1984 Cadillac Eldorado Coupe

Up for Auction: SUPER LOW FAIR RESERVE !!!

A very nice 1984 Caddy Eldorado 2 dr coupe.
This car was originally sold here in Tucson and basically never
left unless it was for a road trip or 2. What you wont find on
the car is any rust on the car. Its your typical rust free Az car
with a solid body. The car was always parked in a garage or a
carport so the Az sun didnt get to it as badly as some cars.
Best we can tell, its still the original white paint which is showing
its age and its getting faded in areas. I think most of it could be
clay barred and brought back to look pretty nice if you wanted
to and buff it out with a good wax job and it could look even better.
We may try to do that this week with a local detailer we use.

Factory V8 car loaded like you would expect from a Caddy
Some back story about the car, the car was owned by a friend of
mines dad, he bought it new in 84 from the original owner and
drove it up till about 03, when it got parked for something smaller.
Around that time w/ aprox 127k on the car he basically parked
the car when he bought a new car, so this car as essentially sat
under cover for the last 11 yrs with an empty gas tank. To get it
back on the road, we changed some of the fluids, dropped the
tank and put a new fuel pump and screen in (just to be safe), put
in some fresh gas and with a few cranks of the key, it fired right
up. It runs and drives like an older Caddy should. The tires look
good but I know are pretty old.

DRIVETRAIN:  the original throttle body injected V8
motor runs and sounds good.
It idles nice and runs like it should. We where going to
do more of a tune up on it, but its been running so well
Im leaving it alone. Nice and unmolested under the hood
its almost like a time capsule there. AC clicks on using the
climate control on the dash, but doesnt get that cool.
So at the very least it will need a charge.
The hood struts are worn out and dont hold up the hood anymore
by themselves. Again, an easy fix they are available all over
pretty cheap.

INTERIOR: All original blue velour interior shows minor wear
and actually looks pretty awesome for its age. Think the only
seat that ever got used was the driver seat. All the electronics
seem to work and the gadgets on this car for 1981 are way ahead
of its time. Impressive for its age. The pics always make the car
look better in pics, but this car the is really clean inside too.
The steering column has the typical loose feel to it, typical of
most GMs from this ERA, generally its an easy fix, but you have
to remove the SW and get to the loose nuts down in the column
to tighten it up. 9x out of 10 thats usually the all it is in these
80s GM columns.

EXTERIOR: What looks to be like the original white paint, the body
is very straight and paint could be buffed out some to look nicer
too if you wanted to restore the car. Restoring this car wouldnt take
a whole lot or just drive it the way it is and enjoy it.
As is this car would be a nice daily driver (tires would be the
first thing I would change on it). The stainless and chrome on this
car are in amazing shape for their age too. There is alot on
the car from front to back from the factory.

SUSPENSION: all factory the best I can tell and Im sure some bushings
are old and shocks, things where replaced or fixed as needed.
Feels normal and solid like a Cadillac riding on a cloud :)
Smooth with no weird noises, and brakes probably need to be
bled (from sitting) the car stops, but Ill bleed them this week.

SOME STUFF I KNOW IT NEEDS ARE: power antenna broken, some plastic
filler parts between the rear bumper and body brittle and broken
in a few areas, dr door simply wont open from the inside or outside.
Flip up part of the trunk lock cover broken, chrome trim around dr side
headlight bezel cracked & dr interior door panel showing some wear,
and the trim on the steering wheel is peeling off.  Most of this stuff is
minor and easy fixes, but you may miss them in the pics so I wanted to
mention them

Check out ALL the pics below ----->

it may take a full minute for them all to load if you have a
slow connection, so be patient AND looks for the extra schroll
bar on the right side.
Az gets maybe 12" a yr of rain and Az very dry climate.
more info AFTER the pics etc. There are 100 large pics.

