This 1991 Cadillac Fleetwood Sedan is a stunning example of automotive luxury.  Not only does it feature a vinyl roof, leather interior and authentic, original Cadillac aluminum alloy wheels, it has the largest interior space of any American-built passenger vehicle in 1991, with rear legroom greater than that of the Fleetwood Brougham of that year and mildly suggestive of a limousine.  Luxury is about space, but also about comfort: the tuck-and-roll leather upholstery and seat  construction, combined with power adjustments up front add up to what is arguably the most comfortable seating available in that year of American automobile. Luxury is about a power sunroof and climate control and this Fleetwood has both. If luxury is about quiet and sure power, the 4.9 delivers it in spades, taking you along the highway quietly with excellent passing power when needed.  Luxury is also about the little things too, such as the gold package, leather-wrapped steering wheel, tilt-steering, cruise control, front-and-rear reading lights and armrests, the unique Cadillac wreath emblem stitched into the backs of each seat, and the nine-piece genuine solid American black walnut wood trim. This last feature is surprising, as we have come to expect plastic masquerading as wood, even in Cadillacs.  Luxury is also about color and white on white is breathtaking, not to mention rare.

The Fleetwood is sitting on Custom Built Radial VII's from Vogue Tyre.  They are marked M+S Wide Trac Touring.  Tire size is P205/70/R15.  They are four ply: 2 polyester cord and 2 steel cord.  From Coker Tires, these high-quality tires add to the prestigious look of the vehicle and the degree of comfort. Purchased new in August 2013, the whitewall tires have 11/32" tread on the rear  and just over 10/32" tread on the front.  It is generally agreed that bigger cars can be more comfortable for a host of reasons, but two stand out: weight and wheelbase.  A wheel base of 113.8 inches and a weight of  3459 lbs (just under 1 3/4 tons before fuel), combined with excellent suspension and ergonomics ensures a comfortable ride.

The Fleetwood's 4.9L motor runs on Premium unleaded fuel. The Owner's Manual indicates that the motor produces 200 bhp at 4100rpm and 275 lbs. ft.of torque  at 3000 rpm. Prospective buyers may know that this model of Fleetwood was previously powered by a 4.5L motor; I test drove a 1989 equipped with this motor and found it to be somewhat under-powered. Highway fuel economy is in the order of 25 miles per U.S. gallon (or 30 miles for the larger Canadian gallon)

Vehicle history is important. This Fleetwood was never winter driven, never involved in an accident and never used commercially or for towing. It is rust-free. The previous owner bought the vehicle from the dealership.  He asserts that it was never smoked in nor has it been since I acquired it in 2013.  Originally, it was purchased by the dealer himself for his wife but she did like it. So, it was the property of the second owner from 1992 to 2013 and rarely driven after the first few years of ownership due to his poor health, the condition of his back making it painful to enter the vehicle. This explains the low mileage. He mentioned that the seating was better than his Escalade and that he'd gladly switch the front seats were that possible.  The vehicle was garage stored all its life and rarely exposed to the sun or rain. The fine condition of the paint bears this out, as does the vinyl roof, glistening chrome and stainless brightwork. The rear seats were hardly ever sat in and show virtually no wear.

Prior to purchase, I had the vehicle inspected by a trusted, licensed mechanic.  I asked that all systems be examined and that the vehicle's mechanicals  be brought up to perfect conditon, with no expense spared. To my knowledge, nothing mechanical is required.  Should he or she choose, the prospective buyer could simply drive it home, whether that be a few hundred or a few thousand miles.  I should add that the vehicle passed the New York State vehicle inspection on July 1, 2014.  That being said, the vehicle is sold as is, without any warranty, either explicit or implicit.

This Fleetwood has a few minor shortcomings that do not detract from it's overall look and performance. The white leather interior, while not torn anywhere, has a faded blue stain on the back of the driver's side seat, apparently caused some years ago by the bleeding of the dye from blue denim shirt of the previous owner(see photo). The cream-colored roof lining is a bit wavy on the two front posts (see photo).  The AM/FM radio and cassette player is not working. The driver's side multi-door electric lock only works to open but not close the four doors. All the other door locks work properly. There is a scuff on the white rubber bumper guard and dint in the chrome (see photo); it is about 3" by 1/2". The repair makes it hardly visible, except on close-range inspection. Finally, there are a few very small stone chips unable to be captured with my digital camera, even in close-up mode.

While not a mechanical defect, it should be noted in the interest of full disclosure that the automatic air-ride suspension, although it was working fine, has been converted to a regular suspension.  This can be changed back by the new owner if desired. The service suspension light was not disconnected and could be by the new owner's mechanic, should he or she not wish to convert the suspension back to the original set up.

