All Original 1955 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special

This is an all original 1955 Cadillac Fleetwood with 72,000 miles. It's not a show car by any means, but is a well maintained driver. I'll do my best to describe its condition below, but feel free to call if you have any additional questions or photo/video requests: (512) 653-0773

Mechanical

Mechanically, the car is well maintained and in good shape.  It runs, drives, and stops well with no smoke or abnormal noises from drivetrain and only drips maybe a couple drops of engine oil when parked (see video at the bottom of the page to hear it run). Speedometer and odometer function, but when it's cold the speedo does make a little noise. The hydramatic does have a slightly rough shift from 2-3 (which is common for the four speed hydramatics since the 2-3 shift requires synchronization of two bands and two clutches). Other shifts (1-2, 3-4, and down shifts) are all great. For more info on the hydramatic, see this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydramatic Steering is tight, suspension is squeak free, rear-end is quiet, u-joints are in good shape, brakes are solid, and it stops straight.  In the past year, the following maintenance items have been performed:

  • New points and condenser
  • New water pump
  • New heater hoses
  • Rebuilt WCFB carburetor (Daytona parts company kit)
  • Rebuilt brake booster
  • New front brake pads (rears were fine)
  • Rebuilt wheel cylinders all the way around
  • New tires (Coker Radials)
  • New correct battery

Electrical/Vacuum

All exterior and interior lights work as they should (including the trunk light) but the cluster dimmer is no longer functional (so the dash lights are always on the brightest setting). The horn works, but is very quiet and weak sounding. The A/C compressor kicks on as it should (thermostat also works), but the charge is low (R12) and the blower motors are VERY slow (they need to be lubricated). Wipers work, but are very slow and I would not really rely on these during the rain to clear the windshield. Radio does not function and the vacuum lines for the antenna are disconnected. Vacuum antenna is straight and goes up and down if you put a vacuum pump on it. Power seat is quiet and functions as it should. Windows go up and down quietly and quickly and both vent windows crank open and close. Heater works well with no leaks (blowers are quiet).

Exterior

Paint is ~90% original, the exception being the driver's side rear door (there is evidence of some paint work in this area). Body is very straight with only a couple very minor dents (shown in pictures) and though the paint does show its age, it still looks great and shines well. Doors fit well (see video for opening and closing) as does the hood and trunk lid. Fender skirts are tight with no rattling and there's nothing more than a few small areas of surface rust anywhere on the body or undercarriage.  There are various touch-ups on scratches and a few areas of thin paint, but really the only part that needs attention is the back of the trunk lid (paint flaking down to bare metal). The chrome and stainless trim is in good shape with the exception of the passenger side bumper end (bottom is rusted out, but it's hard to see). Car is water tight and does not leak even when using a pressure sprayer at a car wash.

Interior

Interior is 100% original and shows very well for its age.  This car was originally equipped with the clear seat covers which were removed in the early '90s. There is one small stain on the driver's side base of the front seat (size of a silver dollar) and the top seam on the driver's side front is starting to come loose (not torn, just starting to separate). Carpet is also completely original and in good shape with no tears and only minor wear.  Headliner is complete and rip free but has faded from its original light blue color. Dash pad is perfect and the door panels are all in good shape (driver's side has a small seam separation right below the handle). There is one missing door handle escutcheon (driver's side rear interior handle).

