EXTERIOR:

The exterior of this 3 Door 1970 Suburban has been repainted at some point over the years and was put back to very close to the original shade of Blue and the roof has been repainted White. The paint looks good from 10 feet but is certainly not a show perfect job. There is some clear peeling on the hood, and general imperfections here and there. Certainly great for a daily driver, but would still greatly benefit from a good wet sanding / buffing / touchup. The only rust present is in the rocker panels (mainly on the passenger side) just like most Chevys tend to do, I have included pictures. The doors are all solid and the locks all work. All crank windows work. The chrome bumpers are brand new front and rear. All lights work just as they should (from headlights all the way to the license plate lights), all glass is in great shape and has been privacy tinted all around, and even the turn signals cancel just like the should! The Suburban is sitting on a set of brand new chrome 18" Ultra Gauntlet wheels that are wrapped in brand new 275/65 Nitto Terra Grappler Tires which really bring the Suburban to life and give it a great look and stance. The spot lights were factory installed since this was a service vehicle, and the mirrors are factory stainless steel frames! The back has the much preferred barn door set up. I'm sure I'm forgetting things, but I have included over 100 pictures of this 70 Suburban to show its true condition, if more are needed feel free to let me know what you're needing to see.

INTERIOR:

The interior of this 1970 3 Door Suburban has been upgraded with newer GM Leather Seats. The front seats are power leather captain chairs out of a 2001 Chevy Silverado complete with matching center console. Yes, both power seats are fully functional and very comfortable! The back seat is out of a 2005 GMC Denali, fits perfectly between the fenderwells, but note that it has not been mounted down; I want the new owner to do this and position it just where they want. All of the interior has been lined with sound deadening insulation. The front passenger area has rubber flooring, while the cargo area is the original wooden floor which is in good, solid shape. The Suburban has been treated to a modern CD Player and has had 4 speakers installed in the doors and rear passenger area. The original steering wheel and dash do show their age as to be expected but I left them original as I thought that was part of the fun and experience. The original gauge cluster is in great shape and all gauges do work though the gas gauge and speedometer aren't quite accurate. My favorite addition to the Suburban is a full Vintage Air Conditioning system that looks factory in the dash, uses factory climate controls, and blows COLD A/C! This system uses the current R134 freon. The factory markings/decals are still on the dash, the options tag is still in the glove box as is the original owners manual. Overall the interior is simple yet functional, and surprisingly comfortable with lots and lots of room. Check out the provided pictures and request more as needed.

DRIVETRAIN:

This 1970 Suburban has the original 350ci V8 Engine that is still in nearly stock trim. The modifications are the Vintage A/C set up, a freshly rebuilt alternator (I had the original unit rebuilt to keep the factory AC Delco casing), and a new water pump. The 350 V8 is backed by the original 4 Speed Manual transmission that shifts just like it should through all gears. The clutch holds great and does not slip. The factory 4x4 system functions just as it should in 2HI, 4HI, and 4LO settings. The Suburban has 3.08 highway gears making cruising at 65-70 very possible without overworking the engine with high RPMs. The front axle has been changed out to one from a 1971 model to gain front power disk brakes! At the time this was done, the front end parts were gone through, and all of the braking system was freshened. This Suburban stops very strong, smooth, and straight!  The exhaust is a true dual setup ran all the way to the back bumper and is given voice by a set of new Flowmaster Super 44 Mufflers. The Suburban isn't necessarily going to blow you away with big HP numbers or quick acceleration, but it does exactly what it needs to do; It sound great, and starts / runs / drives out very well. The Suburban does not smoke, does not have any major leaks, and sounds very tight with no knocks/rattles etc. You'll be very please at how smoothly the engine sounds and revs, it is truly a survivor. I have used it as a daily driver over the past few months, as did the previous owner, and have thoroughly enjoyed it. You get thumbs up and positive comments everywhere you go! This is not something that you see everyday, and infact, most people don't even know that a 3 Door Suburban was ever produced!  Test drives and inspections are welcome and encouraged.

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SUBURBAN:

This 1970 Suburban began life as an Ambulance in the State of Illinois. It was purchased on May 19th, of 1970 by the Saint Joseph Civil Defence in St. Joseph, Ill. The Suburban spend the majority of its life under this ownership and was no doubt well maintained and cared for which would account for its solid mechanical condition today. The Suburban shows 25,500 miles on the odometer, and as recently as when it was titled to the previous owner in 2009, the state of Missouri recognizes the mileage as ACTUAL. Now, I understand that this could be 125,500 or even 225,500 and its not entirely possible to prove beyond the MO paperowork, but I can say that since the Suburban was owned by the State of Illinois for 33 years, and given the solid state of the engine and drive train, it is clear to me that it is going to be toward the lower end of the scale. I also hold the original 1970 title to the Suburban (and even the envelope it was originally mailed in!) which it will be included in the sale. Also included will be the original Factory Owners Manual, as well as 3 pieces of Factory Original Sales Brocures showcasing the 1970 model year of "Chevrolet Movers" including the 3 Door Suburban...All very fun pieces of automotive history.

The Suburban was finally sold by the State of Illinois on June 20, 2003 and went to its new home in Sault Ste Marie, MI. This is where it was repainted and made more "civillian" over the next several years. In June of 2009 the Suburban was purchased by its next owner who lived near Cape Girardeau, MO. At this time the Suburban was driven from its current location in Fargo, ND all the way back to Missouri! This owner is who added the Vintage A/C System, the rebuilt 1971 front end with power disk brakes, the interior sound insulation, and the upgraded late model seats. The Suburban was used there as a daily driver and general utility vehicle. I came to own the Suburban in March of 2013. I received the Suburban as a trade for a newer Toyota Land Cruiser and decided to keep it, fix it up further, and enjoy all of the attention that it brings to my business. At the time of the trade, the Suburban was driven to me in West Plains, MO from Cape Girardeau, MO with no problems and was said to travel very well.  Oddly enough, I have another Land Cruiser now and have decided to let this Suburban go to help me fund the new project.

Have more questions? Feel free to ask! I'm sure I have forgotten some things and will be glad to talk things over.
