For all the Ghostbuster fans out there, I reluctantly have to sell my work-in-progress in order to help out with some other finances that have arisen lately.  I have been working since December 2011 on restoring this 1967 Cadillac Superior Hearse and converting it into a replica of the 1959 Cadillac used in the original 1985 "Ghostbusters" movie.  We've done quite a lot to this to get it to this point and, although there are a few things here and there on it that may need added or fixed, we've used it in a ton of appearances out here in the Greater Pittsburgh area over the last year and a half.  I've listed all the parts and all the work we've done on it since I picked it up below.  There are a handful of pictures here on Ebay of what it looks like, but tons more on our Facebook page for the car.   Please feel free to go look at all the photos, videos, and effort we put into the car.  I would really like someone to pick this up that can finish the job I started.

The car is a 1967 that I purchased in 2011 in Ohio.  It has about 57,000 miles on the odometer.  The previous owner had an issue when he purchased it and his title mileage was entered as 65,000 miles rather than 56,000 miles.  I purchased it and put some miles on it since that time.  Currently, the instrument cluster needs fixed, as the speedometer and the odometer are not working.  The factory stereo does not work, but I purchased a new, updated one that looks original, but is AM/FM with MP3 inputs, so you can install it and play your favorite tunes or a nice Ecto-1 siren through the stereo.  We wired up the roof rack so that marine speakers could be installed and incorporated into the stereo system on the car, so that you can play your music through them...we didn't get time to finish that part ourselves, though.  Light bars work and are wired up to a light box on the floor.  Roof rack is mounted to the roof, although the sniffer tower and other taller items in there are bolted down and can be removed for low clearance areas...we had a few malls and garages we needed to enter that limited the height to about 7 feet, so we tried to build it with that in mind.

** Also included is a CD-ROM of all the shop manuals for the 1967 Cadillac, so you can search and print any pages for easy reference if you need to do any maintenance to the vehicle yourself.

** There are also a handful of extras included with the car to help finish the job...roof siren, proton pack, rack, various hoses, pvc board....everything extra I had to work on the car is going with it.

** The roofrack is made from 1 inch aluminum rather than steel...much lighter and will not rust.  The rack's box is not wood, it is pvc board, so it will not rot away or need maintainence.

When I first picked it up, we needed to replace a few things, and in the course of that last year, we replaced a few more things.  Here is a list of all the parts we replaced on the car so far:

 - New tires, brakes, lines and brake cylinders, including master cylinder in early 2012.
 - New fuel pump in March 2012
 - Engine was overhauled in August 2012.  Head gasket blew, so it was checked and rebuilt.  New thermostat installed.  Oil pressure gauge installed at that time, also.
 - Oil pump, timing belt case all replaced in October 2012.  Fluids were all changed at the end of the year.

Interior of the vehicle isn't bad, although the front seat is dried out and could use redone.  There is a hole in the seat near the driver's side.  I purchased a benchseat cover until I could get the interior redone...never made it that far.  The transmission is good and shifts well.  The linkage may need looked at since the shifter does not shift to 2 or 1 on the column.  P, D, N, and R work fine.

Friends of mine helped sand the car down and restore the exterior.  We had the finishing touches done professionally.  There were a few spots around the back of the tires where there was heavier rust and small parts of the fenders or skirts needed replaced.  These were repaired and the car got a nice paintjob.  All lettering is vinyl and was matched as best as possible to the original Ecto-1.

Hopefully, there is someone out there who can see that this car is in good shape and needs a little more effort put into it to finish it.  I had hoped that someone locally might pick it up so that we might still see it around Pittsburgh at events.  I've taken it to comic book and toy conventions, fund raisers, charity events, parades, car shows, and had it on display at the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh.  I really hate to part with this car, but personal issues have popped up and I need to take care of those before I can get to the time, effort, and money to support a hobby like this again.

I will be happy to answer any questions you have as best as I can and as quickly as I can.  Post them here, or email at pghecto@gmail.com and I will get back to you as quickly as possible.  No reserve on the car.  Buyer is responsible for shipping costs, insurance, title fees, and any other incidentals.  Car is located in Greensburg, PA, which is about an hour east of Pittsburgh.  I can work with you regarding shipping, just get with me and we can work out logistics if needed.  Payment is cash in person, or certified check.  I can work with buyer on payment, but I expect that payment arrangements will be made within 7 days of the conclusion of the auction.

