1985 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible
Family owned
This unique 1985 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible was purchased new by my father from Coral Cadillac in Pompano Bch, Florida. It was his Florida car from 1985 until he passed away in 1996. I took the car, at that time with less than 45k miles, and drove it to my home in N Carolina, where it was driven for special occasions and sunny days, until I moved to Montana, when I put it in storage in our family's garage, in Ohio, for 5 years. During that time, it was started weekly but driven sparingly until I drove it across country from Ohio to MT in the summer of 2006. It has always been garaged since new...in Florida an air conditioned garage, in NC, and OH, and now in Montana a heated garage. I am the second registered owner of this 1 family owned vehicle.
I have just sold my home (with the heated garage) and moved into a smaller home with a single garage. I need the space, so I am offering to sell my Dad's car to someone who will enjoy it, and appreciate the uniqueness of the vehicle.
This is not a show car, but a very clean driver that is ALL original. There are a few things that need to be addressed: being a FL car, the bottoms of the doors are showing some rust that should be fixed; the driver's seat has minimal wear on the edges from 28 yrs of use (all original); the top, also original, is showing it's age with 2 tears at the corners from having the top down, and around the glass rear window; the exhaust resonator has a small hole and should be replaced; there is a small leak in the heater core that causes a fine mist to come from the AC when used. Other than that, Cadillac's HT4100 engine runs well. It has not had the normal main bearing problems most other 4100's had. The right rear quarter window motor operates, but the flexible cable has broken so the window has to be pushed down manually. It will raise with the motor. I have 2 replacement flexible gear cables. I also have a new-old stock OEM replacement convertible top, but without pads, cables, or rear window. The tires were replaced in the summer of 2006 before driving across country, and have less than 10,000 miles on them.
The mileage is accurate and original at 69518. Everything works including the cruise, power antennae, power seats, power top, dual power mirrors, automatic headlight sentinel, radio (except the cassette), the AC, the on-board fuel economy computer, digital speedo, fuel guage, and miles to empty, power closing trunk, and even the automatic leveling system. I replaced the original carpeted floor mats with reproduction, full width, mats in the late 90's, and still have the original mats in the trunk, along with the original trunk mat, and convertible top boot.
The car is located in the northwestern part of Montana...Whitefish, MT, near Glacier National Park...easily accessed by air via Delta, United, or Alaska airlines. It is the buyer's responsibility to arrange pickup or shipping. I do have access to car haulers who will arrange shipping to any part of the USA for a competitive cost. It is also advertised locally, and I have the right to end the auction early of sold locally.
I am offering this rare Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible at a very reasonable beginning price and reserve. Please do not ask the reserve. If you want to purchased the car, please bid accordingly.

Cadillac to expand V-Series but discontinue CTS-V and ATS-V
Wed, Sep 19 2018Cadillac said Tuesday it will expand its V-Series performance sub-brand with the arrival of the CT6-V sedan in 2019 ( formerly known as the CT6 V-Sport), with plans to add high-performance variants across its portfolio. The flipside to that expansion is the sunsetting of its two existing V-Series performance cars, the ATS-V (both coupe and convertible) and CTS-V sedan. Two new unspecified sedans will slot below the CT6 in Cadillac's lineup, a spokesman said. The CT6-V will arrive next spring, roughly a year after it bowed at the New York auto show. It will feature Cadillac's new "Blackwing" V8, a twin-turbo engine that displaces 4.2 liters and produces an estimated 550 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, sending it through GM's new 10-speed automatic transmission to drive all four wheels. A less-aggressive version of the engine will also appear in the CT6 Platinum model, offering 500 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. "Beginning with the debut of the CTS-V Sedan in 2004, the V-Series sub-brand sparked new life into Cadillac," Mark Reuss, executive vice president and president of GM Global Automotive Group and Cadillac, said in a statement. "As a result of the overwhelming response the CT6 V-Sport received when revealed in early 2018, we've decided to formally make it a V-Series, signaling the expansion of V-Series." View 61 Photos A Cadillac spokesman tells Autoblog the 2019 model year will be the last for the ATS-V and CTS-V. The ATS-V is powered by a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 that's good for 464 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 262 hp and 173 lb-ft from the base, four-cylinder ATS, which is also set to go to pasture at the end of the 2018 model year. The CTS-V, meanwhile, boasts a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 under its carbon-fiber hood that puts out 640 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque, good for a 3.7-second 0-60 mph time and a top speed of 200 mph. In a Quick Spin review last year, Autoblog Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore called the car "old-school muscle in an Esquire-approved suit. It's 'roids and cufflinks." As for what's next for an expanded V-Series, Cadillac has the new XT4 crossover, and already other companies are banking on performance versions of crossovers. Cadillac's also developing a less expensive luxury sports sedan called the CT5. It's also said to be planning a production version of the Escala concept starting in late 2021, so those could be possibilities.
