1963 Cadillac DeVille Convertible. Repainted white with a blue pearl metal flake with a fresh black leather interior. Equipped with the original 390 V8 and Automatic transmission. Starts and runs great. Goes down the road with ease, cruise at 80 mph floating down the road. The black top is power and functions as it should. Actual miles are not known, but the odometer shows 50992. The car was restored some time ago, buy the previous owner. There are some flaws in the paint, such as chips and runs, but overall has a nice shine. The body work that was done before painting was not to a professional standard, but is overall good driver quality. It appears as though the car had rust on the bottom of the car and filler was used in combination with metal to cover. It is hard to see it with the bottom painted black the way that it is. The interior of the car was redone, with new seat covers and carpet. It looks fresh, seats are comfortable and the power works most of the time. All of the power windows work, but passenger front glass is cracked. The passenger front window switch does not work. The factory am radio does work. Wipers function as they should, as well as the lights turn signals and brake lights. Gas gauge is stuck on empty. The heater does not work as the heater core is bypassed. Not sure if it would work if it were hooked up. The fender mounted indicators for turn signals are missing, so they do not work. The front bumper was replaced somewhere along the line, and a 64 lower was installed in place of the 63 lower. Some chrome is missing in front, but hard to notice if you don't know it is not there. The floors are rusty and have been patched with what the previous owner had, including great stuff. All in all the car is a 20 footer, looks great going down the road, gets compliments every where we take it. Real nice driver, but not a show car. There is a clear Illinois title. The car is still considered used, with that being said, there is no warranties or guarantee included and is sold as is. International buyers are welcomed. Shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer, but I can assist in loading and will work with your shipper. Inspections are available and welcomed before bidding. $500 deposit due within 48 hours of auction close. Full payment is due within 7 days. If you have any questions please ask, please no reserve questions, bid what you are comfortable spending. I will try my best to answer quickly. Buyer is responsible for sales tax. Interesting hot rod trades will be considered.

Super Cruise’s failsafes

Fri, Oct 6 2017

Even though Super Cruise is not a fully autonomous system, it incorporates redundancies like those used in aircraft to ensure failsafe operation. Before taking off on a 700-mile, 11-hour test drive of the system — and putting my life in its hands without my hands on the wheel — I sat down with Daryl Wilson, lead development engineer for Super Cruise, to get a deep dive into the system and its critical safety backups. Autoblog: First, what makes Super Cruise different from similar systems? Wilson: The key differentiator for Super Cruise is hand-free driving. It's an industry first in that respect. Our competitors require the driver at minimum to place their hands on the wheel with some frequency to ensure that the car knows that the driver is there. We don't. Two key technologies allow us to do this. One is our Driver Attention System, which is our methodology for making sure the driver is engaged with the vehicle and engaged with the road. This is a driver assist system, not a fully autonomous system. So it requires driver engagement. We use an infrared camera that constantly monitors the driver's face to determine the direction they're looking. We're looking for the driver to be what we call on-road — not on the center stack, not to left or right or down. That's all done by the tracking of the face. We also track that the eyes are open. It's infrared because at night you need to illuminate the face and you can't be shining a light into the driver's face. Then we have our lidar mapping that provides a foundation for control and redundancy to ensure safe performance. Autoblog: How does the mapping act as a redundant feature? Wilson: This system is only for use on divided, controlled access highways. What I mean by a divided highway is something more than a painted line between you and oncoming traffic. Whether that's a grassy area in between the lanes or a concrete barrier, anything that separates you from oncoming traffic. That's the divided highway part. The controlled access part is entrance ramps and exit ramps. Not with roads that cross at grade, with traffic crossing at the same level. To do that we geofenced these roads to ensure that operation is only allowed in these conditions. We don't just recommend you use it there; we ensure that you only use it there.

Liberace's gilded Cadillac could be yours

Tue, 27 Aug 2013

With their chrome grilles and oversized wheels, it's hard not to notice a Cadillac these days. But this one is even more blingtastic on account of the 23.75-karat gold-leaf bodywork.
The 1931 Cadillac Golfer's Drop Head Coupé is said to have belonged to the inimitable performer Liberace, who didn't just have it covered in gold - he also had the exterior door handles plated in silver and the inside handles in 24-karat gold as well. It's also got a white leather interior and headlights that - well ahead of their time (if you'll pardon us, Mr. Tucker) - pivot with the steering wheel. All that bling is powered by a 5.7-liter V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission that pales in comparison to the seven, eight and even nine-speed gearboxes appearing on luxury sedans today.
The project was undertaken over the course of three years in the 1970s by one Jack Smith from Kansas. Smith (if that was his real name) sold it at auction in 1975, and it was most recently displayed for 12 years at a museum in Germany which claimed it was Liberace's own. The car is now going up for sale by Barons' at the Sandown Park horse racing track in Surrey, England, on September 17, when bidding starts at 85,000 pounds - equivalent to over $130,000 at today's rates.

2017 Cadillac XT5 shows off its new metal in LA

Thu, Nov 19 2015

Cadillac is in the midst of a comprehensive production overhaul, and few of its new arrivals will be as pivotal as the new XT5. Replacing the old SRX, the XT5 was revealed in the metal here on the floor of the 2015 LA Auto Show. Joining the new CT6 under Caddy's new naming scheme, the XT5 represents GM's assault on German competition like the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Mercedes GLC, Japanese rivals like the Lexus RX, Infiniti QX50, and Acura RDX, and its own cross-town nemesis, the Lincoln MKX. And to better fend off their advances, the new XT5 promises marked improvements over its predecessor in every way. The model you see here is, to our eyes, handsomer than the model it replaces, adopting the Art & Science brand's latest design cues. It offers a fresh cabin space loaded with the latest equipment. And it weighs a solid 278 pounds less than the outgoing SRX. Power still comes from a 3.6-liter V6, paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission with available all-wheel drive. 310 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque keep it going, which ought to help it keep pace with the competition. We're looking forward to seeing how it drives in due course, but in the meantime, you're invited to view our live photos from the floor of the Los Angeles Convention Center in the gallery above.