2020 Cadillac CT4-V, CT5-V revealed, less powerful than predecessors

Fri, May 31 2019

Expectations have reached stratospheric heights for the 2020 Cadillac CT4-V and 2020 Cadillac CT5-V, and for good reason: Their ATS-V and CTS-V predecessors were potent sports sedans with gobs of power and handling and braking to match. Now the new sedans have been revealed, and they're not what we expected. They each lose two cylinders compared with the other vehicles, and on paper, they don't look as capable. But we do have hope that these won't be the end-all, be-all performance Cadillacs. First, let's look at the cars. The CT4-V will be the base of the V brand, and it's our first look at the small luxury sedan. It has a roofline and window treatment more like past Cadillacs, eschewing the C-pillar garnish of the CT5. It also naturally gets dark trim and headlights, a unique spoiler and quad tailpipes to distinguish it as a V. Under the hood is a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder that is based on the engine in the new Chevy Silverado. It makes 320 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, a far cry from the ATS-V's 464 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. Cadillac CT4-V View 12 Photos Power goes through a 10-speed automatic transmission only. Both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are available. It gets a mechanical limited-slip differential whereas the ATS-V had an electronically controlled limited-slip differential a la Camaro ZL1. The brakes have four-piston calipers at each corner versus six-piston front units and four-piston rear units on the ATS-V, and the rotors are smaller. Magnetic Ride Control remains standard on the rear-drive version, but the all-wheel-driver version sticks with conventional shocks. The new CT4-V is about 200 pounds lighter than the ATS-V, though, and it has 50/50 weight distribution. Additionally, both the CT4-V and the CT5-V have Super Cruise available as an option. Moving on to the CT5-V, it looks like a regular CT5 but with dark trim and lights, quad tailpipes and a unique rear diffuser. Instead of the CTS-V's 640-horsepower supercharged V8, the CT5-V uses a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 making 355 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. Changes made to the 3.0 for the CT5-V include a new intake system and new exhaust, and it revs higher too. Like the CT4-V, it comes with a 10-speed automatic and either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. It does get the electronically controlled limited-slip differential.

Cadillac's striking Escala concept is reportedly headed for production

Mon, Mar 19 2018

Cadillac is reportedly planning a new flagship four-door, and it won't be based on its alphanumeric naming system a la the CT6. It'll be the Escala, the stunning concept fastback it revealed in 2016 in Pebble Beach. The news comes via Autoline, which cites AutoForecast Solutions. The Escala is said to be planned for production starting in December 2021 at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck plant, which currently builds the CT6, Buick LaCrosse and Chevrolet Volt and Impala. That suggests the Escala, which was branded as a four-door coupe, will likely keep that layout. It'll also be built on the CT6 platform. Cadillac has been talking about fitting a flagship sedan above the CT6 for years, and the Escala's design language has been influencing bits of other Cadillac models, from the refresh of the CT6 to the broad grille shape on the new XT4 crossover, which debuts at the New York Auto Show next week. The concept Escala featured a wide, muscular stance and a minimalist, white mid-century modern interior aesthetic, with tail lamps that evoke waterfowl in flight. Interestingly, it came equipped with a 4.2-liter twin-turbo V8 with cylinder deactivation, which Cadillac President Johan De Nysschen said at the time was "absolutely worthy of a car of this caliber." But with such a long horizon before production, there's obviously lots of time to develop a more pragmatic production model and cue ravenous speculation. Or, for that matter, to decide to rename it something like the CT8. Cadillac ATS to go racing in 2015 as CTS.V.R replacement

Thu, 21 Aug 2014

Cadillac has been racking up victories with the CTS.V.R in Pirelli World Challenge racing for two model generations now, including recent GT class championships in 2012 and 2013. However, even winning racers eventually have to retire, and it looks like the CTS may be taking a bow at the end of the season. In its place, Caddy is reportedly working on a new racecar based on the ATS Coupe, and it might even get to compete internationally.
According to Racer, Pratt & Miller Engineering is leading the development and is already lapping the ATS racecar in Michigan for testing. It reportedly drops the CTS' V8 in favor of a twin-turbocharged V6 powering the rear wheels. Since this is the same team behind the hugely successful Corvette Racing program and the current CTS.V.R, the latest car appears to be in good hands.
The new model would also adhere to GT3 rules, according to Racer, and that might signal a big change for Cadillac's motorsports program. It means that the ATS could be sold to teams in the numerous series around the world that accept these vehicles. That would broaden the luxury coupe's exposure and put it up against GT3 racecars from premium brands, like Bentley, Porsche and McLaren. If it wins, the change could be a marketing bonanza for the brand.
