I am a collector of 1993-96 Cadillac Fleetwood Broughams. They are my hobby and my passion. It is my opinion that these are the best luxury Cadillacs made. Offered for sale below is one of my best - 1996 Brougham, Dark Calypso Green with a rare hardtop and velour cloth interior.

SYNOPSIS:  Virtually showroom new, 50,366 pristine, garaged, pampered, AutoCheck clean miles, mechanically perfect, rare hardtop, upgraded velour cloth seats, non-smoker, excellent Michelin white-wall tires, drives like a dream, and 26 mpg.

DETAILS:

History

This is a Northeastern West Virginia luxury “Land Yacht” that’s been pampered by its two previous owners. It is essentially a one-owner Brougham.  The second and last owner of this Cadillac had it for about three years and drove only 1,000 miles.  Before I purchased this car, I contacted him telephonically and talked to the him extensively about its condition. He assured me that it is rust free and in mint condition.  When I saw the car at the airport, his words came true.  The car has been totally undercoated and both the body and the frame underneath have no rust. (See pictures below.)  The seller is a 73-yearold retired gentleman who collects antique cars.  He bought this Brougham from an estate sale.  He loved this car but had to sell it to leave more garage space for his other antiques.   He showed me a few of this antiques – mint 56 Chevy Bellaire, 64 Vette, 58 Plymouth and etc.  He is as meticulously about keeping his car in showroom condition as I am.  I am happy to be buying it from a collector because I know he babied his car.

As standard practice, I did an Auto Check. It showed no accidents.

Cosmetic Condition

This is a unique color Brougham, “Dark Calypso Green.”  It is a mixture of emerald green with brilliant Australian opal shine and under the sunlight, you can also see a hint of blue saphire.  It is near showroom condition. You'll be hard pressed to find a ding or a scratch.  Standing at seven feet away, you’d think it is a new car.  It has a rare hardtop. Ninety percent of the Broughams comes with a vinyl top which could deteriorate overtime when not properly cared for.  It also has the optional, upgraded gray velour cloth seats. My experience with the velour seats is that they are very durable.  This Brougham shows no wear on the seats.  The entire interior is showroom new without a tear, cut, crack or stain on the seats, carpet, door panels, dash, or the headliner.  Even the factory floor mats are like new.  When I took possession of the car, all of the mats and trunk were covered with other pieces of carpet.

As far as I can tell, the paint is original and it shines brilliantly.   All the extensive bottom chrome pieces which set this vehicle apart are perfect without a ding or a scratch.  Even the gray plastic impact trims are all like new and align perfectly with each other. There is slight bubbling of the thin spear chrome trims along the front fenders and the rear quarter panels. This is a factory defect.  There are no rock chips on the hood and the windshield is perfect.

All four Michelin white-wall tires have about 75% tread remaining.  It has a full-size original Michelin spare in the trunk that’s never been used.

There is not much more I can say about the cosmetic condition of this car - it is virtually showroom new.

MechanicalCondition

The1500 mile drive was long, but it gave me an opportunity to thoroughly test drive this car. She handled beautifully with no issues. Everything worked except the heated seats – the cruise, all windows,A/C, heat, all seat adjustments, trunk pull down motor, radio (no CD) and etc.  The famous 5.7 V8 LT1 engine was smooth, responsive, and powerful.  The car averaged an amazing 26 mpg on regular gas and I was going over 70 mph most of the time.  It did not pull, shake or rattle.  Knowing these cars like I do, at 50,366 miles, it is not even broken in.  96s are more sought after because it was the last year these legends were made.

As standard practice, I changed the oil after I arrived home.  My mechanic put it on a lift and checked for any leaks and other issues. He saw none in this car.   The air filter was new so I did not replace it.  The brakes worked beautifully; I heard no squeaks.

Conclusion:  This is a rare find - gorgeous, gorgeous, elegant 96 Fleetwood Brougham with a hardtop and velour cloth interior.  The previous owners maintained this Cadillac in exceptional cosmetic and mechanical condition. There is nothing to do except to enjoy the best riding, most luxurious, almost indestructible 350 V8 LT1, fuel efficient and reliable American sedan ever made. “No matter where you go, you have arrived.”  When new, this vehicle listed at $45,000.00. You are buying a virtually new 96 Brougham at less than 20% of its original cost.  It is a collectible classic.  Enjoy!!

This vehicle is being sold as is with no warranty implied or written.

