Canada opens probe into 250,000 GM pickups, SUVs over brake performance
Sun, Jun 23 2019Transport Canada, the auto safety regulator, has opened a probe into braking issues in nearly 250,000 General Motors full-size pickups and SUVs after U.S. officials launched a similar probe last year, the agency said on its website. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in November into 2.73 million U.S. 2014-2016 model year SUVs and pickups after receiving 487 reports of hard brake pedal effort accompanied by extended stopping distance that were attributed to deterioration of the engine-driven brake assist vacuum pump. Transport Canada's probe covers 249,700 2015 through 2017 model year vehicles including the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon as well as 2014-2017 Chevrolet Silverado LD and GMC Sierra LD vehicles. The U.S. agency said it had reports of nine incidents of vehicles incurring damage as a result of colliding with another vehicle or fixed object at low speeds and reports of two injuries. NHTSA said if the pump fails to operate, the amount of brake power assist can be significantly reduced, extending vehicle stopping distance. 2017 Cadillac XT5 shows off its new metal in LA
Thu, Nov 19 2015Cadillac is in the midst of a comprehensive production overhaul, and few of its new arrivals will be as pivotal as the new XT5. Replacing the old SRX, the XT5 was revealed in the metal here on the floor of the 2015 LA Auto Show. Joining the new CT6 under Caddy's new naming scheme, the XT5 represents GM's assault on German competition like the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Mercedes GLC, Japanese rivals like the Lexus RX, Infiniti QX50, and Acura RDX, and its own cross-town nemesis, the Lincoln MKX. And to better fend off their advances, the new XT5 promises marked improvements over its predecessor in every way. The model you see here is, to our eyes, handsomer than the model it replaces, adopting the Art & Science brand's latest design cues. It offers a fresh cabin space loaded with the latest equipment. And it weighs a solid 278 pounds less than the outgoing SRX. Power still comes from a 3.6-liter V6, paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission with available all-wheel drive. 310 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque keep it going, which ought to help it keep pace with the competition. Cadillac back on track with 600-hp ATS-V.R racer in FIA GT3 spec [w/video]
Fri, 14 Nov 2014There was already a rumor brewing that Cadillac might eschew the CTS as its racecar next season in favor of the ATS Coupe. It turns out that is absolutely the case, and now we know just what this 600-horsepower, future racer looks like. The coupe might not be limited to competing in just the US, though, because it's built to FIA GT3-specifications, meaning that this Caddy is also eligible to race in over 30 series worldwide against the likes of Bentley, McLaren, Audi and other premium brands.
The heart of this massively winged Cadillac is an engine dubbed the LF4.R. It's based around the unit in the production ATS-V and CTS Vsport but with larger turbos, bigger intercoolers, side exhausts and other tricks. Cadillac claims it makes a monstrous 600 hp and 520 pound-feet of torque in unrestricted form.
As the photo above shows, the ATS-V.R also wears an aggressive aero kit with a carbon fiber front splitter, and a wing at the back that could probably double as a picnic table in a pinch. The dry weight of the whole package is quoted at about 2,900 pounds, which is around 700 pounds less than the street version.
