Rover Defender 90 (#023). The Defender 90 had been in production since 1991 and was first imported to the U.S and Canada in 1994. It has not met U.S safety requirements since 1998, when air bags and side door impact requirements sealed its fate. Land Rover did not consider it economically viable, due to the extremely low number of Defender's being exported to the U.S, to invest in the high cost of modifications required to meet new U.S standards, which in any case could not be practically fitted to this most classic and ultimate examples of military style sport utility vehicles.

The initial export to the U.S in 1993 consisted of 525 'Defender 110' 4 door County Station Wagons (500 to the U.S and 25 to Canada). They were fitted with a 3.9L V8 engine and a 5 speed manual transmission. From 1994-95 the new Defender 90 was imported which also sported the 3.9L engine and 5 speed manual transmission. There were no imports in the year 1996 and finally in 1997, the final year for U.S imports, the Defender 90 reached its ultimate incarnation with these rare and luxurious Hardtop models, with an improved 4.0L V8 engine mated to 4 speed automatic transmission, a sunroof and 4 rear 'Safari-style' rear jump seats amongst other notable upgrades.

This particular six passenger 1997 Land Rover 'Defender 90' 2 Door Hardtop 4.0L V8 4WD SUV with 4 speed automatic transmission boasts rare factory Air Conditioning, a CD Player/DVD/Navigation system, Front Hella Driving Lamps, Front Lamp Brush & Bumper Guards, an electric power front deluxe 'Warn' Self-Recovery Winch with deluxe ARB Bull Bar, permanent 4 wheel drive and all disc braking. It has a fixed aluminum roof with a factory sunroof and padded roll bars, 4 rear 'Safari-style' rear jump seats, bolted on body protection in the form of large diamond plate sheets, Running boards, Swing-out tailgate, Rear window defogger, Roll down windows and Sliding rear windows.

A recent inspection shows the vehicle to have good tires, good brakes, no faults in the engine or transmission computer system and working A/C and heater. It has no signs or history of any accidents or rust of any kind and sports it's still gorgeous original factory 'Alpine White' paint which is in exceptional condition with virtually no noticeable imperfections apart from maybe one very small ding on the driver's side rear Hardtop by the roofline (see photos below). The 'Light Ash Gray' twill interior with original full factory Land Rover mats is also in exceptionally clean condition throughout and the headliner is also in quite exceptional condition. The vehicle also has a factory lockable center console box with a desirable after market automatically uploading 'Kenwood' CD player/DVD/Navigation system. It should be noted from looking over this magnificent example that although fully loaded for the purpose it would appear to have never been off road and has no rust whatsoever - obviously a cherished and babied model by it's previous owner's ready for it's ultimate destiny - you!

This rare vehicle truly has to be seen and driven to be fully appreciated - it drives like new with no noticeable oil leaks, the temperature always remains cool and the transmission shifts smooth and precisely through the gears and without the excessive backlash that causes clunking noises - especially in stop and go traffic like so many used and higher mileage Defenders! The vehicle has four good BF Goodrich all terrain tires, every options works as it should including the ice-cold A/C and the vehicle has a current California smog certificate and a clean CARFAX report.

This rare and highly desirable 1997 Land Rover Defender 90 4.0L V8 4WD is as fine an example as you might hope to find with ultra low original miles of only 32,140 currently - this is an incomparable and legendary 4WD SUV driving vehicle for the ultimate in rugged all terrain off-road capability in this most desirable of luxurious models and color combinations and loaded with expensive and desirable options!
