This 1981 Cadillac Brougham D'Elegance has just over 80,800 miles, and is in excellent condition.  The 1981 Cadillacs featured the rather infamous V-8-6-4 variable displacement system, which was designed to shut down 2 or 4 cylinders to save fuel.  This system has been used on several modern cars with success, but was far ahead of it's time in 1981.  While ingenious, the computers of the time were simply not sophisticated enough to work properly, and almost all of the systems were disabled by Cadillac dealers.  When disabled, the engine functions quite well as a regular 8 cylinder motor, and is a reliable car.  Between 1982 and 1985, Cadillac replaced this engine with a horrible aluminum 4.1 liter V8, and many people confuse the two.  The 4.1 was plagued with overheating problems, and few of them made it past 100,000 miles.  Conversely, the 6 liter V-8-6-4 was actually a tried and true variant of the 500/472 family of Cadillac big blocks, and was a very good engine once the variable displacement was disconnected.  At 368 cubic inches, it was the last of the true Cadillac big blocks, and featured a reliable throttle body fuel injection system. I have owned this car for the last two years, and have done quite a bit of work to bring it to it's current state.  I purchased it from an elderly gentlemen who had stopped driving, and the car had been stored in his garage for several years.  It has been a dry Arizona desert car for most of it's life, and is rust free.  Due to the long slumber, I completely rebuilt the fuel system.  The gas tank was removed and professionally cleaned, the gas lines were flushed, and both fuel injectors were professionally rebuilt.  The fuel filter and pump were also replaced.  I changed the oil to Mobil 1 synthetic, and flushed the cooling system and replaced the radiator.  The Cadillac received a full tune up, with new plugs, cap, and rotor.  The brake booster was replaced, along with the valve cover gaskets, rear shocks, and all rubber vacuum lines.  The main computer (ECM) was replaced, along with the throttle position sensor and EGR valve.  The AC system was tested and re-charged, and has worked for the past two years without additional service.  It currently blows very cold.  The digital read outs all work well, and the check engine light is functional and off.  All four tires were replaced with Hankook radials lass than 500 miles ago, and the battery is two years old. The exterior paint is about 70% original.  It looks to have had a minor repair on the right rear quarter, and the top of the trunk lid was professionally re-sprayed at one time due to fading.  The original vinyl top is still in excellent condition, with no rips or holes.  All of the filler panels are starting to come apart, but reproductions are easy to find and install.  The body does have numerous dings and scratches, but is still very presentable. The interior is in excellent condition, with nearly perfect leather seats, door panels, and carpeting.  The headliner looks to have been replaced at some point, but the rear sail panels will still need to be re-done.  The dash is very nice, but does have two small cracks.  The driver's window will only go down about four inches, and will need servicing.  The other windows appear to function well.  Power locks and trunk pull-down both work well. Steering wheel is excellent.  Radio does not work, nor does the power antenna.  Wipers, turn signals, and lights all work fine. I have owned four Cadillac Broughams, and currently use a 92 D'Elegance as my daily driver.  I have found them to be excellent, reliable cars.  This is a great example of the last "big block" Brougham, and it looks quite impressive in metallic gold.  It also has the real Appliance wire wheels, which really take it over the top.  I am a member of the CLC, and an avid collector of vintage Cadillacs and Buicks.  I have sold a number of vintage cars on ebay- please check my 100% positive feedback and bid with confidence.  Questions?  Feel free to message me or call my personal cell.  My name is Alex, and my number is 520-465-2539.  The car is garaged at my house, and is available for inspections and test drives during the auction period.  I live in sunny Tucson, Arizona, just five miles from Interstate 10.  International bidders welcome.   This car is offered at no reserve, so bid to win!