The 1991 Cadillac brochure lists a full page of many standard features for the Fleetwood.  A few of these are::

- digital instrument cluster

- rear-wheel fender skirts

- full-padded roof

- front cornering lamps

- anti-lock brake system

- stainless steel exhaust system from manifold back

- automatic door and trunk locks

- automatic dimming inside rear-view mirror

- illuminated, variable intensity visor mirrors (driver, passenger)

- extendable dual sun visors

- electronic climate control

- rear package shelf storage

- fuel data centre

- illuminated entry system

- twilight sentinel

- rear-seat reading lamps

- power luggage compartment release and pull-down

- tilt steering wheel with leather-trimmed rim

I have identified the following options on the vehicle (there may be others):

- seating areas, leather

- express-open Astroroof

- power recliner driver and passenger front

- 23K Gold-finish ornamentation

Included in this sale is a package of unused gold-plated emblems (N.I.B.), the 1991 dealer brochure, the owner's manual, two sets of Cadillac gold-plated original keys and two FOBS (see pictures), the original front, rear and trunk mats with the Cadillac emblem.

To sum up, this is a near-perfect premium vehicle being sold to make way for a cabin cruiser.

Cadillac is doing a 'second installment' of the CT6-V for $92,790

Sun, Mar 17 2019

After being all but certain the Cadillac CT6 would begin pushing American daisies June 1, the brand said "the CT6 was never meant to be fully on the chopping block." The same day we got that news, Cadillac began taking pre-orders for the CT6-V. Limited to 275 units and costing $88,790 after destination, orders came in so quickly that order books closed only hours later. Turns out the phrase "275 pre-order slots" was another slight miscommunication. Cadillac has announced continued production of the CT6-V, this time costing $92,790. In February, Cadillac Society confirmed with the automaker that the 275 figure only applied to pre-orders. It isn't clear how many CT6-Vs will be built in what the brand calls the "second installment," but it is clear that buyers who didn't get in early will pay more. Cars Direct was privy to a letter sent to dealers that said pre-order buyers "were rewarded with a special introductory offer by quickly raising their hand." Those slow on the draw have hopefully used the extra time to fish another $4,000 from their pockets. The elevated price buys the same car that was $88,790 two months ago - nothing has changed but the bottom line. The new MSRP puts more distance between the hot CT6-V and the $89,290 CTS-V. Conversely, the CT6-V with a Blackwing V8 beating 550 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque is now just $4,000 less than the coming Platinum V8 trim, which costs $96,790. That Platinum version gets a detuned Blacking putting out 500 hp and 553 lb-ft. The vague phrase "second installment" phrase makes us think Cadillac's not committing to a number so it can cap production at will depending on how this more expensive go-round fares. Still, it's good news for anyone who wanted the sedan new and didn't hit the buzzer quickly enough in January. As if all that weren't surprising enough, GM Authority reported that there's a second-gen CT6 in development. The outlet's sources say the new sedan will move to GM's VSS-R platform, the modular architecture that will replace both the Alpha and Omega platforms. The platform initialism stands for Vehicle Set Strategy - Rear-wheel drive. The car even has a codename: 7ESL, where 7 represents the architecture, E the segment, S the sedan body style, and L the Cadillac brand. Looks like the CT6 will be nothing but surprises this year.

Meet the next president's new Beast, a giant bomb-proof limo

Fri, Jan 22 2016

We don't know who will be our president in 2017, but now we have a better idea of how that person will be transported on land. The next presidential limo, officially referred to as the presidential state car, will be another Cadillac. And a big one. You're looking at a lone spy photo of a car that will be of high interest to actual spies – not to mention Secret Service agents and lots of law-enforcement types. President Obama has been riding around in a Cadillac nicknamed The Beast for a while now. (It recently made an appearance on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.) Over the Secret Service radios, it goes by Cadillac One and Limo One. While the current car looks like a stretched Cadillac DTS sedan, it's actually kind of huge and built on a Chevrolet Kodiak medium-duty truck chassis. The same is likely to be true again, but this one will look a lot more like the latest Cadillac models. Through the camo we can see a front end reminiscent of the new CT6 large sedan. Imagine one of those scaled to about 5/3 of the production car and you've got the right idea. Fun fact: It will be the first presidential limo to feature Caddy's new wreathless crest logo on its grille. View 6 Photos As for features, we're in the dark and will remain so even after the new president-mover goes into service. The details are a legitimate matter of national security, but you can bet it's bulletproof, can withstand small bombs, and has some kind of onboard secondary air supply in case of a chemical or biomedical warfare attack. Oh, and it has that big red phone in back in the event things get really bad. The new one will no doubt carry the latest communications and safety technology. The new presidential limousine has been in the works for some time. The government sent out a request for proposals in 2013, and this model is expected to go into service sometime in 2017. Chances are it will make its debut at the inauguration of [INSERT CONTROVERSIAL NAME HERE] in about a year's time. Related Video:
