This 1960 Mercedes Benz 220SE Cabrio is in Midnight Blue with Grey.

The 220S Mercedes-Benz was introduced at the Frankfurt Auto Show in April 1956. It succeeded the 220 model of 1951 with its traditional tubular chassis frame and it shared some of its mechanical specification. After two years in production, a Bosch fuel-injection system was added to the basic 220S engine to create the 220SE. This not only added 15hp, but also increased engine reliability and thus value.

The range was marketed as a comfortable family car that also provided the performance of a lively sports model. In July 1959 the production of the saloon ended but the coupe and cabriolet models continued until October of the same year.

This 1960 example was restored to a very high "driver" quality. It is attractively presented in the popular Midnight Blue (color code DB 904) with a complementary grey leather interior. Records indicate that it last changed hands at the Christies Auction in Pebble Beach, CA eight years ago.

Engine: six cylinder, single overhead cam, Bosch fuel injection, 2,195cc, 115bhp at 4,800rpm.

Suspension: front, independent, rear, single joint swing axle, coil springs; Brakes: servo assisted drum. Left hand drive.

The mechanical condition and running gear are in excellent order. The motor is new in the car along with a new clutch.

The oil pressure gage reads at the top of the gage even at idle with the engine at operating temp.

Rebuilt fuel injection pump by Pacific fuel injection.

The wood was redone. A new German canvas top installed. Original radio is in working order.

These handsome cabriolets are relatively rare and are practical classic cars which are escalating in value.

This is a well sorted example that is ready to collect or enjoy.
