1984 Pontiac Trans Am Gale Banks Twin Turbo 204 MPH

It's not often you get to own a car that has been written up in Car & Driver Magazine. Certainly one of the rarest cars of its kind. This is a 1982 Trans Am that Car & Driver Magazine set out to build to reach the elusive 200MPH speed barrier. It takes more than you can imagine to build a car capable of that kind of speed. In the end, they were successful!

With the help of a Gale Banks twin-turbo charged 5.7L V8 making 611hp, a twin-plate Borg & Beck clutch developed for Oldsmobile's drag racing program, Doug Nash 5 Speed Transmission, specially balanced driveshaft (to 7,000 RPM), Ford 9 inch 2.47:1 rear end custom fitted to the TA chassis, Goodyear Eagle VR50 tires, Pontiac's Aero Kit and a special Acme Acryllic Enamel in standard red paint this Trans Am was able to hit 200mph. The original magazine write up from C&D can be read online by clicking here: Car & Driver Magazine Article.

This car was purchased by a private individual after the article was published. I purchased it from him. The car only has 5,185 miles on it. As you can see from the photos the car is in excellent condition. The car is as clean underneath as it is on top. If you are looking for that special car to add to your collection this is it. Even with the tall rear end it still goes 0-60 in 5.9 seconds. Few cars will ever break the 200mph mark. Ferrari 458, Bentley Continental Super Sport Edition, ZR1 Corvette, Lamborghini Murcielago, SLR Mclaren, Bugatti Veyron...You get the idea :-)

This car was at Mecum earlier this year with an estimated value of $80,000-$100,000 and an independant appraisal done by Collector Car Appraisals in Rockford, IL put the value as high as $125,000. Click here to view the Mecum listing.