Junkyard Gem: 1969 Cadillac Coupe DeVille

Wed, Jul 31 2019

The Cadillac Division was riding high in 1969, with sales numbers far surpassing those of Lincoln and Imperial. A few more years remained before fuel prices would go crazy, and prosperous Americans knew that a sleek DeVille or Eldorado gave them bragging rights at the country club. Here's a thoroughly used-up '69 Coupe DeVille, finally at the end of its journey and residing in a self-service wrecking yard in Denver, Colo. This inspection certificate shows that the car lived in Louisiana a decade ago. Since this is the sort of pervasive rust that occurs in places much wetter than arid High Plains Colorado, we can assume that this DeVille spent many years in the land of gumbo and alligators. The decklid sports Fleetwood badging and a Rickenbaugh Cadillac emblem, but Cadillac didn't make two-door Fleetwoods in 1969. Perhaps a Colorado-sold Fleetwood donated its decklid to replace a rust-ravaged lid on this car. Actually, there's a good chance it was purchased at this very yard. The once-opulent interior has suffered greatly over the decades, with the reek of mildewed carpeting and irradiated leather giving it That Hooptie Car Smell. Try to picture what this scene looked like in happier days, a half-century ago. The 1969 Cadillac V8 engine displaced a mighty 472 cubic inches (that's 7.8 liters to those of you living under the cruel knout of the metric system) and delivered a gross 375 horsepower and 525 lb-ft of torque. Scaling in at 4,595 pounds (about a half-ton less than a new Escalade), the DeVille needed that power to keep up with those cheap-but-V8-equipped Chevy Chevelles. For 1970, Cadillac would stroke this engine to a staggering 500 cubic inches for Eldorado buyers. This engine family lasted through 1984, after which it was replaced by the much-loathed High Technology V8. The build quality and snob appeal of the 1969 Cadillacs kept them on the road for decades after most of their peers got crushed, but this one was just too far gone to be worth restoring. Combine a self-driving car with V2V, and here's what happens

Sat, Dec 12 2015

Transportation engineers have started laying the groundwork for a traffic world in which cars communicate with other cars and infrastructure like bridges and traffic lights. How about an environment in which cars talk to pretty much everything and everyone? In a preview of its offerings at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show, Delphi Automotive will deploy just such a concept. Engineers have designed a system that communicates with traffic signals, street signs, pedestrians, cyclists, even to fry pits and parking garages along a driver's route. To date, engineers and researchers across the auto industry have focused on the technical and safety-oriented foundation of future vehicle-to-vehicle communications, which could help cars share information about everything from traffic tie-ups to upcoming road hazards. Beyond those building blocks, many have projected that V2V could also include more consumer-focused features. Delphi's system, dubbed V2Everything, might be the first that combines those sorts of features in a tangible package. At CES in Las Vegas, scheduled to begin the first week of January, company officials say they'll demonstrate in real-world conditions how V2V technology can be used in an autonomous vehicle to provide a range of critical safety information and leisure and convenience options for riders. The first V2V technology installed on a production car is slated to appear on the 2017 Cadillac CTS. "We imagine a world with zero traffic accidents," said Jeff Owens, Delphi's chief technology officer. "To get there, we will need a convergence of active safety, sensor fusion, connectivity platforms and advanced software." Such software might allow a vehicle to start searching for and reserving parking spots at a programmed destination long before arriving. It could allow riders to place their McDonald's drive-through order from the road and have the food ready for pickup along the route. For the drive itself, the Delphi-equipped car can stay updated on the status of traffic lights around Las Vegas, and can anticipate yellow and red lights. Using smart-phone technology, the car can detect pedestrians and cyclists that may otherwise be hard to see. It can send messages to friends or family to notify them of a driver's location. Some of those features have been available on third-party apps or individually developed by automakers. But this system marries them together in a single system that is tailored for use in self-driving cars.

Online Find Of The Day: 2008 Cadillac XLR picks up where Excalibur left off

Thu, 23 May 2013

We try very, very hard to keep snark away from creations like the one you see here. After all, someone poured plenty of enthusiasm, time and money into turning a 2008 Cadillac XLR into a modern interpretation of the new-old cars typically done by cottage builders like Excalibur and Clénet. Even so, it's hard not to wince when you set an eye on this machine. With its wheelbase stretched to accommodate the extra bodywork, goofy sidewalls and upkicked nose (examine it in profile, it looks slightly bent in the middle), this "neoclassic" takes whatever was loveable about the Cadillac underneath and buries it in a tacky grave.
Miraculously, the engine bay has been left unmolested, which means the retractable hardtop convertible still features a 4.6-liter Northstar V8 engine good for 320 horsepower. If only that were enough to outrun its shame. If, for some reason, you feel like taking this thing home, Harry Kaufmann Motorcars of Milwaukee says it can be yours for a paltry $74,998. We wish were joking. Check it out here.