GM says safety is a reason it's dropping Apple CarPlay, Android Auto
Tue, Dec 12 2023Update: GM sent us a statement as a follow-up to its original comments seen in this post: "We wanted to reach out to clarify that comments about GM's position on phone projection were misrepresented in previous articles and to reinforce our valued partnerships with Apple and Google and each company’s commitment to driver safety. GM's embedded infotainment strategy is driven by the benefits of having a system that allows for greater integration with the larger GM ecosystem and vehicles." The original story can be read in its entirety below.  General Motors announced its intention to remove Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality from its upcoming EVs earlier this year, and internet comments sections haven't been kind since. As the first of many EVs to follow – the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV – hits the market, GM is expanding on its initial explanations for dropping the tech. Motor Trend spoke with Tim Babbit, GMÂ’s head of product for infotainment, to learn more. Attributed to Babbit, from the story: “They have stability issues that manifest themselves as bad connections, poor rendering, slow responses, and dropped connections. And when CarPlay and Android Auto have issues, drivers pick up their phones again, taking their eyes off the road and totally defeating the purpose of these phone-mirroring programs. Solving those issues can sometimes be beyond the control of the automaker.” Babbit suggests that a world without Apple CarPlay or Android Auto will be a safer one, as folks wonÂ’t be looking to control their infotainment systems via their phones. However, Babbit also tells MT that this theory hasnÂ’t been tested in either the lab or the real world yet. Instead of using a navigation or music-playing app powered through your phone, upcoming GM EVs will use a Google-based infotainment system called “Ultifi” that runs a ton of integrated Google apps. Google Maps will be the native navigation app in the system; youÂ’ll be able to log in to Spotify or other apps to load your music up, and so on. The idea here is that youÂ’ll have all the same apps that were on your phone available but integrated within the infotainment system instead, and you'll be able to use voice controls to control every last bit of it with no need to reach for a phone. That sounds amenable in theory, but how consumers react to the removal of a feature that they know and love now is a risky gamble.
Hertz and GM team up to put 175,000 rental EVs on the road
Tue, Sep 20 2022Hertz and General Motors have announced a significant partnership that will send up to 175,000 electric vehicles into rental fleets across the country. The deal will unfold over the next five years and include vehicles from all GM brands. Â The partnership will run through 2027. Hertz estimates that the electric fleet can save as many as 8 billion gasoline-powered miles, removing 1.8 million metric tons of carbon dioxide-equivalent emissions from the air. Hertz says it will invest in becoming the largest renter of EVs in North America and notes that it already has tens of thousands available at 500 locations in 38 states. By the end of 2024, it plans to electrify a quarter of its fleet. Electric rental cars are a great way for travelers wanting to avoid gas, and they make excellent urban commuter cars. Hertz will also likely save a few dollars by avoiding oil changes and other routine maintenance that gas engines need. However, a hidden societal benefit of this deal may come when Hertz’s EV rental customers begin shopping for new cars. Many people are skeptical of EVs for various reasons, including range, charging, ease of operation, and cost. Giving people a low-risk introduction to EVs and the ability to test-drive one without a pressuring salesperson could drive more people to electrics. At the same time, there's also the risk that renters wanting to take their Hertz-GM EV on a road trip into sparsely populated areas may return with charging and range-related horror stories. Hertz currently doesnÂ’t ask what youÂ’re planning to do with your rental, but it does offer a chat service for questions, and range information is presented clearly on each vehicle.