Super Cruise will make 2018 Cadillac CT6 semi-autonomous

Mon, Apr 10 2017

General Motors has been working on its semi-autonomous driving system for years. Called Super Cruise, it had initially been slated for a fall 2016 debut. Of course, something as critical to safety as a self-driving system should ideally have the bugs worked out before putting it in the hands of customers, and the launch date had to be pushed back. It appears that Super Cruise is road-ready now, as Cadillac has announced the system will be available in the 2018 CT6 sedan when it goes on sale this fall. Super Cruise offers hands-free driving on the highway, taking control of steering and speed under the supervision of the driver. An attention detection system – a camera and infrared lights that track head position – ensures that the driver is paying attention and is available to take over driving responsibilities. If needed, Super Cruise will initiate a series of nags, including a flashing light bar on the steering wheel, to regain the driver's attention. If the driver is unresponsive, the system can bring the car to a safe stop and use OnStar to call first responders. The system employs a suite of sensors, cameras, and GPS, as well as precision lidar-scanned map database, to place the car where it needs to be on the road and in the center of its lane. It only works if the sensors detect appropriate road conditions, and is limited to the more predictable terrain of divided highways with on- and off-ramps. Yes, it's limited, but safety is paramount, and drivers who spend a lot of time on the highway will appreciate the convenience nonetheless. Related Video:

Looking back on our favorite cars of Mad Men

Tue, Apr 7 2015

The second half of the seventh and final season of Mad Men debuted this week, set to cap a run of public and critical acclaim. A decade's worth of interesting cars also made for good television, if you were paying attention. Vehicles didn't often steal the spotlight from Don, Betty, Roger, Joan and the gang, but they added meaningfully to the tone and beauty of the series. We sorted through the wheeled extras from Mad Men's archives, and choose some of our favorites to highlight. The list consists of cars that had at least a small impact on the plot of an episode, though certainly there are worthy gems hiding in just about every street and driving scene. Check out our subjective top five, and then let us know which of the Mad Men cars would be on your list. 1962 Cadillac Coupe DeVille – Season 2 Don Draper's Cadillac Coupe DeVille, all 500 feet of it, shows up in a few seasons of the show, but it's the first appearance that sets the tone. A Cadillac salesman, cut from the same cloth as Draper, asks what Don drives right now. "A Dodge," Don admits. "Those are wonderful if you want to get somewhere," allows the salesman, "this is for when you've already arrived." For a man on the move up corporate and social ladders that's a powerful message, and a pitch-perfect car. 1961 Lincoln Continental – Season 3 The most stylish Lincoln Continental ever is perfect set dressing for the mod show, of course. Though it's interesting that the car isn't cast as dapper Draper's ride, but rather his father-in-law's. Grandpa Gene does what all great grandfathers are bound to: lets his granddaughter Sally drive the big Lincoln while he works the pedals. Generational bond secured, in fine fashion. When you go back through the first three seasons of the show, you'll notice that Continentals show up more than once, too. There's nothing quite like them to evoke the best of the early '60s. 1963 John Deere 110 – Season 3 The only non-standard passenger vehicle on the list, no self-respecting gearhead/Mad Men fan should quibble with the inclusion of the John Deere 110 riding mower. For starters, the Deere is lovely to look at; a miniature version of the American Heartland icon in its green and yellow duds. The 110 appears as if milled from a solid block of steel, just the opposite of today's sleek, plasticky lawn minders (we're scouring Craigslist for one to bring home). The John Deere also has dear ramifications to the plot, too.

Cadillac cancels its car subscription program after just two years

Fri, Nov 2 2018

Cadillac is cancelling its Book by Cadillac subscription service, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal and confirmed to Autoblog by a Cadillac spokesperson. The $1,800 a month service has been in operation since early last year. The Cadillac spokesperson told us this: "Following nearly two years of service, Cadillac will temporarily pause the Book by Cadillac program effective December 1, 2018." This moves comes not too long after the decision to leave its New York City headquarters and return to Michigan. While Cadillac claims the disruption of service will be temporary, there's no defined plan to start the program back up again. The reason for the cancellation? The service ended up being more costly than Cadillac expected it to be. Owners will have 30 days from the time they're notified to turn their vehicles in. If this subscription service was your only transportation, then you better start looking for something else. The service was available in New York City, Dallas and Los Angeles. Subscribers could choose between five different Cadillacs: ATS-V, CTS-V, CT6, XT5 and Escalade. You'd be allowed up to 2,000 miles per month and 18 vehicle swaps per year through the concierge service. Cadillac would bring the car of your choice to you and take the old car away at your whimsy. The price included registration, taxes, insurance and maintenance costs. No long term commitment was necessary to sign up. This makes Cadillac one of the first manufacturers to end a nascent subscription service. If it starts back up again, expect it to look a bit different from the current program. Cadillac says it's using this experience to make strategy adjustments in the future. Whether that means a much more costly program for users, or no subscription program at all, we don't know. Plenty of other manufacturers still offer limited subscription programs in select cities. We highlighted some of the biggest ones in our vehicle subscription service guide here. It'll just be a waiting game to figure out if these modes of ownership take off going forward. For more information on Vehicle Subscription Services, check out the Complete Guide.
