1958 Cadillac Fleetwood

Up for sale is another great custom classic Cadillac, brought to you by
Halberd Classics LLC, Antique & Exotic Automobile Brokerage.

This beautiful fully custom 1958 Cadillac Fleetwood is truly a piece of art.  When our client decided to bring his vision to life, he first scoured the country in search of an untouched rust free car.  After finding this Cadillac as a completely original, 1 owner, nicely preserved example, the car was brought to Maryland for a 2 year customization project.

First to give this Cadillac a sleeker look; the door handles were shaved and electronic door poppers were added, mirrors were molded into the doors, access trim was shaved, and the stance of the car was lowered.  Faux side pipe exhaust was added and true dual real exiting exhaust was added with the grumble and roar of any 50’s hot rod.  The body was then painted in a grab everyone’s attention blue.  All of the chrome was replated during the customization and will polish up nicely.

The interior was completely redone in what can best be described as a combination of an original and upgraded look.  This Cadillac is
factory equipped with power windows, which were all reworked.  There is also still the functioning mechanism on the dash that will automatically adjust your high and low beams to oncoming traffic.  The pictures of the interior speak for itself.

The engine and transmission are the original 3’s matching equipment.  Both were gone through during the restoration.  The engine fires right up each and every time and idles nicely.  The transmission shifts smoothly just as it should.  Power brakes were added to provide this big Cadillac with plenty of stopping power.

Whether you are looking for a fun vehicle to cruise around town getting attention in, or simply looking to add an incredible vehicle to your collection; this 1958 Cadillac Fleetwood Custom is the perfect choice.

This is a 7 day auction with a fair reserve, so bid with confidence and bid to own.  The vehicle is for sale locally, so we reserve the right to end the auction early, before the reserve is broken. Please feel free to come inspect this awesome 1958 Cadillac Fleetwood Custom in person.

2014 Cadillac XTS Vsport

Mon, 30 Sep 2013

Not long after bombing around the Milford Road Course in the new CTS Vsport, Cadillac invited me to try out its other new-for-2014 Vsport model: the XTS. And despite using the same twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 from the CTS, the Vsport package takes on a whole new meaning here in Cadillac's softer flagship.
In the CTS, this trim perfectly bridges the gap between the standard models and the hardcore CTS-V, and is focused on being the best-driving version of the range without a standalone V badge. The XTS, however, has no proper V model, so the Vsport becomes the new range-topper for that line by default. But unlike the CTS Vsport, which uses rear-wheel-drive architecture and is focused on driving dynamics above all, the XTS is geared toward a much different customer.
The entire XTS experience is far more concerned with plush comfort than handling prowess, and while this Vsport model certainly ups the ante with more power and some mild suspension and steering tweaks, it's not exactly what we'd call a particularly engaging experience. But that doesn't mean it isn't good.

Cadillac CT6 production ceases January 2020 as part of D-Ham layoffs

Fri, Dec 6 2019

General Motors filed paperwork under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act with Michigan's Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity this week, detailing events to come at the automaker's Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant. Starting February 28, 814 salaried and hourly workers at D-Ham, as its called, will be laid off. The 753 workers represented by the UAW will begin receiving offers in January to relocate to facilities in Michigan and Ohio, or buyout offers. As the 4-million-square-foot plant winds down through April 3 to a skeleton crew, the Cadillac CT6 ceases production in January 2020, and the last Chevrolet Impala comes off the line on February 28. The loss of the CT6 represents the end of Cadillac's latest brief, and highly regarded, adventure into flagship sedans. It might also mean the end of the 4.2-liter Blackwing twin-turbo V8 engine, at least for the moment. Both casualties are calamities. The death of the Impala closes the door on a nameplate in production for 52 years since 1957, having started off as a top-tier trim for the 1958 Bel Air known as the Bel Air Impala, once advertised with the line, "Lets you know you're the boss." As part of the new four-year labor agreement with the UAW, GM is keeping D-Ham open to build a new line of battery-electric vehicles, ultimately investing $3 billion and tripling employment to 2,225 workers when fully operational. The agreement described the coming EV as a "van" that would commence production in late 2021, but various reports say what's actually coming is a range of premium EVs in pickup and SUV bodystyles under the program codename BT1. The easy predictions put an electric GMC Sierra and Cadillac Escalade among the EV fold, but not until 2023, according to auto industry forecaster LMC Automotive. Before that, LMC claims an electric van will debut in late 2021, along with a battery-powered rebirth of the Hummer brand in pickup and SUV forms, also in late 2021.

Teaching autonomous vehicles to drive like (some) humans

Mon, Oct 16 2017

While I love driving, I can't wait for fully autonomous vehicles. I have no doubt they'll reduce car accidents, 94 percent of which are caused by human error, leading to more than 37,000 road deaths in the U.S. last year. And if it means I can fly home at night in winter and get safely shuttled to my house an hour-plus away — and not have to endure a typical white-knuckle drive in the dark with torrential rain and blinding spray from 18-wheelers on Interstate 84 — sign me up. Autonomous technology will also take some of the stress, tedium and fatigue out of long highway drives, as I recently discovered while testing Cadillac Super Cruise. AVs are also supposed to eventually help increase traffic flow and reduce gridlock. But according to a recent Automotive News article, as the first wave of AVs are being tested on public roads, they're having the opposite effect. Part of the problem is they drive too cautiously and are programmed to strictly follow the written rules of the road rather than going with the flow of traffic. "Humans violate the rules in a safe and principled way, and the reality is that autonomous vehicles in the future may have to do the same thing if they don't want to be the source of bottlenecks," Karl Iagnemma, CEO of self-driving technology developer NuTonomy, told Automotive News. "You put a car on the road which may be driving by the letter of the law, but compared to the surrounding road users, it's acting very conservatively." I get it that, like teen drivers, AVs need a ramp up period to learn the unwritten rules of the road and that a skeptical public has to be convinced of the technology's safety. But this is where I become less of a champion on AVs, since where I live in the Pacific Northwest we already have more than our share of overly cautious human drivers. Since moving here 12 years ago, I've found it's an interesting paradox that a region famous for its strong coffee, where you'd think most drivers would be jacked up on caffeine, is also the home to annoyingly measured motorists. As an auto-journo colleague living in Seattle so aptly put it: "People in the Pacific Northwest drive as if they have nowhere to go." If you drive like me and always have somewhere to go — and usually are in a hurry to get there — it's absolutely maddening.
