Cadillac recalls 120k examples of ATS for fire risk
Fri, Sep 25 2015Cadillac is recalling a total of 119,339 units (96,145 in the US alone) of the 2013-2016 ATS sedan, because the coil antenna module that powers the rear defogger can overheat. The problem has been linked to four fires, but there have been no injuries, fatalities, or crashes, according to the automaker. During manufacturing, the antenna might have been produced with "critically weak terminal connectivity." If being cycled on and off often or used continuously, these faulty examples can overheat, leading to a fire in the driver's side rear pillar. According to the company, "less than 1 percent of the recalled vehicles are expected to have the condition." According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (in a PDF), the fix is a reflash for the ATS' Electronic Climate Control module that automatically turns on the rear defogger when the engine starts. In addition, 2013 models keep the system on continuously at low temperatures at highway speeds and this is also being disabled in the update. The changes are meant to cycle the coil less often, but owners can still turn it on manually. Related Video: GM Statement: General Motors is recalling approximately 96,145 2013-16 model year ATS sedans in the U.S. Some of these vehicles may have been manufactured with critically weak terminal connectivity in the coil antenna module, which powers the rear defogger system. If the module has the condition and is subjected to excessive cycling or continuous operation, it may overheat and a fire may develop inside the rear pillar on the driver's side of the vehicle. Less than 1 percent of the recalled vehicles are expected to have the condition. GM is aware of four fires but no injuries, fatalities or crashes. Including Canada, Mexico and exports, the total population of the recall is approximately 119,339. In the affected vehicles, the coil antenna module that powers the rear defogger system may generate excessive heat due to excessive cycling or continuous operation.
Cadillac CT6 Plug-in Hybrid is dead for 2019
Thu, Nov 15 2018Plug-in hybrids seem to have it hard at Cadillac. First there was the ELR flop, and now Cadillac is killing off the CT6 Plug-in Hybrid. The news of the hybrid's demise was first broken by GM Authority, and we received a statement from Cadillac confirming that it would be discontinued. With it disappearing for the 2019 model year, the CT6 Plug-in was only around for two model years, the same as the ELR. The Cadillac representative we contacted didn't say exactly why the CT6 Plug-in is being discontinued. All that was mentioned was that focus for the new model year would be on the refresh and the CT6-V. We would guess the hybrid is gone due to slow sales, but General Motors doesn't break out individual trims and powertrains in its quarterly delivery reports, so we can't say for sure. We're a bit disappointed that the CT6 hybrid is going away. We were pleased with its fuel economy and refinement when we had an opportunity to drive one, and its only real sacrifice was a smaller trunk. On the plus side, Cadillac's statement to us said that there are definitely additional electric vehicles coming to the brand, noting that some of the 20 promised electric vehicles from GM by 2023 will be Cadillacs. This 1969 Ford F-100 has a Cadillac CTS-V engine lurking underhood
Fri, Jan 30 2015Something always feels just a little taboo when someone builds a custom and then slots in a powertrain from a rival automaker. That's exactly the case with this modded 1969 Ford F-100 boasting a highly tuned LSA supercharged V8 like from the second-gen Cadillac CTS-V. However, with a claimed 800 horsepower on tap thanks in part to running an estimated 20 pounds of boost, it's easy to get over any bad feelings. Built by Tommy Pike Customs in South Carolina, the truck tries to keep the exterior looking somewhat stock. Although, the jade green and satin gold paint, Quaker State logo, lowered suspension and black wheels immediately suggest something is up. Once the F-100 starts up with its menacing growl, absolutely any doubts of this beast being unaltered are immediately gone. Not so obvious are some tweaks to actually help put all that power down, including disc brakes and independent suspension setups at the front and rear. The video gives some glimpses at a few of Pike's other creations, but the real star here is definitely his mean, green Ford.