2024 Porsche Panamera; Rivian's surprise; Cadillac electrifies V | Autoblog Podcast #823

Fri, Mar 15 2024

In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Associate Editor Byron Hurd. They start off discussing a couple of vehicles they've both driven — the 2024 Ford Maverick Tremor and the 2024 Volvo C40 Recharge 2WD. From there, they pivot to Byron's first drive of the 2024 Porsche Panamera, and then from there it's on to more electrified luxury in the form of the new Cadillac Lyriq. After that, it's on to news. Rivian made a big splash last week. Not to be upstaged, Cadillac decided to get in on the action by teasing an electric V model, the Opulent Velocity Concept. After that, it's time for a future classic; this week, it's the Dodge Magnum. They end the episode by spending listener Isaiah's money on some used stick-shift transportation.  Send us your questions for the Mailbag and Spend My Money at: Podcast@Autoblog.com. Cadillac introducing V2V communications on 2017 CTS sedans

Thu, Mar 9 2017

While Audi has introduced vehicle-to-infrastructure technology in select cars in select cities, Cadillac is focusing on vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications, and it all starts with the CTS sedan. Starting this month, the company will be adding V2V equipment to 2017 models. The feature will be standard on cars in the US and Canada. These V2V devices will allow these new Cadillacs to communicate with each other up to 980 feet away. The cars will be able to transmit and receive information on speed, direction, and location. An example of how this data can be used is in detecting a car coming up a side street that could pose a possible collision risk. The cars will also be able to transmit data about brake use, hazard lights, and low traction situations for advance warning of hazards. The warnings can be displayed on the instrument panel and heads-up display. Currently, the system only communicates with other CTS sedans equipped with the technology. According to Chris Bonelli at Cadillac part of the reason is that the CTS will be the only car with the equipment on US roads at the moment, but it also isn't currently set to communicate with other cars if they were to be offered right away. However, he said that the company is absolutely willing to work with other companies to make the system compatible if or when other cars are offered with the technology. This V2V system also doesn't send data to any sort of network, instead only communicating with nearby cars. For the time being, this precludes the possibility of receiving road condition information from cars that are farther away. But as Cadillac points out, it should work under any conditions with no delay since it isn't dependent on information from a network. As far as security is concerned, Bonelli told us that the Cadillac system does have firewalls and other security measures to keep it protected from interference. He also said the cars don't store any data they receive. In addition, none of the data could be used to identify a particular person. The cars use a radio frequency set aside by the government for this use. The introduction of this technology also puts Cadillac well ahead of proposed legislation by the Department of Transportation. The organization wants this type of short-range V2V communications equipment to be a standard feature by 2023, believing the technology could prevent many injuries and deaths due to crashes. These are the fastest-selling new cars of 2024

Thu, Apr 25 2024

Automakers finally appear to be back on their feet after a few years of severe instability, but that hasn’t helped all of them in the sales department. iSeeCars recently released its study on the fastest- and slowest-selling new vehicles and found that some companies are moving vehicles off dealersÂ’ lots at more than twice the pace of others. Toyota was the fastest-selling new car brand between October 2023 and March 2024, moving vehicles in an average of 39.6 days. Surprisingly, Alfa Romeo came second, averaging 41.8 days on the market. Last year, we saw a list of the fastest-selling individual nameplates overall, as opposed to this study that's ranked by brand. Fastest-selling new cars of 2024 Toyota: 39.6 days on the market Alfa Romeo: 41.8 Cadillac: 43.4 Honda: 44.2 Jaguar: 44.4 Kia: 47 Hyundai: 47.1 Subaru: 49 BMW: 49.1 Mazda: 53.1 The brands moving inventory the fastest show a strong value and desirability for buyers. iSeeCars executive analyst Karl Brauer noted, “Fast-selling brands like Toyota and Honda represent mainstream consumers seeking maximum value for their new-car dollar. Conversely, high-ranking luxury, low-volume brands like Alfa Romeo, Cadillac, and Jaguar reflect both their limited supply as well as high demand from affluent buyers willing to snap these models up shortly after they arrive on dealer lots.” Of course, there is no light without darkness, and on the other side of the list are a handful of brands struggling to move inventory. Lincoln was the slowest-selling new car company, with an average of 82.6 days to sell. Infiniti was close behind at 79.8 days, and Buick took an average of 79 days to move units. iSeeCars noted that new EVs take much longer to sell than their hybrid counterparts, at an average of 70.6 days on the market in March 2024, compared to just 49.5 for hybrids. Some of the fast-selling new brands also made the used car list. Used Hondas sold the fastest, only sitting on dealersÂ’ lots for an average of 26.1 days. LexusÂ’ used cars sat for 26.3 days, and Toyota moved its used inventory in an average of 27.4 days. By the Numbers Green Alfa Romeo Cadillac Toyota Car Buying
