1985 CADILLAC ELDORADO

TOURING COUPE CONVERTIBLE

By Hess & Eisenhardt

THIS CAR IS THE RAREST 79-85 ELDORADO CONVERTIBLE ON THE PLANET

585 TOURING COUPES WERE BUILT IN 1985, BUT ONLY 5 KNOWN CONVERTIBLES WERE BUILT

This car is restored to factory built specs, low mileage, runs and looks like new.

True Mileage 67,300 Miles Since New

This is not one of the 2300 "Factory" built Biarritz Convertibles

This is an extremely unusual car, please read...

In the 1980's, Cadillac realized that they were losing sales to many of the European car manufacturers and came up with a special Eldorado model that was called the Eldorado Touring Coupe.  There were MANY differences between the standard Eldorado, the Eldorado Biarritz, and the Eldorado Touring Coupe.

The engine and drive train were the same, but there were differences in the suspension, specifically different springs and shocks, as well as larger anti-roll bars front and rear.  As far as appearance, The Touring Coupe had color keyed headlight and tail light trim, color keyed wheel opening moldings, a sporty ribbed rocker and lower fender trim, and a special medallion on the hood instead of the normal stand-up wreath and crest.

The biggest difference was in the interior.  All Touring Coupes featured a luxurious roll and pleated bucket seat interior with large floor console.  This particular car was purchased new by a Cadillac salesman in New Jersey and sent to famous coachbuilder Hess & Eisenhardt in Cincinnati, OH for conversion.  I have the window sticker for the car as well as documentation from Hess & Eisenhardt.  Please examine the photos to see the superb condition of this car.

Lets start off with some basic photos of the car:

This was a no-rust, no-hit car, but when Hess & Eisenhardt does their convertible conversions, they paint the car from the doors back.  In the 1980's GM was still using acrylic lacquer paint on these cars and due to the excessive paint build up, the paint on the trunk and quarter panels was cracking.  The car had all trim removed, and was taken down to bare metal and repainted in the original Bordeaux Red Metallic in a high quality base-coat clear-coat finish at a cost of $7000.00.  A brand new top was fitted, and since I wanted everything painted properly, the windshield was removed and replaced with a new one.

Some more photos...

The photos were taken on a mainly overcast day.  In direct sunlight, the Bordeaux Red really "pops".

Wheels are correct and original.  Tires are new.

Some interior shots... Taken at different times of the day, lighting differences make the tan interior look different in different lighting.  It is really excellent.

No real wear on the interior.  Door panels arm rest and switch areas have no cracks or splits.

Edges of seats are not warn, plastic seat trim is mint.

Original boot still fits perfectly, not shrunken or torn.

Tilt/Tele Steering wheel and dash pad are beautiful, all dash items function 100% radio plays well, cruise works,

ICE COLD Air Conditioning with full R-12 charge

Standard Eldorado Coupes had the anodized aluminum trim on the top of each door, and the ones on this car are fine.  The trim that went from the door, across the bottom of the fixed quarter window and turned up to meet the roof is diecast and they usually are pitted even on low mileage cars.  Although it pained me to do it, I took an NOS pair and cut them down just like Hess & Eisenhardt did and installed them on the car after the car was painted. The rubber parts are all new too. All of the windows line up correctly and they were all lubed and adjusted when the car was apart for paint.  See below:

Now for the mechanical parts of the car...

This is a NO Rust Garage Kept Car.

Floorpans are excellent, suspension, brakes, exhaust excellent, new Goodrich Radial T/A's with 50 miles on them.

I have owned about 6 of the 84-85 Biarritz convertibles throughout the years, and also own a 1980 Hess & Eisenhardt Convertible and this car is the nicest riding 85 Eldorado I have ever owned.  The touring suspension really makes a difference.  This is a rattle-free convertible and is the only Touring Coupe Convertible known.  The condition is outstanding, dazzling paint and chrome, beautiful interior, everything on the car is working 100% including the radio, cruise control, climate control, level ride, digital dash, and power top.

Your personal inspection or inspection representative is welcomed.  You are welcome to test drive the car.  I am located in Huntingdon Valley, PA, just outside of Phila, PA.

Convenient to the Phila Airport, PA Turnpike, or I-95.  Inexpensive delivery available.

Please contact me with any and all questions, and thank you for looking!

Cadillac explains origins of Lyriq EV name

Mon, Jul 13 2020

We feel for Cadillac, a brand we're inclined to dub the Alex Rodriguez of the automotive world — so much obvious talent, its gifts warped by repeated questionable moves and an inability to conclusively close the deal on The Big Stage. And as with Rodriguez, the expectations are so high at the same time the disappointment is so entrenched that Cadillac gets no benefits of any doubts, the commentariat ruthless with criticism for anything less than an out-of-the-park home run. This latest news, like the Newton-meter torque-based naming scheme initiated earlier this year, likely won't help. GM Authority asked Cadillac about the origin of the Lyriq name for the coming battery-electric crossover. Global head of brand strategy Phil Dauchy explained three threads that went into the new moniker. In no particular order, one thread is that "Cadillac," according to Dauchy, gets more mentions in song lyrics than any other brand, including non-automotive brands. The Music Lyrics Database, while not exhaustive, supports the case: Cadillac has 31 pages of lyric mentions among bands from Rancid to Weird Al Yankovic, beating every other brand we could think of. So ... lyrics into Lyriq. The second thread is rolled up with Cadillac's move to proper names instead of alphanumerics for the sedan and crossover lines, all of those names to end in "iq," as well as the push into electric vehicles. Dauchy told GMA the nomenclature overhaul and the two-letter suffix "[signal] that Cadillac is bringing a different type of vehicle to market, one that works in concert with man, nature, and machine." He's bullish on swaying the public with the product, adding, "When you see [the Cadillac Celestiq], its size, presence and scale all connote the emotion associated with the name." The final thread that went into the Lyriq name the alliteration of brand and model names. As GMA phrased it, perhaps unsettlingly, "With Cadillac and the model name both ending in an 'ick' sound, these names roll off the tongue quite well." This brings up a question raised in a number of comments about the Lyriq, which asks whether the last syllable is pronounced "ick" or "eek." Until now, I've pronounced the coming crossover with an "eek" at the end. "Lyr-eek" strikes me as more luxurious, and "Celest-eek" sounds better to me than "Celest-ick," that latter model being the flagship EV that follows the Lyriq. Of course, it also makes me wonder if I've been pronouncing "Cadillac" correctly.

2017 GMC Canyon steals Cadillac's V6 for a little more power

Mon, Aug 29 2016

GMC is fortifying the Canyon with a new powertrain and two new trim levels for 2017. GMC will give the Canyon the 3.6-liter V6 found in the Cadillac ATS, CTS, CT6, and XT5 crossover. The engine will be matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which also can be found on Cadillacs, the new 2017 Colorado, and other General Motors vehicles. The new engine comes with variable valve timing, improved direct injection, and Active Fuel Management, which is a form of cylinder deactivation that shuts off two cylinders to increase fuel efficiency and performance. Power is up from 305 to 308 horsepower, while torque increases from 269 to 275 pound-feet of torque compared to the old 3.6-liter V6. With the new transmission, the Canyon benefits from a higher first gear ratio, which should help drivers get off the line more easily when towing large cargo, and lower overdrive ratios for improved fuel efficiency. The 2016 model had a six-speed automatic. The Colorado also gets the eight-speed transmission for '17. GMC previously announced the All Terrain X and Denali models. The All Terrain X trim is offered on the SLE model and comes with the new 3.6-liter V6 engine or the 2.8-liter Duramax turbo-diesel. The All Terrain X gets Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac P225/65R17 all-terrain tires, a body-color grille surround and matching rear step bumper, bespoke 17-inch aluminum wheels, and a spray-on bedliner. The truck also is fortified with Hill Descent Control and an off-road suspension. The Denali carries the flag as the most luxurious Canyon model and gets a Bose seven-speaker audio system, more chrome, and interior upgrades. In addition to the new models and the powertrain, the 2017 Canyon will be offered with new colors – Dark Slate Metallic, Mineral Metallic, and Red Quartz Metallic – a new IntelliLink radio with a seven-inch touchscreen, a heated steering wheel as an optional extra, and Standard Teen Driver Mode. The 2017 Canyon, with all of its changes, will be available in the fourth quarter of the year. GM threatens predatory dealers with order cancellations, non-transferrable warranties

Fri, Jul 29 2022

General Motors will launch a second salvo against misbehaving dealerships next week with a new set of policies aimed at curbing predatory markup strategies. With the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06, GMC Hummer EV SUV and Cadillac Escalade-V about to head into production, GM is putting its foot down yet again. Dealers that attempt to circumvent GM's markup restrictions by dealing directly with brokers or other resellers could find themselves in a particularly nasty spot, as the company is threatening to withhold future allocations and end the transferability of warranties when dealers facilitate the reselling of vehicles within 12 months.  While this may help curb some dealership chicanery, it's possible the real loser in such a deal could end up being the customer who unwittingly ends up with an un-warrantied vehicle. We suspect GM has accounted for that, but we'll have to wait until next week to find out exactly how these new policies will be enforced.
