1960 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special Still On Air Suspension on 2040-cars
Troutville, Virginia, United States
|
This was recently removed from 39 years of barn storage and is still on a complete factory air suspension system all the way down to the correct air cleaner. The system would partially air up through the Schrader valve on the expansion tank but currently has wood blocks holding the suspension up. The engine is totally complete but is stuck, all 4 windows work, the radio plays and the antenna will go up but does not want to go back down. It has 2 correct hubcaps, all of the trim is there except 2 eyebrows and a few hash marks. Most of the stainless is good or repairable with the worst damage being on the passenger side rocker molding which has a long deep scrape in it, rear grille is very nice. Bumpers are straight, the passenger rear end is rusted through and the drivers front upper end is also rusted through in an odd spot. Body is fairly straight with some dings and a dent in the passenger front fender near the top, visible in pictures, and there is a dent in the drivers rear quarter. Rust: drivers fender has rust in the bottom and on top next to the hood, all 4 doors are solid both rear quarter appear solid, trunk lid is solid, hood is solid but has some rust on passenger side front lip on the corner under the eyebrow, interior floors as best I can tell are good and solid, trunk floor is solid but has rust on both sides behind the wheel house in the usual spots. Both rockers have rust with the drivers side being the worst. Looks like where the car sat on the barn floor with the air suspension being all the way down it took its toll on mainly the rockers. The interior is in pretty decent shape for its age and appears to have had the dealer installed factory seat covers on it since new so more than likely the original seats are pretty nice, door panels are complete and in decent shape other than being soiled, the original carpet is still intact, dash pad is cracked and the mice have been in the headliner but it is also still intact. The original owners manual and pouch is still there as well as the jack is in the trunk. Options include air suspension, air conditioning, Autronic Eye, power vents, power door locks, tinted glass (all the glass is good). This is a rare and unusual car that needs a full restoration or would make an excellent parts car for an Eldorado. I have a lot more pictures so send me your email address if you would like to see more. The car is stored at my home so if someone wants to see it please let me know and we will make arrangements for you to see the car. Once the auction completes high bidder please send me your PayPal address so I can invoice you for the $300 deposit required within 48 hours of the close of the auction. Payment must be made in certified funds before the vehicle is picked up and the transaction musty be completed within 30 days. Car has no brakes but rolls freely so loading should not be an issue. Transportation is the responsibility of the purchaser. Over sea's buyers I will be happy to work with brokers for pick up and delivery but will not deliver to a port. Please only bid if you are seriously interested in buying the vehicle, I don't have time for petty scams. |

2019 Cadillac Escalade Sport Edition goes dark for the L.A. Auto Show
Wed, Nov 28 2018Cadillac is taking a shallow swing at the L.A. Auto Show, which might have something to do with the churn and burn happening at the brand and at parent General Motors. The Escalade Sport Edition brings its dark hue to the West Coast shindig, a touch of anti-flash that's actually a pinstripe job. For $2,700, it installs Gloss Black Ice chrome on the grille, rear fascia, window surrounds, and body side moldings, and the otherwise optional 22-inch Midnight Silver wheels. That's the whole show. Available on three of the Escalade's four trims — Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Platinum — brand president Steve Carlisle said the Sport Edition comes "in response to customer and dealer demand for a dark and aggressive look." The least expensive 2WD Luxury model starts at $84,790, including destination, with orders commencing at the beginning of next year. For all that the package isn't, it is still a better deal than buyers got ten years ago, when the 2007 Escalade offered a similarly thin Sport Edition for $4,890. There are a few small changes for the Escalade line overall for 2019. The exterior colors Midnight Sky Metallic and Dark Granite Metallic leave the palette list, making room for Manhattan Noir Metallic and Shadow Metallic to join the list. In back, there's a hands-free tailgate with a logo light, standard on all trims. The Escalade Sport Edition represents both a beginning and an end for the model. The fourth-generation Escalade went on sale in 2014 as a 2015 model, and this is the first special edition it gets. This could be the last, too, since the fourth-gen money machine we called "Old, but not antiquated" in our Driver's Notes last month is expected to give way to a fifth-generation for the 2020 model year. GM faces possible class action lawsuit over 8-speed transmission
Thu, Apr 25 2019General Motors has been hit with a class-action lawsuit from owners who allege the eight-speed automatic transmission found in several rear-wheel-drive Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC models between the 2015 and 2019 model years has a defect that causes the vehicles to hesitate and jerk when accelerating or slowing down. The lawsuit was posted to ClassAction.org and spotted by GM Authority. Problems with GM's Hydra-Matic 8L90 and 8L45 transmissions have been well-documented on Internet forums and via complaints filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, with many reporting damage to their vehicles. The lawsuit was first filed in December in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida but appears to have been transferred recently to New York. Autoblog sought comment from Theodore Leopold, the lead attorney for the plaintiffs. "These transmissions have a common defect," the complaint reads. "Drivers attempting to accelerate or decelerate their cars feel a hesitation, followed by a significant shake, shudder, jerk, clunk, or 'hard shift' when the vehicle's automatic transmission changes gears." The problem also occurs when the vehicles accelerate in a single gear, without shifting, the plaintiffs allege. "Drivers have reported that the shift is sometimes so violent, they feel as though they have been hit by another vehicle." The problem is believed to center on the transmission, torque converter or both. The complaint says it causes undue friction, causing hydraulic systems and gears to function improperly and sometimes leaves metal shavings throughout the transmission, leading to costly repairs and replacement of parts or the entire transmission. It says GM has known about the problems since shortly after it introduced the transmissions, and has issued 13 technical service bulletins, none of which have resolved the problem. GM declined to comment on the lawsuit. The plaintiffs say GM should have warned consumers about the issues and covered repairs under each vehicle's three-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. They're seeking statewide classes in at least six states: California, Florida, Illinois, New York, Oklahoma and Texas.
Cadillac plans to keep its Manhattan ZIP code, shunning Detroit
Thu, Jun 7 2018Johan de Nysschen is credited for separating Cadillac from the GM nest in Detroit, but despite his ouster earlier this year, the luxury division says it will remain headquartered in New York City's tony SoHo district. "It's 100 percent that we're staying here, that was never a question," Cadillac spokesman Andrew Lipman told the Detroit Free Press. Cadillac in April announced that it was replacing de Nysschen, after four years running the flagship brand. The new brand boss, Steve Carlisle, previously was president and managing director of GM Canada. De Nysschen led a big push to separate the luxury brand from its parent company as a separate business unit, announcing the move to New York in 2014 as a way to gain more autonomy and better tap into the global luxury zeitgeist. The move was controversial at the time in some quarters, though Lipman told the Freep that GM brass made the decision to relocate Cadillac to the Big Apple months before de Nysschen arrived at the company. Cadillac now occupies the 15th and 16th floors of a high-rise building on Hudson Street in SoHo, where it has between 140 and 150 employees. It also operates a ground-floor retail space called the Cadillac House where it displays cars, operates a coffee shop and stages events, including with fashion designers. Its vehicles are still designed and engineered back in the Detroit area, however. "The amount of time people spend at Cadillac House has been increasing, and it's become a destination," Lipman said. Cadillac used this year's New York Auto Show to reveal its new 2019 XT4 compact crossover, its second offering in the all-important luxury crossover segment after the XT5. It goes on sale this fall.
