 Description

What happens when you take a beautiful, numbers matching 1971 Plymouth GTX U-Code 440 car and turn it into your dream car, a ’71 Hemi GTX with massive Hemi performance and all of the creature comforts needed to be able to drive the car every day if you choose to do so? Well look closely folks ‘cause here she is! Feast your eyes on this absolutely gorgeous 1971 Plymouth GTX Hemi, the result of a 10-year restoration, countless man-hours and too much money to even try and calculate. Let me start at the beginning and decode the original Fender Tag to see how this beauty left the factory. FIRST ROW: (E86) 440ci 370 hp motor, (D32) A727 3-Speed Automatic Transmission, (RS23U1G147702) VIN. SECOND ROW: (GY9) Tawny Gold Metallic, (P6Y3) Premium Vinyl Bucket Seats Light Gold, (GY4) Gold Upper Door Frame, (B19) Scheduled Production Date November 19, 1970, (115863) Vehicle Order Number. THIRD ROW: (V1X) Black Vinyl Top, (U) Built For USA Specifications, (A01) Light Package, (A04) Basic Radio Group, (B41) Front Disc Brakes, (B51) Power Brakes. FOURTH ROW: (C16) Console w/ Woodgrain Panel, (C55) Bucket Seats, (G33) Left Hand OS Remote Mirror, (J25) 3-Speed Windshield Washer, (J52) Inside Hood Release. FIFTH ROW: (M21) Drip Rail Mouldings, (M25) Body Sill Mouldings, (M31) Body Belt Mouldings, (N41) Dual Exhaust System, (N42) Bright Exhaust Tips. SIXTH ROW: (R11) AM Music Master Radio, (V21) Performance Hood Treatment, (V7X) Black Accent Stripes, (END). She has had only (2) owners since 1980, one for 17 years and the next for 16 ½ years. I was told that the only sheet metal replaced was the addition of the correct (N96) Air-Grabber hood, which works better than new. She was repainted in the original (GY9) Tawny Gold Metallic lacquer paint, which still shows beautifully and a complete new interior was installed in the correct (P6Y3) Light Gold, w/ Dymamat sound-deadening material installed throughout, which really makes a huge difference. The dash pad is excellent and dash panel has been fully restored. All of the gauges work perfectly, including the aftermarket gauges w/ tachometer. Classic Auto Air AC, which blows ice-cold, was installed with all of the vents color coordinated to match the dash. A custom Kenwood KDC-2019 AM/FM/CD sound system was installed, with Jensen Triax 9” 3-Way speakers in the rear package tray & 5 ¼” Pioneer 3-Way speakers mounted under the dash at downward angles. All of this custom work was professionally done and looks absolutely great. Again, everything works beautifully including the cool Air Grabber switch, which was changed over to a Norgren 5-way pneumatic valve & not the factory type. The Air Grabber door can be operated many times after the engine has been shut off and is absolutely leak-free. Now, let’s get to the heart of this beast, shall we? Open up the hood and the first thing you notice is how incredible detailed the engine bay is, with beautiful custom stainless steel work throughout. These covers can be easily removed to suit anyone’s personal taste. This is a show quality engine compartment through & through with too many details to list. The original numbers matching 440ci/370hp motor (which goes with the car of course) was removed and replaced w/ a Mopar Performance 426 Hemi w/ 9:1 compression, 278 degree cam, .495”/.480” lift w/ 465 hp & 485 Ft./Lbs. Torque, complete w/ Demon carburetor, MSD 6A electronic ignition module & MP distributor wires. A set of repro cast-iron exhaust manifolds w/ Jet-Hot Sterling coating are hooked up to 2 ½” Mandrell bent tubes, a Dr. Gas X-Pipe and stainless Dynomax mufflers w/ original ‘machine gun’ style tips. The 426ci Hemi is linked to a Tremec TKO-500 5-Speed transmission (kit supplied by Keisler Engineering) w/ new aluminum bellhousing and McLeod clutch/flywheel, which feeds power to a Dana 60 3.54 rear axle, built by DTS w/ Strange 35-spline axles and premium Powerloc Limited Slip. Of course, a new Hurst Pistol-Grip shifter is present w/ a 5-Speed bezel. The Front Disc brakes were upgraded to 11 ¾” Cordoba rotors for incredible stopping power. All new bearings, seals, hoses, hardware and SS brake tubing were used, as well as a Master Power Brakes stainless steel 8” dual diaphragm brake booster & matching dual master cylinder w/ proper disc brake combination valve & Wilwood proportioning valve at rear. The GTX already came w/ heavy-duty suspension but was upgraded to Polygraphite bushings up front, bumped up to .960 torsion bars and Edelbrock Inertia Active shocks. All new ball joints, steering components, idler arm tie-rods and tie-rod ends. The rear suspension received new Mopar Performance Hemi leaf springs w/ 6 full leaves on the left and 5 full leaves & 2 half leaves on the right. New shackles, bushings & KYB shocks were also installed. Steer & Gear rebuilt the power steering gearbox to Firm Feel Stage II specs for a much less over-assisted feel. This Hemi GTX starts, runs, drives, steers & brakes beautifully in every way and is an absolute BLAST to drive! She shifts smooth, clean & tight with no issues whatsoever. This is a Hemi car that be driven from coast to coast without a worry in the world, and in total comfort to boot. She’s got a beautiful stance and sits on new 15”x7” Ralley Wheels by Wheel Vintiques w/ Goodyear Eagle GT II RWL tires all around. This incredible 1971 Plymouth GTX was built to drive & enjoy but I guarantee that you will win some First Place trophies along the way. All of the receipts from the no-expense spared restoration/build, as well as piles of paperwork will go with the car. Again, the original numbers matching 440ci U-Code motor will go with the car as well. Someone is going to get an amazing muscle car for a fraction of what it cost to build.  About Us

RED HILLS RODS and CHOPPERS INC. specializes in rare Muscle Cars, Hot Rods and Custom Choppers. Based in Saint George, Utah, R.H.R.C. was founded by Steven Ray Anastos after he relocated to Utah from Southern California. Steven has been dealing in high-end Mopar Muscle Cars since 2003 where he did business in California under the name "Steve’s Killer Bees".

Having ridden motorcycles his whole life, he decided to expand the business by dealing in Custom Choppers, Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycles in addition to his growing Muscle Car and Hot Rod business. The stunning landscape, beautiful weather, open roads and no helmet laws make Utah the perfect place for such a business.

After finding the ideal location with tons of visibility, Steven opened a brand new showroom in Saint George and plans on being around a very long time. The showroom is very unique as there is nothing else like it in Southern Utah. The area is starving for a taste of the Hot Rod Kulture and R.H.R.C. plans on getting in on the ground floor. They sell Helmets, Goggles, Sunglasses, Hats, Beanies, Jewelry, DVD’s, Books and Hot Rod Collectibles such as Rat Fink, Von Dutch, Clay Smith and Mooneyes. They also market their own line of R.H.R.C. apparel.

Much of their business has been and will continue to be internet-based, especially the sale of their high-end Muscle Cars and Hot Rods as many of them are in the six-figure category. They intend to start selling these rare vehicles locally as there seems to be quite a following for Muscle Cars, Hot Rods and Motorcycles in the Southern Utah area.

R.H.R.C. holds Car Shows and Special Events monthly at their Saint George location so stop by and see their incredible selection of inventory. If you are not already on their mailing list, please call or email with your contact information and they will keep you informed of any and all events.