Cadillac partners with Saks Fifth Avenue for limited-edition ELR

Fri, 08 Nov 2013

There's no softening the blow with this one - this is the limited edition 2014 Cadillac ELR Saks Fifth Avenue Edition, and it costs $89,500, including $995 for destination. The special model, limited to just 100 units, is part of a holiday season collaboration between Cadillac and luxury retailer Saks Fifth Avenue. In addition to the ELR, there will also be a special "Frozen Escalade" window display at the Saks Fifth Avenue flagship store near Rockefeller Center in New York City, which will feature the 2015 Escalade with functioning LED running lamps that, as the automaker says, "appear embedded and breaking through a wall of ice."
But back to that ELR. This Saks edition plug-in hybrid coupe commands a surcharge of $14,500 over the $75,000 base model that over 85-percent of Autoblog readers polled already feel is overpriced. For that extra coin, you get an ELR wearing exclusive (to this car) White Diamond paint matched with either a jet black or light cashmere interior. Buyers will also receive an upgraded 240-volt charging station complete with professional installation, and the cars come with Cadillac's ELR Concierge service - representatives "trained in white-glove customer care" that serve as an additional point of contact beyond the dealership when it comes to topics like like battery care, charging, service scheduling and news updates.
Folks who order the Saks Fifth Avenue ELR are expected to receive their cars in March of next year. Price aside, we're sure it'll look great parked alongside the Neiman Marcus Aston Martin Vanquish Volante in owners' garages. Scroll down for Cadillac's official press blast.

Cadillac ELR getting massive discounts, some up to $14,000

Mon, Jul 14 2014

Well, that didn't go as planned. General Motors had marketed the Cadillac ELR extended-range plug-in as a premium version of the Chevrolet Volt with some Caddy refinements. Now, it looks like that premium, at least from a price standpoint, is shrinking. Shoppers in a number of states are reporting that GM and its dealers are discounting the ELR in order to move more off dealer lots. The issue is that few people are biting at the official price tag of about $76,000, so GM has started offering as much as $8,000 worth of dealer and customer incentives, Transport Evolved reports. More recently, dealers in states such as Florida, Texas and Maryland are offering discounts in the $12,000-to-$14,000 range, and that's before any federal and state plug-in incentives kick in. It's not difficult to guess why. Through the first half of the year, GM sold fewer than 400 ELRs. Last month, Caddy moved just 97 units, or about as many as Tesla sells of its Model S in a day. Perpahs recent spy shots that reveal a test ELR that appears to up the sportiness quotient, with touches such as larger wheels and brakes, will also help sales. Check out Autoblog's "First Drive" impressions of the ELR here.

Why does this Cadillac fob seem to be for a mid-engine roadster?

Thu, Nov 8 2018

Is GM bringing back its Caddied-up Corvette sibling, the Cadillac XLR — only this time based on the mid-engine Corvette? That's the question posed by photos of a wedge-shaped Cadillac key fob someone provided to The Drive. The buttons show a trunk — and also a frunk. So, mid-engine, unless the fob goes with an EV that has its motors and other electrical bits scattered to the wheels and elsewhere. Also, there's a button to operate a droptop. And the car profile on the fob is Corvette-like. All of which makes for some pretty great speculation. Except that Cadillac's way back from the failures of its sedan-centric lineup was thought to be through SUVs such as the new XT4 compact crossover, the XT5 and the somewhere-in-testing three-row XT6. Plus, the XLR, which was produced between 2003 and 2009, hit its sales peak in 2005 of just 3,730 cars, or about one-tenth the sales volume of the Corvette. So it's hard to imagine there's a vast untapped market out there for the luxury roadster — plus the XLR's demographic of well-to-do grandpas is dying off, or at least thinks it is. So a resurrected XLR would seem to be an unlikely savior. A lot's happening with GM's luxury brand — the debut of the XT4 at long last, a new boss, a thinning of the sedan herd but expansion of the V's, a backtrack to Detroit after its New York sojourn, the cash-cow Escalade under direct assault from the fine new Lincoln Navigator, and the impressive performance of its Super Cruise technology. But an XLR? So what is this fob's story? The Drive speculates it's a universal test fob and the buttons don't necessarily mean a thing, or that somebody stuck a Caddy emblem on it just to yank our chains. Who's to say. What would you like it to mean? Related Video:
